Basic Accounting Research Project

PART A – GENERAL INFORMATION

1. Grouping For Coursework

The minimum student per group is 4 with maximum 6 members per group (from the same

tutorial class and program). Any grouping more or less than the range stated shall be

penalized by deduction of 0.5 mark (maximum) for inability to follow basic guide

stated.

2. Plagiarism Statement Declaration All students MUST sign on the plagiarism statement (refer Part D – PLAGIARISM) and

attach the original signed copy with the coursework. This must be attached on the first

page of the coursework.

Kindly be reminded that only ORIGINAL copy signed by the member is acceptable.

3. Harvard Referencing Method

Harvard referencing shall be adopted for this coursework and you can get the copy of

such format from the CEL in ASSIGNMENT folder. Kindly read, understand and comply

to the requirement of such standard. Please consult your respective tutors for guidance on

referencing requirements if in doubt.

However, if you are still in doubt after the tutor’s explanation, kindly write to your

respective lecturers/tutors for further clarification. When writing your email it is

compulsory for you to state clearly the following information:

4. Deadline for Submission

31 May 2012 (Thursday) no later than 1pm – Malaysian time. However, if the tutor

wants to expedite the deadline, prior notice and agreement with the students shall be

given by the respective tutors. The agreed changed date MUST be in written form and a

copy of such approval by the respective tutors MUST be made known to the course

leader.

For late submission of coursework a penalty of 1 mark shall be deducted if the

coursework not received by tutor on 4 June 2012 and an additional 1 mark shall be

deducted if the group fail to submit by 5 June 2012. Coursework after the 6 calendar days

of the deadline (ie. after 6 June 2012) shall not be accepted and students (ie. the group)

shall deemed to have not submitted the first coursework and have secured ZERO marks.

Failing all combined coursework (1 & 2 ie. not securing at least 50%) means having to

REPEAT ABFA1013 – Introduction to Accounting on the earliest semester that offers

this subject.

The total coursework (CW) for this subject is 40 marks and students MUST secure

minimum of 50% (ie. 20 marks) from the combined coursework 1 and 2 in order to be

eligible for the examination. Students who DO NOT secure the minimum of 50% from

the 40 overall coursework marks MUST sign on Form G: Verification Of Coursework

Marks Below:- Tutors are to comply with work flow sent on 26 April 2012.













7. Coursework Information

To clear this paper you MUST get a total of 50% from the 100 marks of 2 possible

coursework as follows:

Coursework 1 (40%) – Group assignment (4 to 6 pages report for Introduction, Content

and Conclusion and excludes cover, table of content, appendix, reference, plagiarism

declaration report, safe assign report);

Coursework 2 (60%) –individually tested question comprising of the following format:

10 multiple choice questions (20%)

5 match the correct answers (10%)

2 written questions (30%)

duration is 90 minutes during tutorial class on WEEK 9 (25 to 29 June 2012)

It is the responsibility of the students to sign on the form if you have failed all

coursework. Kindly ensure that you sign on the FORM G: VERIFICATION OF

COURSEWORK MARKS BELOW THRESHOLD. Failure to sign by the student

shall mean student choose not to comply with the requirement clearly stated herein and

students accept the final marks written by the respective tutors.

9. Syllabus For Coursework Examination

1st coursework (group) shall be uploaded into the CEL and made available to the

students on Week 1 and for submission is Week 5 (31 May 2012 before 1pm Malaysia

time). Late submission shall be subject to penalty and last deadline is 5 June 2012 – 1pm

Malaysian time which is subject to penalty stated on item 4 “Deadline for Submission”.

ZERO marks shall apply if you fail to submit by 5 June 2012.

were tested, group coursework fulfills team building requirement and if your team fails to

contribute you can report to your tutor.

If you have any complaint due to lack of cooperation by any one of your team, you may

submit your formal WRITTEN complaint with evidence of the lack of cooperation.

Create a log book for signature of attendance and indicate when your team fail to

contribute. Penalty for lack of team spirit is at the discretion of the respective tutor and

maximum mark deduction is 3 marks shall be executed at the discretion of the tutor.

2nd

coursework (individual) shall be given on Week 9 (25 to 30 June 2012) during

tutorial class for only 90 minutes. The levels in Bloom’s taxanomy shall be from levels 1

to 3 which is Knowledge, Comprehension and Application. :

7. Coursework Marks Availability

It is your duty to collect your coursework marks from your respective tutors on the date

stated:

It is also your duty as tertiary students to sign on Form K: Verification Of Coursework

Marks Below Threshold if you fail below the 50% mandated requirement for

coursework.

8. Safe Assign

Safe assign is a 3rd

party software where students are required to upload the FINAL copy

of the report in Assignment folder. A percentage will appear indicating the figure you

have plagiarized. You are required to print the first page where the percentage is indicated

as evidence of having performed safe assign.

As this is your first research coursework, NO penalty is implemented. This exercise is to

introduce students on how to use Safe Assign and shall prepare you towards higher level.

Since we have large volume of students (main and branches) checking their finalized

report and we urge you to spread your work to avoid last minute ‘traffic jam’ and not

able to use the software. If you upload your report more than once the percentage shall

increase as your original file shall be kept into the system.

9. File Naming Convention For Safe Assign

To get your file name formalized, you shall be assigned special number so that we can

track your file prior to checking from safe assign. Kindly get the assigned number from

your respective tutor. The following naming convention of your file MUST be adhered

for systematic checking and follow up at the system:

10. Guidance Before, During & After Coursework 1

As this is your first research base assignment as a year 1 semester 1 students we shall

provide complete guidance in performing such research. You can refer to Sample 1 &

Sample 2 on completing your report. Kindly be reminded that the samples serve as

GUIDANCE and are not to be copied or paraphrased. If your report were caught

plagiarized from the samples a maximum penalty of 35 marks will be deducted.

You shall also be guided by your respective tutors and they serve as a coach for your

coursework completion. Please make time to consult your respective tutors and DO NOT

leave your work till last minute to complete your first assignment.

After marks have been assigned tutors are required to explain to the students on the

marking scheme as stated in Appendix 1 (in CEL – Assignment folder). Tutors are

reminded to be objective in marking and ensure compliance to marking scheme stated.

Information.
