Fibernet is an UK-based communications solutions

company, delivering bespoke high performance local,

metropolitan, and national network services to large

organizations and service providers in the UK and

Germany.

http://www.fibernet.co.uk

Network Requirement

It is needed to build a new national backbone plus

many metropolitan Ethernets, with 100+ PoPs across

more than 50 towns and cities in the UK and Germany.

The new network should provide attractive VPLS

services to key business customers, while increasing

ARPU (Average Revenue Per User).

The new network should provide cost-effective

Ethernet services with high availability.

Project Information

A competition between Huawei and Cisco.

Huawei won the project in July, 2003.

Network Description

30 sets of NE40 and NE80 core routers are

deployed in one national backbone throughout the UK

and two metro rings in London and Frankfurt, covering

about 100 PoPs.

Transparent LAN service is available throughout

the whole UK.

Successful contended Ethernet access service:

10M Ethernet becomes cheaper than 2M leased line.

It is the largest Metro Ethernet network in

Europe. Because of the successful Transparent LAN

Service (TLS) provision, in July of 2004, Fibernet won

the “ European Metro Ethernet Service Provider of

the Year 2004 - Best in Business ” award by the Metro

Ethernet Forum (MEF).

China, who has more than 191 million GSM mobile

subscribers in August, 2004.

http://www.chinamobile.com

Network Requirement

Legacy CMCC National IP Backbone-1 Network

can only provide Internet IP services, not meeting the

increasing Tele-service needs.

A new dedicated IP backbone is needed to bear

carrier class multi-services like NGN, MPLS VPN,

VOIP and 3G.

Project Information

A competition between Huawei, Cisco, Juniper and

Alcatel.

Huawei won the project on June 20, 2004.

CMCC National IP Backbone-2 Network in China

Network Description

The scale of this NGN network is No.1 in the

world.

16 sets of NE80 act as core nodes and 39 sets of

NE40-8 act as distribution devices, using Huawei

VPN Manager platform for the management of MPLS

VPN services.

The forwarding plane A is responsible for NGN

service, while forwarding plane B for VPN service and

NGN NM service. The two planes are mutual backup.

When one of the two forwarding planes fails, the

tested switchover time is 25ms with no impact on the

voice connection.

The network is mainly used for bearing the GSM

inter-province long-distance voice traffic, providing IP

dedicated line service for high-end group users with

high QoS requirement.

It will serve as the core network of GPRS, 3G,
