Facts about AI

AI is an old technological concept (1950, Alan Turing “Computing Machinery and Intelligence”)

We already use AI services: autonomous parking, locking features, personal assistants, chatbots, smart replies, LinkedIn, Airbnb, Tripadvisor, Skyscanner,Google predictive searches…..35.8 billion spending in AI in 2019 (IDC, 2019 report)

AI systems/applications are made by humans (developers, data scientists, integrators, engineers …)

Not only AI is a doubled-edge sword (cyber defender+ malicious attacker) but most technologies (malicious software/servers, RFIDs, smart cameras,….)

AI system is NOT a black box, it is a portfolio ofmany known technologies and tools:• natural language processing, data mining, data

analytics, search tools, visualization, modelling, optimization, decision theory, logic, biometrics, HPC,…

What is different today with AI

Variety of Data sources/types

•Variety of data sources (IoT, distributed servers/DBs, clouds, …)

•Variety of data types (traditional, Big, structured, unstructured, proprietary/nonproprietary, stream..)

Computing & Processing Power

•Computing performance & Memory (> 42 petaFLOPS, >2x10^9 megabytes today)

•Training neural networks will replace programming applications

•Special-purpose computation elements will replace todays' microprocessors

•Photons will replace electrons as information carriers

What is needed??

Do not consider AI as a black box. Decomposethe AI systems and identify challenges;

Expectations cannot be met by technological measures only. Policy, legislative, business and social measures are also needed.
