Dear Eisenhower Family,
I have been privileged and honored to work with an outstanding
school community over the past four years. As I entered the Eagle family, I
was greeted with warmth and kindness. Together we have made so many
memories and I feel so fortunate to have been given the opportunity to be a
part of the Eisenhower family. Over the past four years, our Eagles have
made growth academically and socially. These successes were due to the
efforts of our teachers, support staff, families, parents, guardians and admin-
istration. Student success also encompasses community support. Our school
community functions with assistance from our amazing PTO. The PTO sup-
ports our students by providing activities, books and various supplies to en-
sure our Eagles had a great educational experience. I would like to thank the
PTO Executive Board Dr. Colleen Georges, Erica Trojanowski, Smitha Peddi,
Pari Melkote, Casey Conway, PTO membership and our volunteers personally
for all that they have done for our school community.
I would be remised if I didn’t thank our Superintendent, Ms. Teresa
Rafferty, Central Administration, the DDE faculty and support staff of Eisen-
hower Elementary school. This group of professionals work tirelessly to meet
the needs of our students. My administrative staff has been tasked with so
many challenges and handled all of them with grace. Thank you to all of my
Administrative Professionals Elizabeth Graves, Deanna Kelley, Janet Van Al-
len, Sara Kvenvik and Jean Yowpa for ensuring our school operated smooth-
ly. I would like to also recognize my Assistant Principals Mrs. MacDonald and
Mrs. Strang for being my right hand women and helping me to attend to the
Eagle Family needs. I am grateful to the Eisenhower School Community, our
partnerships, our growth and most of all our students. Goodbyes are not
forever, goodbyes are not the end. They simply mean I’ll miss you until we
meet again! – Jiminy Cricket
Sincerely,

On Tuesday May 9th, Eisenhower celebrated Ca-
reer Day! We were fortunate enough to hear from many par-
ents and school community volunteers discuss their jobs/
careers.
Our Career Day presenters discussed their occupations
with regard to education/training and responsibilities.
Presenters also discussed skills and interests related to their
occupations. We thank all of the volunteers who participated in
this exciting event!
Career Day gives our students a chance to be exposed to the responsibility necessary
to enter the workforce. We often tell our students that their current “job” is to go to school
and learn, and Career Day gives our students a chance to understand how what they learn in
school can translate into their future careers.
The comprehensive counseling curriculum of Piscataway Township includes many goals
related to career awareness. Throughout your child’s education in Piscataway your student will
understand the relationship between their personal qualities, education, training and the world
of work. Eisenhower’s Career Day is a great way to begin their exposure to the world of
work.
The 2016-2017 school year has been packed with fun, and exciting events as well as
fantastic learning opportunities! Together we learned about self-regulation, peaceful problem
solving, coping skills, responsibility, courage, trustworthiness and so much more! The summer
is an excellent time to practice the skills we have learned together in school. For all of our
students moving up to fourth grade, we are so proud of the
growth you have made, and can’t wait to hear about all you
will continue to learn. For all those returning to Eisenhower
in September I look forward to seeing you then. I hope you
all enjoy your summer!

Playgrounds: Injury facts – children who fall off climbing equipment, slides, and
swings usually injure their face, head, or arms. Safety check - preschool-age
children shouldn’t be more than four feet off the ground. Make sure sur-
faces are cushioned, equipment maintained, and no exposed bolts or open “s”
hooks.
Heat exposure: Illness facts - Children can develop heat exhaustion and become
seriously dehydrated when in the hot sun for too long. Symptoms include pale
skin, dizziness, headache, fatigue, nausea, and vomiting. Kids under four years old
are especially at risk in high temperatures. Safety check – Keep children indoors
during heat waves. Make sure they have plenty of fluids even if kids say they are
not thirsty. NEVER leave a child in a car, which can heat up quickly.
Bicycles: Injury facts: Kids often crash into obstacles or lose control of their bikes, but the most serious injuries oc-
cur when children are struck by cars.
Safety check – Make sure your child wears a helmet every time they ride a bike. It should be snug and level with
the forehead. Do not let children ride in the street before the age of 10, and teach riders to look both ways before
crossing the driveway or streets.
Skateboards and Scooters: Injury facts – head injuries and wrist fractures are a common occurrence. Kids are
most likely to get hurt when they are first learning to ride, ride too fast, or attempt tricks. Safety check – Safety
gear is a must! Helmets, wrist guards, non-slip shoes, elbow pads, and knee pads should be worn, and no child un-
der 5 years should use skateboards or scooters.
Lawn Mowers: Too many tragic accidents happen when a child falls off a riding lawn mower or is accidentally run
over. Safety check – Keep all children far away from the mowing area. Always look around the mower before
putting into motion, especially when backing up.
Food Poisoning: Illness facts – Bacteria grow quickly in perishable food that is left out too long. Symptoms resem-
ble stomach flu: nausea, cramps, vomiting, diarrhea, and in severe cases, fever and bloody stool. Safety check –
Make sure food is cooked thoroughly. Wash your hands often, and never leave food out for more than an hour
when it’s hot outside. Store food in a well-insulated
cooler with plenty of ice when outside at picnics and
Lost & Found
Please check the lost and found area located in the
cafeteria prior to the last day of school. We have
many hats, gloves, sweatshirts, sweaters, jackets and
other assorted items that children have left on the
playground, in the cafeteria, and/or dropped in the
hallway. Please be advised that what is not picked up
by June 20 will be donated.
Top 6 Summer Safety Hazards Please remember to pick
up all student medications
from the nurse’s office on or a
few days before June 20th, as
they will be discarded on the
last day of school.
