L: Dearly loved by our God, let us draw near with a honest heart and confess our sins to
God our Father, asking him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us
forgiveness.
G: Holy and merciful Father in heaven, I confess that I am by nature sinful and that I
have disobeyed you in my thoughts, words, and actions. I have done what is evil and
failed to do what is good. For this I deserve your punishment both now and in
eternity. But I am truly sorry for my sins, and trusting in my Savior Jesus Christ, I
pray: Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.
L: God, our heavenly Father, has been merciful to us and has given his only Son to be the
atoning sacrifice for our sins. Because of the promise of our Savior Jesus, I forgive you
all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son † and of the Holy Spirit.
G: Amen.
L: O God, the strength of all who trust in you, mercifully hear our prayers. Be gracious to
us in our weakness and give us strength to keep your commandments in all we say and
do; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the
Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
G: Amen.

Exodus 3:1-15
Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and
he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 2 There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses
saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. 3 So Moses thought, “I will go over
and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up.” 4 When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the
bush, “Moses! Moses!” And Moses said, “Here I am.” 5 “Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you
are standing is holy ground.” 6 Then he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of
Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” At this, Moses hid his face, because he
was afraid to look at God. 7 The Lord said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard
them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. 8 So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up
out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey—the
home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. 9 And now the
cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing
them. 10 So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of
Egypt.” 11 But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites
out of Egypt?” 12 And God said, “I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it
is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship
God on this mountain.” 13 Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to
them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his
name?’ Then what shall I tell them?” 14 God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM
has sent me to you.’” 15 God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers—the
God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’
“This is my name forever, the name you shall call me from generation to generation.”

1 Timothy 1:12-17
I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me
trust-worthy, appointing me to his service. 13 Even though I was once a blasphemer and
a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and
unbelief. 14 The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the
faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 15 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into
the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. 16 But for that very reason I was
shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his
immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive
eternal life. 17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and
glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Matthew 9:9-13
As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax
collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him. 10 While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and
sinners came and ate with him and his disciples. 11 When the Pharisees saw this, they
asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” 12 On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the
sick. 13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not
come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy
Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died,
and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the
dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father
almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the
forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Exodus 3, 1 Timothy 1, Matthew 9
Don’t Worry—Christ Is Working
8
L: In peace, let us pray to the Lord. For a stronger faith, that we would look to God as our
rock and salvation and seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. Lord, in
your mercy,
G: Hear our prayer.
L: O Lord, our God, you are wise and powerful, good and gracious. Let your comforting
message of salvation in Christ Jesus be proclaimed to troubled souls everywhere. You
provide workers for your kingdom. Encourage and strengthen those who serve. For the
next generation of those who would serve in your Church, use us to help them see the
greater blessings of a life of service in your kingdom. Lord, in your mercy,
G: hear our prayer.
L: We bring you our requests for the various structures of our society. Turn us from the
self-centered pursuit of happiness to the true joys of loving service to our neighbors.
Help us to notice the poor, the hungry, and the homeless all around us; and give us
wisdom to know how best to help them in their times of need. Grant employment to
those who are unemployed, so that they may use the abilities you have given them in
service to your world. Grant social workers the wisdom to guide troubled people into
the ways of peace. Lord, in your mercy,
G: hear our prayer.
L: Strengthen the families of our country. Give fathers and mothers a renewed
commitment to be good parents. Give children and young people the wisdom to regard
their parents as your representatives. Lead us to love one another as you have loved us.
Lord, in your mercy,
G: hear our prayer.
L: Hear us, Lord, as we bring you our private petitions.
Silent prayer.
L: We bring all these requests and join in the prayer Jesus taught his disciples:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
9
L: The Lord bless you and keep you.
The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you.
The Lord look on you with favor and † give you peace.
G: Amen.
