What is Hyperbole?

Using exaggeration to make a point!

Exaggeration = making something seem larger, better, worse, or more important than it really is..

Example: “I wouldn’t go to the movies with you if you were the last person on earth!”

Percy Examples“She (Mrs. Dodds) looked mean enough to ride

a Harley right into your locker.” (Ch1 p.4)

“The card was in fancy script, which was murder on my dyslexic eyes…” (Ch2, p.24)

“We’re getting on the bus,” he (Grover) told me. “Come on.” “What?” I said. “It’s a thousand degrees in there.” (Ch2, p26)

“They went back to their conversation as if I’d never existed.” (Ch2 p. 23)
