Friday, 1 December 2017 Dear Students, Staff and Families, This year there have been many opportunities for children in the school to share their talents and languages of learning. In this week’s Gospel of Matthew, the focus was on talents and sharing these gifts with others. Furthermore, within the scripture, Jesus said, ‘I say to you, whatever you did for one of the least brothers of mine, you did for me.' In our school, we are blessed with the many talents the children share every day. TRANSITION Recently we held a transition morning for our new students who will begin at Holy Family next year. For transition, the new students joined the existing Receptions to work together in a range of learning activities. What occurred was the existing children helped the new students to settle in and participate in the learning activities. It provided a great opportunity for children to develop positive relationships and to support each other in this stage of their educational journey. In addition to this, during the parent presentation a number of upper primary students confidently shared their highlights of their time at Holy Family which offered great value and insight. ADVENT As the time of Advent approaches there are a range of exciting events to look forward to within the school. Advent is a time of expectant waiting for the preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas. This Friday the school will hold their annual Holy Family Christmas Carols event in the Hall, which is a wonderful community gathering to bring people together to share in the talents of the children. In addition, on Saturday twenty students have nominated themselves to form a Holy Family choir group to showcase their singing talents in the Salisbury Christmas Pageant. This is the first time the school has been involved and the children are extremely excited to be a part of the community event. CELEBRATING OUR TALENTS This week the annual sports carnival awards ceremony took place where numerous students in the school were awarded for their contributions and talents this year. It was great to hear the teachers share stories about how the children were effective team players, who also shared their talents to coach each other in their teams. It has been pleasing to see the increased participation of the students in sporting events to represent the school this year. The feedback we have received about how the students supported each other in these events was extremely positive.

Dear Students, Staff and Families,

This year there have been many opportunities for children in the school to share their talents and languages of learning.

TRANSITIONRecently we held a transition morning for our new students who will begin at Holy Family next year.

ADVENTAs the time of Advent approaches there are a range of exciting events to look forward to within the school. This is the first

time the school has been involved and the children are extremely excited to be a part of the community event.

EXCURSIONSAs the year has progressed there have been a number of excursions taking place. Recently, we had our first ever buddy excursion for the Reception and Year 6/7 classes who went to Saint Kilda. On the excursion, the students went fishing and participated in a range of shared activities. Some students shared their stories about catching fish and working positively with their buddies.

YEAR 7 GRADUATION YEARBOOKSThe Year 6/7 teachers have introduced a new way for students to create their own yearbooks to showcase their creativity, whilst reflecting on their time at Holy Family. This year the students have completed iBooks to document their highlights and special memories at school. Each student has showcased.

Lastly, I look forward to seeing the many parents and students at end of year mass and graduation activities which will be held in the coming weeks.

God bless,

Dear parishioners,

Pieces Coming Together Like a giant Meccano set, the framework of our new parish meeting rooms has grown. Now you can see where the meeting rooms, the kitchenette, the toilets, and the storage will be. You can see the beginnings of the covered way to connect with St Augustine’s Church. Everything now has a shape. All of the metal pieces, pre-fabricated off-site, are coming together. We look forward to the days when parishioners can come together in these meeting rooms, and build a great community. We have always had great community, but the facilities from years ago needed replacing. Now our meeting rooms will be more flexible and better equipped. We will have more toilets, including one for the disabled. Our storage facilities will be better. All of this comes together for a better future. Another part of the picture is our parish finances. I am glad that with your copy of the Echo is a report from our parish treasurer, Paul Sahb. Our parish finances are well managed by our parish treasurer, our business manager, and our parish’s Finance and Administration Committee. They worked together before we began this project, to ensure that (based on previous giving through the planned giving) we could fund the debt repayment. Now I look to all parishioners to bring these pieces together in a successful financial result. I am sure that it would help our programme if you like to choose direct giving from your bank. There are inconveniences. The temporary toilets are inconvenient conveniences! We have lost some parking space. There is construction noise from time to time. I am grateful to our parish staff and office volunteers who accept these inconveniences daily. I am grateful to all parishioners who put up with temporary problems. We will all be glad when the pieces come together to a finished project! Thank you all for your care for today’s parishioners and parishioners of the future.

Fr Roderick [29 November 2017]

FOR YOUR INFORMATION

Laptops The laptops are a great tool for the students. Here are a few tips for looking after them:

• No food or drink near the laptop;• Store in a safe and dry area;• Use in a dry area (ie not near sinks or wash areas);• Do not run or walk with the laptop in the open position;• Do not run with the laptop;• Always ensure the protective cover is on and not

tampered with.

Thank you and enjoy.

Some Gentle Reminders:• School starts at 8.50am, children must be under supervision of adults at all times. Yard Duty

begins at 8.30am, if they arrive earlier they need to attend OSHC;• School finishes at 3pm if you cannot collect your child by 3.10pm, they need to go to OSHC;

• Please use the Kiss and Drop Zone and DO NOT drop off your children in the car parks or park in Disabled Zones … it is illegal;

• Please don’t walk on the driveways, use the footpaths, don’t walk in or out of the vehicle entry/exit gates.

Canteen Volunteers Needed:We urgently require some volunteers for our Canteen. If you would like to assist in the Canteen making

fresh food for the students and organising their lunches we would love to have you.You would be required to have a Catholic Police Clearance and complete the Volunteer Induction Pack

as well as the online training for Responding to Abuse and Neglect if you are not currently a registered volunteer. Please see staff in the front office to assist.

If you are interested please phone 8250 6616 and ask to speak with Jayne or Sue.
