A PRECIOUS GIFT INSIDE YOU By Mr V J Thamizharasan

A wise woman who was travelling in the mountains found a precious stone in a stream. The next day she met another traveller who was hungry, and the wise woman opened her bag to share her food. The hungry traveller saw the precious stone and asked the woman to give it to him. She did so without hesitation. The traveller left, rejoicing in his good fortune. He knew the stone was worth enough to give him security for a lifetime. But, a few days later, he came back to return the stone to the wise woman. ‘I’ve been thinking,’ he said. ‘I know how valuable this stone is, but I give it back in the hope that you can give me something even more precious. Give me what you have within you that enabled you to give me this stone.’ Sometimes it’s not the wealth you have but what’s inside you that others need…..A Precious Gift inside you.

9 INSIGHTS ON DEALING WITH CHANGE,CHALLENGES AND PAIN

There are many things that people find it hard to deal with in life. Most people get too comfortable with life that they refuse to accept change. There are some who have problems facing the challenges that life has to offer. Many are defeated by pain and suffering and refuse to go on. But all these are part of living and we all should be able to accept this to be able to survive. Here are 9 insights to help you deal with change, challenges and pain.

Change is Inevitable

Whether you are a failure today or at the top of your game you should never think that things will always be the same. As they say, the earth goes around. Sometimes you are on top, sometimes you are at the bottom, but it never stays that way. Just as the world continues to turn, life constantly changes as well. Because of this we should always be on our toes expecting all possibilities because one important fact of life is that change is inevitable.

Time Heals all Pain

Just as the body needs time to rest and heal itself from a wound or a sickness, emotional pain and suffering due to the challenges of life takes time to heal as well. Do not dwell on your pain and expect it to be there forever. Take one day at a time and see how your pain will decrease through time. Some may take years to overcome a burden. Some may never get to do so if they fail to let go of the memories that make them so.

Say Thank You

No matter how bad things get, there will always be someone else who has it worse than you. Instead of focusing on the things that cause you pain and discomfort, try to see the things that you still should be thankful for. Being thankful is a good trait that will help you cope with the things that you may have lost or through the wrong ways you have been treated.

Page 7: Hypnotique April 14

-7-Each waking day be thankful that you are alive. Be thankful for your

food and the bed you have slept on. Sometimes the littlest things we neglect to appreciate are things other people hope to have. Do not take anything and anyone for granted and learn to say thank you every chance you get.

Don’t Beat Yourself UpBefore you can forgive other people you should first learn to forgive

yourself of the things you have done wrong and regret. Don’t be so hard on yourself. Everyone makes mistakes. Learn from them.

Taste Your FoodLife is like a plate of food. If you eat fast and take big bites, you will

not enjoy the taste and flavor it can give you. I was told to taste my food. Chew slowly and take small bites at a time. Just like life, take things slow and live in the now. Take time to stop and smell the roses, look at the clouds and marvel in life’s little mysteries.

You Cannot Control EverythingWe all get frustrated when things don’t go our way or when things

are beyond our control. But life is ironic and unpredictable. Accept that there are things that we cannot control. Just do what you can and eventually things will work out for the best.

Be YourselfNo matter how much things change around you, do not let it change

who you are. Be yourself even though you try to adapt to the changes and challenges of life.

Stay HealthyBeing sick and weak makes it harder to face challenges and pain.

Take care of your health by eating right, sleeping well and exercising regularly. Stay healthy and you will decrease your stress levels faster.

Life is PainOne last reminder, pain comes with being alive. If you are afraid of

facing pain and suffering you will never get to live fully. Just remember that everything happens for a reason. In time you will understand why things have to happen the way they did.

-8-FISHING FOR MORE

By Mr V J Thamizharasan

A father and his son went fishing on a small boat, hungry.

The father helped his son reel in his first fish, and it was a beauty.

“Great catch, son,” the father said.

“Yes, but I’m worried I’m missing out on better fish,” the son said. “What if I could catch a bigger, tastier fish?”

“Maybe you should try,” the father said.

And the son did, catching an even bigger fish an hour later. “A real beauty,” the father said.

“But what if there are better fish out there?” the son asked.

“Maybe you should try,” the father said.

And the son did, catching a bigger fish, then wondering if there were better fish, catching another, and so on.

At the end of the day, the son was exhausted. The father asked, “How did the fish taste?”

The son hesitated. “I’m not sure. I was so busy looking for better fish that I didn’t taste any of them.”

The father smiled contentedly, patted his belly. “Don’t worry. They were delicious.”

We are all of us like the son. We all worry, at some time or other, that we’re missing out on things.

It’s why we’re so busy — we take on so much because we don’t want to miss out. We take on dozens of goals and aspirations, because we don’t want to miss out.

