present From 8 until 11 p m Rt Emi ¬ nent Past Grand Commander Frank H Johnson and wife entertained at their home on Shelby street A large and happy crowd were pres ¬ ent to do honor to the occasion By the time for the formation of L the parade on Wednesday morn ¬ ing there were some five hundred Knights on hand beside their fair wives and daughters Owing to the delay in the arrival of several trains the commence ¬ ment of the grand march was de laved for about an hour The several Commanderies were ii duly assigned to positions on Fourth Avenue Third Avenue Second and Conway streets under the com ¬ mand of Grand Captain General Jno W Landrum of Mayfleld assisted by Sir Knights W S De honey as Grand Marshal and S W Bager and Gilbert H Mastln Assistants Amid sweet strains of martial music eminating from eight splendid bands with dancing and waving banners the procession moved over the assigned course at the First Bap ¬ tist church where the ritualistic services were conducted by Past Grand Commander J M Worrall D D and the annual sermon preached in the presence of a audience packing the big 4 church from pulpit to the seat In the Sundayschool room and bal ¬ by Rev T T Eaton D D of LouisvilleA of trained voices in the meantime rendered a rum ber of beautiful selections of ap ¬ propriate music At the conclusion of the sermon < which was an able and scholarly ontO Gov J C W Beckham a member of Marion Commandery No 24 on behalf of Frankfort Commandery No4 delivered a short and appropriate extempore address of welcome R E Grand Commander Lewis made the following responset on behalf of the Wand Command ¬ cry Sir Knight Beokham Fratres of Frankfort Commandery Ladies and Gentlemen- Owing to the extreme modesty of some of the Grand Officers I find myself in the anomalous position of having to respond to an address of welcome delivered on behalf of my own city my own Command ¬ ery and my friends but as the representative of the Grand r Commandory I am just as grateful for your generous greeting extended to these my fra tres as though I came to you from the most remote section of the StateYour reputation for hospitality is not confined by your encircling hills but is a household word throughout this broad land and we are here to enjoy it to the fullest extent It is an unusual honor for us to be greeted by the Chief Executive of our State and we appreciate the themselves together for the purpose of protecting weary pilgrims on way holy shrine fight- ing ¬ under a banner which indicated they were fair to the friends the Immaculate One but terri ¬ ble to His enemies We come to you today marching under that same banner pledged to protect the innocent the destitute the help- less ¬ and uphold that religion which teaches peace on earth good will to men In of the last century when the Grand Lodge of Kentucky first oanriH into being it was you who furnished us with our first Grand Master in the person of William Murray an able lawyer of your town Ho was followed by Col John Allen who fall at tho battle of River Raisin Robert Johnson Henry Wingate and Philip Swigert To the Grand Chapter you gave three Grand High Priests nod to the Grand Council seven Grand Masters Tho latter position being now honorably filled by that sterling citizen and knightly gentleman our own Guy Barrett Fiftyseven years ago when the Grand Com- a ¬ mandery of Kentucky was tore for tho registration of Sir Knights kept open house from 3 p m of Tuesday and every visitor was cordially welcomed and made to feel at hume At 780 Louisville Commandery No 1 held a large attended and delightful reception on the spacious grounds of Mrs W T Scott corner of Wilkinson and Main streets That historic mansion and the were beautifully decorated und illuminated with Chinese lan ¬ ternsVersailles Commandery held a re- ception ¬ ot their headquarters in Music Hall Odd Fellows Temple from 9 to 11 oclock which was thronged with happy Knights girls and their friends At the same hours Owensboro Commandery entertained in the room of the Capital hotel was thronged with a bril ¬ assembly Dancing was a special feature and was kept up until far into the small hours On Thursday the newly elected officers at time Capital Opera House The festivities were concluded by I a grand ball given by Frankfort CapitalHotel from 9 oclock until daylight There was as fine a crowd of pretty Kentucky girls anti matrons and good boys as ever was seen in that classic ball room Time crowd was so douse that it was with great difficulty that the dancers could find space for that purpose but later on the crowd thinned out This was by all odds the most successful Conclave ever held by the Knights Templar of time State The old town did herself proud as the old girl always does when the
