P&CWell the last meeting for the year has come and gone, except for the Christmas BBQ at Maddingley Park.We had our first outside judge on Wednesday night with Andrew Samson from Image and Light being our judge. Andrew is a local photographer doing weddings, portraits and almost anything else to do with people as well as landscapes and real estate photography. More about Andrew can be found here:

http://www.imageandlight.com.au/

Andrew gave a brief talk on his work before getting down to the business of the judging. He had already pre-judged the EDI’s but went through them again for the benefit of the members. Then it was on to the prints. It was great to see that so many had gone to the trouble of printing their images with a total of 29 prints to be judged. The only ‘hiccup’ of the night was that we were un-able to get our display boards out as they were locked in a storeroom and the ‘key-holder’ for DNH had gone! This resulted in us being unable to display the prints to their best advantage.

The results of the Leading Lines Competition were:

Advanced EDI:First: Eric Bunn.Commended: Bronwyn Flack.

Regular EDI:First: Judy Archer.Commended: Christine Raymant and Alan Squires.

Advanced Prints:First: Eric Bunn.Highly commended: Robert Armstrong.Commended: Matt Page and Nathan Stanley.

Regular Prints:First: Jill Bell.Commended: Julie Page and Jill Bell.

Congratulations to all the winners!!

We also welcomed new member Glenn Carpenter who has just joined the Club and submitted two prints for the competition which were well received. An amazing effort on Glenn’s part as he had only a ‘few minutes’ to get them ready! We were also pleased to welcome visitor Murali Ramakrishnan. Murali has his own web page showcasing some of his photos and videos. You can catch up with his page here:

http://catphotography.biz/index.html

We hope that Murali enjoyed his evening and will come again.

What’s on in December. The Christmas BBQ will be held at Maddingley Park next Wednesday 5th Decem-ber from 6:30PM at the Rotunda near the playground. The closest entry to the Park is from Bond Street. See map below.Don’t forget....BYO everything!!!

Hope to see you there!!!

Just as a point of interest, did you know that the original Melbourne Cricket Ground fence lines the Maddingley oval!

P&CClub News

The launch of the book ‘Memory Byways’ will be held this Sunday 30 November at the Bacchus Marsh Library at 2:00PM. Club members are invited to attend as many of the photos in the book were taken by Club members. Take your camera as photos of the event would be appreciated.

Don’t forget the weekly ‘fun’ challenge on our Facebook page. Every Tuesday (or Wednesday...just to keep you on your toes!) a new and easy challenge theme is presented. Simply take a photo (or you can cheat and use something old, but this is not encouraged!!) relevant to the theme and post it on our Facebook page. There are no prizes or no judging, it is simply for fun....plus it is an excuse to take a photo, not to mention reminding you to keep your batteries charged! They are always something simple that can be found around your house so you don’t have to go anywhere really....although you can if you like. Nor do you have to buy anything. The only ‘spending’ is a bit of your time. The challenge usually closes on Sunday evenings....but you can be late.

Competition point scoring. As we are now having monthly competitions, we have started a new aggregate scoring system which commenced with the November Leading Lines competition and will run until June 2015 after which it will restart for the next 12 months. The points system works in this way:

Entry (no Award) = 1 point per entry.Commended = 3 points.Highly Commended/First = 5 points

All points will be added to arrive at a total for the end of the year (or in this case until the June 2015 competition). The title of ‘Photographer of the Year’ will be awarded to the person with the most points accrued in each class. All the points will be entered onto a spreadsheet every month which will automatically update the results. Many thanks must go to Robert Armstrong for creating the spreadsheet.Photos entered into all competitions will be judged and critiqued by either ‘In House’ or Outside judges depending on which we are having for a particular month. All the more reason to submit your images every month (Print or EDI or both)

Due to Moorabool Enviromental Group (MEGS) wishing to change the date they had the Moor Art Space at the Library booked, our month has changed from June to July for our exhibition. MEGS coincide their competition with the Rotary Art Show which is held in June. MEGS have encouraged Club members to enter their competition in June ( Matt Page won it last year). Details on what their theme is will be released by MEGS later. For our exhibition we will need a lot of photos, so please keep your prints safe. The space can accommodate approx. 80-90 photos and as we have the space for a month we will be able to change them, so we are looking at around 160-180 photos!!!! Shouldn’t be to hard for such a talented group like us!

P&CVictorian Agricultural Shows.

For anybody looking for a great fun day out, have a look at nearby country Ag Shows! Recently, Kim and I visited both Clunes and Kyneton Shows. Ok, we had a bit of an interest in both as we had entered some photos in the Photography section. Country Ag shows have such a wonderful flavour - everybody out and about enjoying the atmosphere and the fun. The exhibits in the Homecrafts section were amazing - so much talent out there.

We were entertained by the judging of the Fruitcake section - it’s a very serious business!

The cattle, sheep and goat judging were also interesting events to watch - although we did not stay long at the goat judging as Judges were milking the goats and measuring the yield. Did not want to upset their concentration by being too much of a sticky beak!

P&CThere were the normal show rides etc - including the usual Ferris wheel and other scary rides. Dodgems at the Kyneton Show, plus a very well patronised bubble on the water attraction. So much so that there were two of them available! Kids of all ages found that a lot of fun.

Clunes show had a very interesting display of vintage steam engines and we caught up with Julie Page at the display.

We were not at Kyneton to see the Beaut Ute display on the Friday evening, but they were all there on Saturday for the Clunes show. Utes of all make, models, types and varying degrees of “detailing”. We were about to head off to Kyneton in the afternoon when they started revving up for the Loudest Ute competition - it was time to depart!

P&CThe Photography Section was really amazing, some very talented photographers entered in both shows. The student’s photos at Clunes had to be seen to be be-lieved - we had better be on our toes if any of the youngsters ever move here! The Theme at Kyneton was The Farm Shed. There must be a lot of dilapidated sheds in the area as most of the sheds photographed had already started to fall down. I wonder if the idea behind the theme was to grab the images while they had a chance!

There were approx 300 photos on show at Clunes and around 420 at Kyneton. Not bad for a country Ag show.

Overall Winner and Best in Show at Kyneton was a fabulous B/W portrait.