Page 9: Hypnotique April 14

-9-But here’s the bare truth: we will miss out, no matter what. It’s

inevitable. We cannot do or try everything in the world, even with lives twice as long. We cannot see every town and city, read every interesting book, watch every important film. We will always, always miss out.

What you’re doing right now is all that matters. Let the rest go, and enjoy the fish you’ve already caught.

AN EXCERPT FROM SECRETS OF THE WORLD CLASS(Turning Mediocrity into Greatness)

by Steve Siebold

The Ultimate Goal of the world class thinker is to ascend to the highest level of awareness in the shortest amount of time. The more aware you become, the more successful, fulfilled and happy you will be.

I have had the privilege of competing against, coaching, being coached by and observing world-class performers since I was six years old. As a junior tennis player competing throughout the United States from ages 7 - 18, I became fascinated with what it takes to become a champion. My dream was to be ranked among the Top 10 players in the world, but I fell short. At my best, I hovered around the Top 500 in the world, and that’s as high as I could seem to reach. Deep down, I knew I had the talent to make my dream a reality, and I knew the missing link was mental. After I hung up my racquet for the last time, I became obsessed with uncovering the mental toughness secrets of champions.

Starting in 1984, I spent every free moment conducting interviews with champions, reading their books and studying everything I could get my hands on about the psychology of peak performance. My friends said I was obsessed. They were right. This book is the result of my 20-year obsession.

Page 10: Hypnotique April 14

-10-When I started to implement the ideas in this book, my whole

life changed. It wasn’t overnight, but sometimes it seemed like it. There’s no magic here, just practical thought processes, habits and philosophies drawn from the greatest performers in the world.

This book contains no theories. Every secret comes straight from the street of experience, either my own or that of our clients. This book is loaded with ideas you can implement immediately. Some will be familiar and some new. All of them have the power to catapult your results, no matter how high you’re flying. It’s been said that speakers and writers espouse wisdom on the very topic they need most. Now that you know my story, you know this is true for me. After 20 years of studying and teaching mental toughness to people throughout the United States, Canada and 10 other countries, I can honestly tell you that many times I still think like a complete amateur, operating out of the same middle-class consciousness that I ridicule in this book. After all these years, my mental toughness growth is still a work in progress.

The good news is that mental toughness is a skill that can be learned, and the tougher you get, the bigger you’ll dream and the more fun you’ll have.

LEADERSHIP LESSONS FROM SAM WALTON(The founder of Wal-mart, the international discounting retail

giant. He is a model business leader who has changed the way big business is done).

Sam Walton always wanted to be in retail from his youth and he had a deep passion for it. Apart from a short stint in the military, he had been in retail for the whole of his life. His first job started in JC Penney at a management training program, but he left soon after because he enlisted in the military for World War II. When he returned from World War II, he wanted to start variety stores and he bought a Ben Franklin franchise to start off. He did extremely well with the franchise and achieved extremely good sales in his stores.

Page 11: Hypnotique April 14

-11-His strategy of buying in bulk and discounting proved to be a hit

with the customers and it was then that he saw a future in discounting. Over time, he opened up several more Ben Franklin stores with his father’s and brother’s assistance. Because he felt that he could not have the flexibility to run the business with Ben Franklin stores, he decided to set up his own Wal-mart store; the first one in Arkansas.

With his Wal-mart business, he began to use the discounting strategy that he had begun to adopt in the Ben Franklin stores. It proved to be successful and he saw that discounting was the future of retail. With this strategy, he began expanding in the area, and ultimately all over the United States. Eventually, Wal-mart became the largest corporation in the US, with revenue of US$404 billion in 2009.

LEADERSHIP LESSONS

1. Stick to fundamental valuesSam Walton had simple values that guided him through his life

and business. He didn’t follow the latest management fad, nor did he believe in any of the get-rich-quick ideas. He was solidly living his life by the values that he grew up with. Similarly, as a leader building a team or an organization, you need to get away from all the ‘noise’ about the latest management framework, or the next idea about how leadership should be done. The principles that existed for thousands of years still exist today and all you have to do is follow them, and people will follow you. There is nothing new under the sun and you shouldn’t be swayed by different ways and ideas; but stick to your values and you will be successful.

2. Don’t follow the money, follow your passionSam Walton didn’t start off his variety stores with an ambition to

become rich; he simply had a passion for his craft and at each point in time, he only wanted to do it better and better. The thing is, if you follow the money, you’ll be running from one business opportunity to another, without any focus. But Sam Walton had one focus: retail and so should you. When you follow your passion, you’ll be successful, in whatever craft you do, and you’ll become a leader in that field, no matter what.

Page 12: Hypnotique April 14

-12-3. Take care of your people

Sam Walton took extremely good care of his employees and he gave every employee a chance to become successful with him by allowing them to purchase stock options of Wal-mart at a discount. He treated them as associates of the business and wanted them to enjoy part of Wal-mart’s success.

