WHO IS I AM MY SISTER’S KEEPER?

I AM My Sister’s Keeper, Inc. (IAMSK) was established as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization in July 2016, and is headquartered in Sanford, North Carolina. Our mission is to facilitate social, emotional, and financial well-being among low income women by providing them with the tools and resources needed to escape poverty.

Through our Culture87, The 5 P's, and THRIVE programs, we provide women and children who live below the national poverty level with practical solutionsfor daily living and occupational advancement, thereby equipping them with the skills necessary to seek and obtain better paying jobs. We work diligently to partner women in our programs with accomplished mentors who can guide and lead them to become more effective role models and examples for their children.

The organization was birthed out of the heart of Founder & Executive Director, Karolyn Johnson where her life experiences, and her desire to be a blessing to women and children everywhere who feel they have no one or anything they can depend on, lean on, or glean from for direction, assistance, and achieving their goals.

Since being in existence, I AM My Sister’s Keeper has provided supportive services to over 85 families, providing them with Winter clothing. We have also worked to provide warm meals to 150 members of the homeless population. Additionally, our annual Remove the Mask tour has served 151 women, resulting in at least 35 of those women obtaining better jobs, going back to school, or starting their own businesses.

How can our services help? Our services will help women take career assessments and other job placement tests to discover their most skilled areas and areas of interest. They will attend interactive classes and workshops that address each phase of the job search process including, but not limited to: Resume Building, Networking, Application Process, Interview Prep, Follow-Ups, Receiving/Accepting Job Offers, and Salary Negotiation.

Our services will also provide a mentorship program and assign these women to a career coach where they can

engage in group activities such as Defining Career Goals, Discovering Their Purpose, Leadership, and

Entrepreneurship. Our services will also provide them with computer training so that the women can build and

improve their computer skills to appear more desirable to employers and to excel in an office work environment.

We do this by providing interactive courses such as Typing/Keyboarding, Basic Bookkeeping, Microsoft Office,

QuickBooks, and Data Entry Systems. Finally, our services will also help women build a positive professional

image so that they can discover the confidence they possess inside and use it to take on the demands of the world

around them. Looking the Part, the women will be required to participate in interactive classes and workshops

that highlight the importance of "dressing the part" with subjects such as Building a Professional Image, Dressing

to Impress, and Maintaining Self Esteem.
