NEW TKM INTER-CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP GETS BIG THUMBS UP FROM DRIVERS

Formula TKM drivers have given a big thumbs-up to the new Midlands based Inter-Club Championship which was announced at the KartMania Show over the weekend.

The TKM Inter-Club Championship has come out of feed-back from drivers and parents who like the idea of competing in a championship outside of one circuit and welcome the idea of a low cost series which doesn’t involve the time and expense of travelling all over the country.

The MSA has given its outline approval to the championship for Juniors and Senior Extremes which will be taking place at Kimbolton, Shenington, Rissington and Whilton Mill in 2012 with the regulations issued under the auspices of the Hunts Kart Club.

Updated event dates are as follows:

May 13 Kimbolton June 16/17 Shenington 2 day meeting July 1 Rissington Sept 23 Whilton Mill

In each case there will be testing available the day before at the circuit (Friday in the case of Shenington which is a two day race meeting).

Racing at each event will be via the normal club racing at each circuit with the results in the final used to score points for the Inter-Club Championship. All drivers will be eligible to compete including novices provided they have registered for the championship. Registration costs £36 for the year which is the only additional cost of taking part aside from usual event entry fees.

Administration for the series will carried out by TKM Co-ordinator Grahame Butterworth and all inquiries for details, regulations, registration etc should be sent to a special new email address – [email protected]

Alan Turney, who heads up Tal-Ko Racing makers of TKM engines and controllers of the TKM classes, said: “We have had a fantastic response from drivers who recognise that this initiative fills a clear gap in the market. We are delighted the MSA and ABkC have made this possible and grateful to the clubs directly involved. It gives added incentive to drivers to compete yet not have to spend days away from home at events.”

Full regulations and details will be available shortly on the www.tal-ko.com website as well as registration forms. To confirm your interest in the series please email to [email protected]

Additional Supplementary Regulations 2012Kart & Driver LiveryYou will be required to carry mandatory livery on your kart, race suit and helmet. They must be applied in their normal landscape position. The stickers for this will be posted to your registered address. These must be in place at all times during official practice and racing. Damaged stickers must be replaced and will be available. Any livery in conflict with Maxxis Tyres or Formula TKM must be removed or covered. No cigarette advertising is permitted. Failure to carry the required branding can result in no points being scored.

Kart Stickers - One Championship sticker should be fixed to the front panel just above or below the number plate. The other should be applied on the top of the rear number plate so it is clearly visible from behind.

Race SuitA TKM cloth badge must be sewn onto the front upper chest area of your race suit and attached the right way up and in a horizontal position.

TranspondersDrivers will be expected to provide their own transponders and holders. If you do not have a transponder you may be able to rent one at the event but you must arrange this with the club prior to the meeting. Hire will be at a cost for the weekend plus your licence will be held until the transponder is returned. Your transponder must be used at all times and you must have a transponder holder mounted in the correct position. Please ensure that your transponder is fitted for official practice. Hired transponders must be returned at the end of the meeting. Failure to do so will render the driver liable to paying for a new one at approx £200.

Where numbers require it competitors may compete in separate championship races in which case the points scoring basis will still be the same. 1.6.2 In the case of a tie results from the discarded round will be taken into account. If there is still a tie then best overall position in any round to be taken into account and failing that subsequent best overall position finishes. 1.6.3 Championship Points Appeal C6.5 will apply. 1.6.4. Should any driver or kart be excluded from the meeting for any reason they cannot drop that round, it will count as one of their counting rounds. MSA general regulation C3.5.1 will apply with the exception of penalty (C) which will not apply, instead a points score of a minimum 35 points will apply or equivalent to the number of drivers competing in that class at that meeting if greater . Exclusion from the meeting will be the minimum action resulting from infringement of technical regulations arising from post race scrutineering or Judicial Action, except that this will not be applied in the case of drivers/karts being underweight, or in the case of a technical infringement due to an incident during the race, such as an Air Box falling off etc. The penalty for these types of infringements, which will be at the discretion of the Clerk of the Course, shall be exclusion from the race and C.3.5.1 (a) and (b) will not apply. 1.6.5 Points may be counted from any three of the four events. In the case of an event being cancelled then all three completed rounds will count with no drop score.