If you can value every single employee or team member in your organization, it will help toward your personal success as well. But do it only because you genuinely care. Make them part of the organization by allowing them to share the organization’s success, be it by stock options or other forms of rewards.

There’s a saying that goes, if you can make people around you successful, then you will be successful too.

5 TIPS TO STOP MAKING COMPARISONS AND FEELING BAD ABOUT YOURSELF

We all have some things we do not like about ourselves. No matter how good we are at something, there seems to always be someone smarter or better at what we do. People around us can also be more cruel than supportive. People find it easier to criticize than to give a compliment to whom it is due. Because of this, many people have a certain insecurity in them wishing to be someone more than who they really are.

We all feel inferior when we try to compare ourselves to other people. They say that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. But the truth is, we are all given our own special gift. We cannot compare ourselves to anyone else because we are all unique. Everyone is special in their own way and before anyone else gets to appreciate that, you have to learn to appreciate yourself first

Here are the five ways to stop making comparisons and feeling bad about yourself.

Page 13: Hypnotique April 14

-13-Be Thankful

No matter how unfortunate you think you are compared to someone who is more popular, richer or better looking than you, there is always someone else our there wanting to be in your shoes. You have to learn to appreciate the good things in your life and not to focus on the things you don’t have.

Be thankful for your special talents and little blessings that come your way each day.

Everybody Plays A RoleThere is a saying that goes “Life is a stage.” Just like a play, we all

play an important role to be able to tell the story. Some people get the lead roles. Some get bit roles. But no matter what role you play you are part of the bigger picture. Your part is very important. We compliment each other as we go through life. Know what you are meant to do with your life and do your tasks to the best of your ability.

There’s a ReasonLife may seem unfair at times. But it is the diversity and adversity

in life that makes it interesting and worth living. Everything happens for a reason. So when things don’t seem to go the way you want them to be, just try your best to find a solution and trust that everything will work out fine. One day the reason for why things happen will reveal itself to you.

Be A Better YouInstead of comparing and competing with other people, you

should compare and compete with yourself. Comparing yourself with someone else can jsut distract you from the path you should really go. Take notes of how you were in the past and try your best to be better than who you were before. Compete with yourself, because that is the only person in this world whom you can change and make better.

10 TIPS TO IMPROVE YOUR SPEAKING VOICE

“Well-timed silence hath more eloquence than speech.” - Martin Fraquhar Tupper

One of the most important components of public speaking is the sound of your voice. It influences the impact of your message, and might even make or break the success of your speech. Fortunately, for many people, good voice quality can be learned. Here are ten easy tips :

1. Breathe from your diaphragm – Practice long and controlled exhales. When you speak, use breath to punctuate your point. For example, take a breath at the end of each phrase whether you need to or not. Use that opportunity to pause and let the listeners absorb what you say.

2. Use pitch – Lower pitches generally are more soothing to hear. However, modulating your pitch for emphasis will keep your listeners engaged. Develop your pitch by practicing humming.

3. Moderate your volume – Find out if you speak too loudly or too softly. When you begin speaking, ask your audience how your volume is (each situation is different). Try to stay at the appropriate volume throughout your speech.

Change is InevitableAnother useful saying says “Change What you Can, and Accept

what you cant change.” If you want to be a better person, take steps to improve yourself. Learn to accept your shortcomings and embrace who you are

Page 15: Hypnotique April 14

-15-4. Moderate your pace – This one is also closely related to

breath. If you speak too quickly, people can’t keep up. If you speak too slowly, people will lose interest. Record your speech to determine if you need to change your pace. Get feedback from others.

5. Articulate – Try exaggerating your lip movement to reduce mumbling. Practice articulating tongue twisters and extending and exaggerating vowel sounds. Become an expert at articulating tongue twisters as quickly and crisply as possible. Focus on the ones you find difficult.

6. Practice your speech in advance and determine where you want to pause for a breath. For more emphasis, pause for more than one breath. Mark your breathing points in your notes.

7. Loosen up before you begin. Look side to side. Roll your head in half-circles and roll your shoulders back. Shift your rib cage from side to side. Yawn. Stretch. Touch your toes while completely relaxing your upper body, then slowly stand up, one vertebra at a time, raising your head last. Repeat as needed.

8. Posture – Stand up straight and tall to allow full lung capacity and airflow.

9. Record your voice repeatedly using different ways of speaking. Determine which one is most pleasing.

10. Practice breath control – Take a deep breath, and while you exhale, count to 10 (or recite the months or days of the week). Try gradually increasing your volume as you count, using your abdominal muscles—not your throat—for volume. Don’t let your larynx tense up.
