NEW STUDIO LOCATION FOR 2019
After an amazing year in our BEAUTIFUL studios on Hensbrook Loop, Forrestdale (the space we
had hoped would be our forever home) we are again on the move!
This decision was largely taken out of our of hands due to a long term zoning approval issue and
has been part of the reason we have held off opening up our 2019 Enrolments until now!
But as they say when life gives you lemons... make lemonade! So we are choosing to make plenty
of it and assure you our new home will be just as special for you all! (And yes the 'BUMBLE BEE
WALL' & 'RESPECT WALL' will be coming with us)!
We thank in advance the amazing volunteers who have already put their hands up to help us
deconstruct and re-build our home - you are truly amazing!

TERM 1
We choose to allocate age groups based on School years as we feel this most accurately reflects the
social development of a child which impacts on their ability to cope in a class.
We do however highlight that age groups are a guide and we reserve the right to place students in the
most appropriate class based on an individual assessment of age, skill and maturity.
If you are in doubt as to which age/level you should enrol in we always recommend enrolling in the
younger/lower level choice as it is more positive to be able to move a child up into an older or more
advanced class than to move them down (Or simply have a chat with us and we can advise).
We like to informally give our age groups these nicknames:
2 - 3 YEARS | 'TWINKLE STARS' Twinkle twinkle little star, these are the most magical years by far
KINDY/PRE-PRIMARY | 'LITTLE STARS'These little humans have so much energy and light to give on stage and in class
PRIMARY SCHOOL YEAR 1 - 3 | 'BRIGHT STARS'Exploring further the creative world of dance and performing arts, Shine bright, Brights Stars
PRIMARY SCHOOL YEAR 4 - 6 | 'ROCK STARS'Innovative, creative and captivating - Our Rock Stars are ready to unleash on the world
HIGH SCHOOL YEAR 7 - 9 | 'STELLAS'Latin for Star, Our teens truly are stars, you will be amazed at what they achieve
HIGH SCHOOL YEAR 10 + | 'SUPERNOVAS'Super Nova - An explosion of a star becoming extremely bright - Just like your talent
ADULTS | 'DIAMONDS'Whether you consider yourself a diamond ready to sparkle or a diamond in the rough, you are ALL
diamonds to us
MIXED AGE GROUPS | 'ALL STARS'When we all come together we are ALL stars