Sunday 11th March was ideal for karting with sunshine throughout the day and nearly 250 drivers took advantage of the good weather. Virtually every class had a full grid with both Cadets and Senior Rotax needing B Finals.Honda Cadet: - Honda Cadets gave us a tremendously exciting start to the finals with the result in doubt right to the last lap. Ethan Andrews had won both heats and lined up on pole alongside Kiern Jewiss. Third place on the grid belonged to Harrison Huggan and it was him who slotted in behind Andrews as they headed off from the start. Huggan and Andrews pulled a small gap on the chasing pack of Rory Hudson, Jewiss, Chris Lulham and Lochlan Bearman. Huggan seemed to be biding his time, content to let the laps go by before putting in a challenge. The quartet of karts behind him was kept busy swapping positions amongst themselves with each gaining an advantage, then falling back. With two laps to go, Huggan made a move for the lead, only to have Andrews take it back off him a lap later. On the last lap though, Huggan got the better run to the line to win the race by a tenth of a second. Jewiss emerged at the front of the quartet to take third. Jake Mills won the Novice trophy Mini Max: - Another terrific final was served up in Mini Max with Phillip Rawson and Lando Norris surviving the first corner to escape from the pack. Ellis Hanks squeezed his way past several spinning karts to jump from eleventh to third and set off chasing the leading pair with Jake Blackledge following him. The two of them worked together to close the gap. Blackledge wasn’t able to maintain the pace however and slowly lost contact with the three ahead. As the race reached its climax, Norris went for it at Kimbolton, but caught the kerbs unsettling Rawson in the process and Hanks went through to claim the win. Harry Holdbrook won the Novice trophy for the second month in a row.Junior TKM: - The Junior TKMs all made it safely round the first lap with Owain Rosser leading off pole chased hard by Bradley Peck, Shea Pearce, Douglas Hayford, Matthew Davies and Liam Murray. Peck and Pearce demoted Rosser to third momentarily, but over the next two laps, Rosser fought his way back to the front. Davies was the man making real and consistent progress – from fifth early on; he gained a place a lap to take the lead on lap seven. Hayford managed to follow him through into second and remained there to the flag, despite a late challenge by Monkhouse. Pearce and Peck couldn’t keep in touch coming in fourth and fifth respectively, whilst Murray’s race ended early on. Louis Back won the Novice trophy.Cadet Libre A Final: - Another six way battle for the lead developed over the course of the Cadet A Final. Josh Smith led Oliver York, Cameron Roberts, Zak Fulk, Enaam Ahmed, and Lewis Taylor. Smith and York pulled a gap on the rest, but Ahmed soon caught and then passed them both to lead before half distance. An off track excursion saw Smith drop off the leader board and Ahmed’s progress to the flag was helped by Fulk and York battling over second and third, swapping places six times. Unfortunately, Fulk hit a spot of bother on the last lap allowing Lewis Taylor to inherit third, just ahead of Roberts. Owen Byatt took home the Novice trophy. Junior Rotax: - Shaun Arnold, Oliver Myers, James Johnson and Matthew Arnold all got tangled up in the first corner allowing Luke Hughes into the lead with Luke Whitworth, Sam Marsh and Bobby Thompson chasing. Whitworth took top spot with three laps gone and Hughes was to suffer further on lap six with a spin that took

him out of the race. Marsh was now second and he took over at the front a few laps later, with Whitworth and Thompson still in close attendance. Thompson moved up to second with a lap to go, but Marsh kept his nose in front to win. Benjamin Bee was first Novice over the line.TKM Extreme: - Will van Es was in determined mood and he swept past Michael Cornell into the lead on lap three. Cornell continued to give chase until a mechanical problem put him out of the race. Sam Sanders and Chris Pyke moved up into the podium positions at this point and the order was now settled. Scott Fowler’s recovery after an early set back could only net fourth. Gavin Kilbourn took the Novice trophy.Rotax 177 and Rotax 177 Masters: - Tom Clarke had 177 all sewn up from the start. David Turton’s hold on second didn’t last long as Joe Scorey took over the place and keeping it to the end although had the race gone on much longer, he may have succumbed to the hard charging Rob Carter. In Masters, Paul Cook took his second win in a row pretty much unchallenged. Steve Sawford was second after an eventful race during which he successfully regained the places he lost at half distance. Martin Reader had a subdued race by his standards, but eventually got things moving in the right direction to take third from Greg Finke with a lap to go. Derek Watts repeated last month’s success by winning the Novice trophy. Senior Rotax: - Derek Morgan catapulted into top spot at the start and looked set for a win until Liam Ferguson began to make his presence felt. Ferguson passed pole man Aaron Head into second and took over at the front with five laps to go. Morgan wasn’t going to give up without a fight retook the lead three laps later. There was more disappointment for Ferguson as Callum Pointon and Henry Easthope were also able to pass him on the last lap.
