A United FrontToll Liquid Distribution recently entered into

a five year contract with Australia’s largest

independent retailer of fuel,United Petroleum,

for the distribution of fuel to its retail

outlets in the majority of Australian States.

United is a pioneer in the area of ethanol

blended fuel products, whose lead is now

being followed by many of the other fuel

retailers in the market.

United’s General Manager Mr Szymczak said,

“We have been extremely impressed with the

way Toll Liquid Distribution worked closely

with us to develop cutting edge solutions to the

many challenges involved in delivering ethanol

blended fuel to the marketplace, in a cost

effective and efficient manner.”

Toll predominantly employs 19m B-Double

combinations to service the contract

along with a small number of single

trailer combinations. Toll Liquid’s Fleet

Manager, Peter Pace said, “The 19m

B-Double offers excellent payload and can

be manoeuvred into almost any site where

a tri-axle single trailer can be taken.”

Although the majority of the fleet is in

the Toll livery, there are a number of

vehicles painted specifically in the United

Petroleum livery.

As United continues its meteoric growth

in its chosen market segment, Toll Liquid

Distribution will carry on working seamlessly

to develop supply chain solutions to potential

challenges along the way.Toll Liquid Distribution's Fleet Manager, Peter Pace,

proud to be united with United Petroleum.

Following a significant ongoing trial

of OPTALERT with developers Sleep

Diagnostics, Toll is proud to announce

that it has installed the safety system into

its Kenworth bulk liquid prime movers as

part of its commitment to managing the

risks of driver drowsiness and creating

a safer work culture.

Toll’s Victorian Liquid Distribution team took

part in the trial and its Victorian Business

Manager David Love says that Sleep

Diagnostics have now proven OPTALERT

works and has the potential to reduce drowsy

driving related accidents now and in the future.

Mr Love said, “Our drivers provided valuable

feedback to overcome initial development

bugs. In addition, they advised on the style of

glasses greatly enhancing comfort levels as well

as aesthetics.”

Drivers wear a pair of OPTALERT glasses

(with or without prescription lenses) fitted with

tiny infrared sensors that monitor all eye and

eyelid movements. If the driver becomes

drowsy, those movements become slower. If the

monitors detect this slowdown, the information

is transmitted to an in-dash or under seat

processing unit to broadcast an audible alert.

The development of OPTALERT is timely, with

recognition of the high rate of fatalities and

serious injuries potentially caused by drowsy

driving and government regulations requiring

companies to manage the risks.

The global launch of OPTALERT took place

on 1 November 2006 at the Carousel at Albert

Park Lake (Melbourne).

Toll continues to be involved in a number

of company and industry ‘driver fatigue’

initiatives and OPTALERT is another example

of Toll’s commitment.

We take this opportunity to thank our

volunteers for assisting Sleep Diagnostics

validate its breakthrough world first product,

making it available on the open market.