CONCERT CLASSES
The essential foundation to all dance genres, Ballet teaches musicality, grace and technique and its
disciplined practice develops bodily strength and flexibility. Ballet is the genre we recommend for all
dancers. (For 2019 we will be re-introducing the option to take Exam preparation classes and Ballet
Exams in the ATOD or RAD syllabus as an 'EXTENDED TRAINING' option).
WHAT TO WEAR: Ballet Shoes, Leotard, Ballet Tights and optionally Ballet Skirt or Bike Shorts. Hair
neatly secured preferably in a bun.
BALLET
Tap is an exciting and fun genre of dance (and a great workout too!). From the classic era of Fred
Astaire to the modern tap styles of the 'Tap Dogs' and alike, tap develops co-ordination and musicality,
a highly recommended style for dancers interested in pursuing Musical Theatre. Our Tap classes will
open up your world to not only learning how to move those feet but also gain an understanding of
terminology and technique.
WHAT TO WEAR: Tap Shoes, Leotard, Bike Shorts/Leggings, Hair neatly secured.
TAP
All of our Acrobatic classes are overseen by studio Director Fran who was trained as a competitive
gymnast and coach. Based on her experience, Fran has selected to follow the accredited 'Acrobatic
Arts' syllabus Primary - Pre Professional and 'AcroDance PreSchool' (Term Program for ages 2 - 5
Years). All of our classes include strength, conditioning, flexibility, tumbling, group balances and tricks.
We ensure a safe progression in skill development to keep bodies safe now and to prevent injury in the
future.
WHAT TO WEAR: Acro Shoes or Clean Bare Feet, Leotard, Bike Shorts/Leggings, Hair neatly
secured.
ACROBATICS
Love to sing? Love to dance? Love to act? - Musical Theatre is for you! Our classes incorporate vocal
training for singing and spoken dialogue, scripted and improvised acting exercises, theatrical dance
styles and history of musicals. The vibrant team dynamic developed in a Musical Theatre class and the
exciting stage performances make this class a favourite at our studio.
WHAT TO WEAR: Jazz Shoes or Sneakers, T-Shirt, Shorts/Leggings, Hair neatly secured
MUSICAL THEATRE
Classes work throughout the year on technique and performance routinesfor our end of year concert. Concert classes have a costume fee
incorporated into our standard fees.
W H A T ' S O N O F F E R ?
CONCERT CLASSES
'Hip Hop' is a very broad term used to describe many style of dance within Hip Hop culture - At
Explosive Dance our style lends towards street/urban influences and dancers not only learn great
choreography, but are challenged to connect their dancing with their performance via exploring texture
and intention in movement and expression and attitude on stage. We are dedicated to ensuring all our
music and costuming choices in this genre (and all genres) are age appropriate.
WHAT TO WEAR: Sneakers, Relaxed T-shirt with Bike Shorts, Leggings or Track Pants. Hair neatly
secure however accessories such as hats and bandannas are permitted.
HIP HOP/URBAN
Contemporary dance is ever evolving and therefore is the most limitless genre for dancers and
choreographers alike. It is highly expressive, physical and most often involves a level of story telling
within the movement. With its base in classical technique and physical theatre, contemporary dancers
are challenged to train in technique and control whilst also learning to release and explore new
movement patterns and shapes. Contemporary classes will also include partner work, movement on
the floor and improvisation/choreographic tasks.
WHAT TO WEAR: Clean Bare Feet, Foot Undies or Socks, Leotard, Bike shorts/Leggings. Hair neatly
secured (some floor work may require long sleeves or long pants/knee pads for dancer comfort)
CONTEMPORARY
Cheerleading is a fun yet challenging sport which involves tumbling, dance, pom and stunts. At
Explosive we offer an open age entry level recreational class delivered with plenty of cheer spirit! Bring
your determination, team spirit and muscles!
WHAT TO WEAR: Sport Sneakers, Leotard, Bike Shorts/Leggings. Hair must be neatly secured.
CHEER (Recreational)
Our younger dancers will focus on traditional jazz technique as well as theatrical styles, whilst our
senior dancers will also learn choreography in a 'Commercial Jazz' style which fuses traditional jazz
movement with a range of dance influences including lyrical, contemporary, hip hop and dance hall.
WHAT TO WEAR: Jazz Shoes or Dance Sneaker, Leotard, Bike Shorts/Leggings. Hair neatly secured.

TERM PROGRAMS
Created and delivered by Brendan Burns, 'Breakin Traditions' is a powerful
program designed to engage with young people of all walks of life to develop
not only their Break Dance skills and technique but confidence, discipline and
respect self and each other.
The program is structured with a series of skill set levels which students work
towards achieving at their own pace. Along the way students are introduced to
the history and culture of Break Dance and what it means to be a 'BBOY or
BGIRL'. Attainment of each level is marked by a 'Graduation Certificate' and
level T-Shirt. Explosive Dance offers this class as a 'Term Program' with the
option for students to take part in the 'BREAKIN TRADITIONS GRADING
DAYS' which Brendan runs independently as a collaborative event with other
studios offering this program. A studio invite will also be offered for those who
wish to take part in the concert performing a specially choreographed piece
rehearsed separate to usual classes.
In 2018 our crew performed at 'Dance Day' (Forrest Chase) and Relay for Life
Perth (HBF Stadium).
WHAT TO WEAR: Sneakers, T-Shirt, Long pants (Shorts are ok but pants
protect the knees!), Accessories like Hats are permitted.
BREAKIN TRADITIONS

kindness and a focus on building each model's confidence via connection with
knowing their own unique style. The weekly lessons cover:
Runway Training | Photographic Posing | Styling Concepts | Grooming, Skin
Care and Make-Up | Audition/Casting Techniques | Professional Etiquette |

opportunities. The Term Fee includes your photo shoot hair, make-up and

wardrobe.

