U.S. Humanitarian Response to Hurricanes Iota and Eta U.S. Government Assistance Humanitarian Assistance U.S. Military Assistance Kitchen Sets Blankets More than $17 million in humanitarian assistance allocated to support affected communities in Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Colombia. USAID partners are providing emergency critical humanitarian assistance including: 24 Missions to transport aid and response staff Back-to-back hurricanes have unleashed heavy winds, rain, and severe flooding and landslides across Central America. On November 3, Hurricane Eta made landfall as a powerful Category 4 storm. Just two weeks later Hurricane Iota, a Category 5 storm at its strongest, traveled the same path through the region. On November 17, USAID deployed a Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) to lead the U.S. Government’s humanitarian response. USAID Disaster Assistance Response Team This elite team is on the ground conducting assessments, identifying humanitarian needs, and working with humanitarian partners and affected governments to deliver immediate aid.
