1 Basic Requirements

1.1 Update Environment RequirementsThis guide is applicable to Y330-U05 mobile phones.

You can update the mobile phone either using a microSD card, or by connecting the mobile phone to a computer with a USB cable and performing the update on the computer.

For a microSD card update, prepare a readable and writable microSD card.

For a USB update, prepare a computer that runs Windows XP or Windows 7 and a USB cable.

2 Update Preparations

2.1 microSD Card Update Make sure that the MICRO SD card is available and can be read and write.

There are two software packages: main package and vendor package. Main package is the system software and the vendor package is for switching the CUST partition. This vendor package is just for frontline, testing department and R&D. For production line, please ignore vendor package.

2.2 USB Update Make sure the computer runs Windows 7.

Decompress Driver for Service-2012-11-27.rar, double-click Handset WinDriver1.3.exe, and follow the installation wizard to install the driver for Flash_tool.



3 Update Description

3.1 Update MethodThere are two methods to upgrade: Use SD card or USB to upgrade

1. microSD card upgrade

2. USB upgrade

3.2 Precautions

Before the update, make sure the mobile phone has enough battery power.

User data will be erased during the update. Back up important data before the update.



4 Update Procedure

4.1 microSD Card Update[For frontline]

4.1.1 Main package upgrade

Make sure the current software version is Y330-U05

V100R001C00B130CUSTARGC110D001 or low. Keep the battery’s power above 30%.

Step 1. A MICRO SD card of 2GB or more should be available.

The MICRO SD card made by Sandisk, Kingstone, or Kingmax is recommended.

Step 2. Format the microSD card (This operation is optional).

Step 3. Copy the Software: UPDATE.APP(From chapter 1.2 you can know which one

is the main package) to a directory named dload.

Step 4. Copy the entire dload folder (with UPDATE.APP in it) to the root directory of

the MICRO SD card.

Step 5. Insert the MICRO SD card into the handset and power on. After entering the

home screen, press Settings-> Updates-> System Update-> Local update -

>Confirm to start the upgrade. Reference to the following pictures.



Step 6. When the progress bar stop, the phone will restart, if not you need to remove the

battery manually.



4.1.2 Vendor package upgradeStep 1. A MICRO SD card of 2GB or more should be available. The MICRO SD card

made by Sandisk, Kingstone, or Kingmax is recommended.


Step 3. Copy the Software: UPDATE.APP(From chapter 1.2 you can know which one

is the vendor package) to a directory named dload.

4.1.3 Factory resetYou had to factory reset, after upgrading the vendor package

The way to reset factory the device:

1. Settings -> Backup &reset -> Factory data reset -> Reset phone

4.2 microSD Card Update[For Production line]

Make sure the current software version is Y330-U05

V100R001C00B130CUSTARGC110D001 or low. Keep the battery’s power above 30%.

Step 1. A MICRO SD card of 2GB or more should be available. The MICRO SD card

made by Sandisk, Kingstone, or Kingmax is recommended.




Step 3. Copy the Software: UPDATE.APP to a directory named dload.

Step 5. Insert the MICRO SD card into the handset and power on. After entering the

home screen, go to the dialer interface, input the code[from the file “The code to

enter into ProjectMenu.txt” you can get the code] to enter into Project Menu, then

select Upgrade->SD card upgrade->Confirm to start the upgrade. Reference to the

following pictures.



4.3 Performing USB UpdateUse SP_Flash_Tool_exe_v3.1324.0.177_Secboot.rar to download the update package.

Make sure the Flash_tool version is v3.1324.0.177, an earlier version may result in download failures.

Step 1. Decompress SP_Flash_Tool_exe_v3.1324.0.177_Secboot.rar, open it, and double-click Flash_tool.exe.



Step 2. On Options, make sure USB MODE is selected.

Step 3. click Download.

Step 4. If the update package is a compressed file, decompress it first. Then click Scatter-loading.



Step 5. Select the MT6572_Android_scatter.txt file in the update package, and click Open.

Step 6. If the mobile phone is connected to the computer using a USB cable, disconnect the USB cable. Click Download.



Step 7. Install the battery to the mobile phone, keep it off, and connect it to the computer using a USB cable. The download tool then starts the download.

Step 8. If the download succeeded, the screen shown as blow.

If an error message is displayed during the update, repeat the update procedure from Error: Reference source not found.

Update succeeded：

4.3.1 Exceptions If the update fails, the screen shown in figure displayed below with the failure cause.



If no cause is displayed, capture the update log and contact the R&D personnel.

4.3.2 Log FileApart from the update information displayed on the mobile phone screen, most information is saved in the sdload.log file, which you can find in the dload folder.

4.4 Product Cust Version Switch

4.4.1 Use Putty to switch cust versionMany products can now be customized and different markets can configure their own cust packages. In this way, the same version of products can meet various market demands.

Please read the document of guidance that is <Globalized Product Cust Version Switch Guide 1.0.doc> to switch the right custom version.

4.5 Factory resetYou had to factory reset, after switch the custom via putty.

There are two way to reset factory the device.

1. Settings -> Backup &reset -> Factory data reset -> Reset phone

2. Click the code[from file “The code to enter into ProjectMenu.txt” you can get the code] in the dialer interface -> 7.Restore factory defaults -> confim



5 Verification

Check whether the updated software version is the target one in either of the following ways.

Query the version number in engineering mode. For the detailed operations, contact the R&D personnel.