TERM PROGRAMS
Created by Acrobatic Arts - AcroDance PreSchool is a structured introductory acrobatics program which
safely develops the strength, flexibility and co-ordination of little bodies whilst having plenty of fun with
sing along music, dance basics and class props.
The underlying aim of AcroDance PreSchool is to ensure integrity of skill progression and prevent injury
as acrobats grow by not rushing to advanced skills until acrobats are suitability ready physically and
mentally. (Which is important to keep in mind when we all can get excited by little ones throwing for
crazy flips at very young ages - they can do it but it is not necessarily in their best interest).
We celebrate the end of each term with a parent viewing session and certificate presentation.
Suitable for ages 2 - 5 years.
WHAT TO WEAR: Acro Shoes or Clean Bare Feet, Leotard, Bike Shorts/Leggings. Hair secured neatly.
(Please note Ballet skirts are not suitable in this class).
ACRODANCE PRESCHOOL
We are excited to introduce 'Parkour' at Explosive Dance & Theatre Co.
Parkour developed from military obstacle course training but is now commonly recognised as an
activity of moving rapidly through an area, typically in an urban environment, negotiating obstacles by
running, jumping, and climbing.
Our Parkour class will be taught by trained Instructor Bryce Polmear who will guide students through
conditioning and skill based drills to develop confidence and capability in this style of movement.
This class is suitable from age 6 and is currently listed as an open age session.
Based on enrolment interest additional sessions may be added for different age groups.
WHAT TO WEAR: Sneakers, Shirt, Shorts or Leggings. Hair neatly secured.
PARKOUR - NEW IN 2019!

EXTENDED TRAINING & AUDITION BY INVITATION CLASSES
In response to feedback we are re-introducing the option of Ballet exams for 2019 following the ATOD
syllabus (Australian Teachers of Dance). RAD syllabus work is also available.
To start the year these classes will commence as 'Exam Preparation Classes' so dancers may see how
they feel working towards the syllabus - with additional exam requirements (uniform, costs etc) provided
to those who wish to proceed with exams. These classes are also open to those who would like to take
an additional technique only class, to extend on their Ballet training.
In Term 1 the scheduling is pitched at younger dancers taking this class however as it is following a
syllabus there is no age limit and should interest in exams persist with older students we are able to add
additional classes specifically catering to this.
EXTENDED TRAINING - ATOD BALLET
In 2019 we are re-establishing a Junior and Senior dedicated performance group for those who wish to
pursue their dance further. Class training will include strength, conditioning and flexibility, class work in
various performing arts genres and development of skills relative to a professional dancer (i.e. moc-
audition experiences and assisted development of your Dance CV with head shots). It is essential that
parents are able to offer their full commitment in supporting extra requirements that may come up along
the way - i.e. extra rehearsal time, events etc.
The performance company students will also work on creating performance routines of a very high
standard and will be offered many performance opportunities over the year.
Entry is strictly via Invitation to Audition after a recommendation from Teachers and/or Directors.
Participants must also be enrolled in at least one other Concert or Term class. We will be extending
invitations soon based on who we have already identified as suitable for this class - however we also
accept expressions of interest so we can be aware this is what you are striving for and assist you to this
level.
This class will not include a costume fee - however costume costs may arise for specific events and will
be advised at the time.
EXTENDED TRAINING - PERFORMANCE COMPANY CLASSES
EXTENDED TRAINING - PRIVATE LESSONS
Private Lessons are available for all genres with vocal lessons being our most popular booking.

