What is Abstinence?
An individual decides to refrain from any and all sexual activity
Some individual are abstinent due to religious reasons
Other reasons for remaining abstinent Prevention of unwanted pregnancy Prevention of Sexual Transmitted Infections (STI’s)

What does “Sexual Active” mean?
An individual who is sexually active and therefore NOT abstinent may partake in any of the following activities:
1. Kissing
2. Touching/Massaging/Groping
3. Intercourse(basically any activity that involves another person)

Type 1: BacterialBacterial infections can be cured with antibiotics
Type 2: ViralViral infections can only be controlled with treatment

HIV – Human Immunodefiency Virus
A virus that cannot be cured
HIV infects about 0.6% of the world's population
Infection with HIV occurs by the transfer of blood, semen, vaginal fluid, pre-ejaculate, or breast milk.
HIV is harmless until it becomes AIDS

AIDS – Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome
Derived from HIV
AIDS attacks the immune system, and does not allow the body to recover from any infections or viruses.
AIDS is caused from HIV and therefore received through any exchange of blood, semen, breast milk, vaginal fluid or anal mucosa.
In 2007, it was estimated that 33.2 million people lived with the disease worldwide, and that AIDS killed an estimated 2.1 million people, including 330,000 children