GET THE BEST OUT OF STUDIO LIFE... DANCER ETIQUETTE
BE PUNCTUAL - Arriving late can sometimes be unavoidable but it does impact on your training
and safety as you miss warm up, and it causes interruption to the class. So plan to be 5 - 10
minutes early.
BE PREPARED - It is not much help coming to Tap class without your Tap shoes or wearing
ballet tights to Hip Hop! So be sure to arrive at class fully prepared in the correct clothing with your
required shoes, water bottle and loads of hard working and happy energy!
SHOW COURTESY TO OTHERS LEARNING - If you have arrived early or are hanging out after
class please be aware of conversational noise which might prove a distraction (but by all means
you can stay as long as you like!)
DANCE IS A TEAM SPORT - Yes dancers progress as individuals, but dance classes are a team
environment and our whole studio is a large community so try not to miss classes as this impacts
the team - but most importantly always offer your respect to others, respect yourself and be
conscious of your actions at all times - Every person in our studio is welcome and worthy
DRESS STANDARDS
SAFETY, SUITABILITY & DIGNITY - Whilst we do not enforce a branded studio uniform
appropriate dance attire and a high level personal presentation is requested at all times for dancer
safety, suitability and dignity. Personal hygiene must also be maintained for your own comfort and
the comfort of others (i.e. deodorant, clean feet) and hair must be tied back and jewellery
removed.
We stress that is not appropriate to send little ones in day to day clothes such as pretty sandals,
party dresses, wide leg shorts without fitted bike shorts underneath or underwear style crop tops
alone (as these can be see through). And for our teen and adult students for your own comfort
and freedom of movement please ensure you wear suitable underwear (i.e. sports bra).
You can find a list of 'What to Wear' accompanying each of the genre descriptions in the 'WHAT'S
ON OFFER' section, most of which can easily be purchased from Kmart/Big W or you may like to
visit our new local dance wear store 'ASPIRE DANCE COLLECTIONS', 5/2880 Albany Highway,
Kelmscott. (Be sure to let them know you are from Explosive Dance & Theatre Co.)
S T U D I O C O N D U C T / F A Q s
Explosive Dance & Theatre Co works hard to communicate with all our families so that you may feel
connected and informed. We also openly invite you to communicate with us should you ever need to
discuss anything!
Our main communication channels are email/text to our enrolled families and where suitable
information will be replicated on our Facebook and Website. (Term 1 will also see the launch of our
'Team App' for easy access communication - details to be provided to enrolled families at a later
date). As face to face communication important we will be hosting opportunities to share with you
information directly (Maybe over some wine and cheese or similar)!
So over 2019 as a year's worth of classes, events and social occasions unfold we say immerse
yourself in all of it, get involved and develop connections that may just last you a lifetime.
We cannot wait to get to know you all and share in the year ahead.
STUDIO COMMUNICATION - STAY CONNECTED & GET INVOLVED
FAQ - DO YOU OFFER FREE TRIAL CLASSES?
'Free Trial Classes' are provided on special event days however once a Term has commenced all
trials incur a trial fee of $10 payable at the time of your Trial - (This Fee is deducted from your
Term invoice should you decide to join).
Trials must be pre-booked via (no walk-ins permitted) so we may confirm if there is space in the
class and ensure we have all necessary contact, medical and emergency details on hand prior to
participation. Trial bookings can be requested via emailing [email protected]
Please be aware a trial booking does not guarantee you a place, until full enrolment process is
complete.
FAQ - CAN I WATCH THE CLASS?
'It is studio policy that we do not have parents or friends sit in on any classes unless prior
approval has been sought outside of class time or it is a special 'Invitation to Watch' class.
This is due a number of reasons including: Students tend to progress better, are more willing to
attempt new things and are less distracted when they are not being watched. If we allow one
parent in we can end up with many (and the accompanying siblings) and it simply gets too
crowded!, We need to keep a level of consistency and control over the studio space to protect
those students who may have complicated family situations.
EXCEPTIONS: Approved carers and those who may need Mum or Dad initially as theyadjust to the new environment - Note if you are in the space you are encouraged to beactively involved.

STUDIO POLICY | COMMUNICATION & INTERACTION
Communication to enrolled studio families will be primarily via email (Invoices, News Alerts etc) so
we stress the importance of checking your nominated email account regularly (including the junk
folder).
For communication regarding student progress or general questions or concerns it is our
preference that communication is made via email or phone (rather than social media) to ensure
your query is attended to and recorded properly and with discretion.
If your child (or you) experiences any issues/incidents in class with peers or teachers we request
that you bring this to the attention of Fran or Tamara immediately so we may take appropriate
action and find a resolution quickly.
Please also communicate if your child (or you) are experiencing any extenuating circumstances
outside of the studio setting that may impact feelings of safety and well being in class so that we
may ensure appropriate sensitivity and support is in place from our teachers.
Explosive Dance & Theatre Co maintains records of any injuries and incidents that occur in class
as well as any general disclosures or reports made during class time and if necessary will seek
advice from or offer referrals to external organisations if requested.
Explosive Dance & Theatre Co will only accept the highest level of respectful interaction between
Directors, Teachers, Students and Parents.
Media release permissions for all students are optional and will be fully respected by the class
teacher/studio (Levels of release are Full Release - Class Only Release - For Educational
Purposes - No Media Release.
Students and parents are not permitted to capture images or video of classes without theconfirmed consent of the class teacher. (This is to ensure we do not breech the Media Release
Permissions of each student and to protect the intellectual property of our choreography)
Students are not permitted to use or play on their phones during class time. Should a phone be
required to be left nearby for emergency contact please advise your teacher.
Explosive Dance & Theatre Co embrace interactive use of the official social media accounts
(Facebook and Instagram) as a great platform of communication. Use is to be strictly for business
and studio community purposes. Activity of any other nature (i.e. spam business posts,
harassment/bullying, political lobbying) is not permitted.

confirmed and participation is permitted
Class participation is for enrolled students only (please do not bring friends along to join in
casually without prior approval). This is both for our duty of care/insurance requirements and class
cap on student numbers and to respect those who have fully enrolled and are paying for their
classes. Should you have a friend interested they are welcome to book a trial or attend an open
event.
Invoices for Term Fees will be issued via email no less than 7 days before the Term is due to
commence, or at the the time of enrolment if joining part way through. It is your responsibility to
advise us if you have not received your invoice. As all dates and costs are pre-advised not
receiving your invoice is not considered a valid reason for non payment.
Payment options are limited to: Full payment up front by the start of term or a Direct Debit plan set
up on our system (4 Weekly or 2 Fortnightly payments). Direct Debit Payment Plans must follow
our selected dates (Detailed in our Fee Guide).
Any other payment arrangement must be requested in writing prior to Fee due date for
consideration, otherwise penalities for non-payment may apply.
If you enrol part way through the term, full registration and pro rata term fees are payable. Should
you enrol after week 4 both amounts will be due up front in full.
Direct Debit plans will incur a processing/set up fee of $5 per term
Overdue payments may result in restriction of enrolment until account is brought up to date.
Once you have submitted your enrolment and accepted your place by paying your Registration
Fee, your enrolment is for the term and Full Term Fees are payable regardless of attendance with
no refunds issued for travel, illness or change of mind.
No refunds will be issued on concert class fees (which include a contribution to Costuming,
Concert T-shirt and Theatre Fees) should you chose to withdraw before the concert costuming is
issued.
Variations to your enrolment are permitted (change of class etc) where class numbers allow and
pro rata adjustments of fees (increase or decrease) will be made accordingly
For your convenience enrolment into a new Term will automatically roll over, however if you do
not wish to continue, you must advise via email or text prior to the commencement of the next
term so you are not charged for the following term.
