Conflict StyleInventoryDr. Marshall Sashkin
This instrumentassesses individualapproaches to
conflict and shows how tomake conflict a constructive, rather than destructive, force
in your workplace. This revised and improved editionincludes new scales that measure a team’s approach toconflict as well as each individual’s approach.
The instrument consists of 10 vignettes that describerealistic workplace conflicts. For each vignette, partici-pants are presented with five possible responses to theconflict, and are instructed to indicate which ones mostclosely describe how they would actually deal with thesituation. The results give respondents an accurateassessment and understanding of their own naturalapproaches to dealing with conflict and provide astarting point for developing the skills necessary tobegin managing conflict constructively.
The Trainer’s Guide provides explanations of eachvignette and discussion of typical responses to each. Italso includes workshop designs, a lecturette, overheadtransparency masters, norms, and references. ManagingConflict Constructively is a helpful participant handoutthat provides background information on conflictmanagement.

The PsychologicalType Indicator (PTI)
Personality
The Psychological Type Indicator (PTI) is a carefully crafted personalitymeasure that is designed to give individuals guidance about theirpsychological type using the scales first presented by Carl Jung. The focusof the PTI is on providing individuals themselves, their managers and thosewho train them, with an understanding of personality and its effect onperformance both inside and beyond the workplace.
DescriptionThe PTI was developed by The Test Agency and first published in 1997.The initial design was based on an understanding of Jungian typology anda range of type indicators.
The unique design of the PTI scoring system provides the key to seeing person-ality type in the context of how personality can be influenced by environment.Conditions that fall outside our natural preference boundaries will be lesspreferred and, consequently, are more likely to be avoided. For example, anindividual with a naturally strong preference for introversionmay find that he or she can cope with one-to-one interpersonal contact, but expressesanxiety about group social settings. This isclearly highlighted by how the PTI displaysand an individual’s results.
Features• Powerful, innovative scoring systemthat highlights the range within whichindividuals are likely to be comfortableadopting different behavioral styles tocope with changes in their environmentand the different life pressures theymight face from time-to-time.
• Simple to use integrated Answer Sheetand Scoring Key with built-in Profile Chart.
PresentationThe PTI is packaged as a Self-ScoringQuestion and Answer Booklet, with anIntegrated Profile Chart. The PTI bookletincludes basic information on Jungiantypology that an individual can compareto his or her results.

Stephanie L. Moore, Ph.D.
Is your organization harvestingthe positive results of thinkingand acting ethically? Ethics byDesign delivers essentialguidance for those who wouldfollow Peter Drucker’s sage advice: It is more importantto do what is right than it is to do things right.
The focus of this book is not on internal processes orindividual performance, but rather on system ethics. You’ll learn how to begin at the top level and, withstakeholders, design ethics into everything you do –starting with what you deliver to society and linking thaton down into your organization and the individualswithin your organization.
Through four succinct chapters, the author details both amodel for planning desirable social results as well as anew definition of accountability – one that focuses onsocietal impact:
The social contract: Your organization has a contract withsociety. Learn how to honor it by adding value to society.
Socially desirable ends: Explore how to deliver products, outputs and services consumers want while impactingthe shape of society and the future.
Socially responsible strategic planning: Discover how toplan for desired results by setting objectives that targetthe societal level.
Defining excellence – ethics in performance standards:Define your desired performance of employees by clearlystating your expectations and performance standards.

Conducting Workplace InvestigationsA situation that requires an internal investigation can range from somethingthat can be handled internally, before it has a chance to escalate, to somethingserious enough to warrant involvement of a governmental or regulatoryagency such as the Equal Opportunity Commission, the Department of Labor,or OSHA. In some cases criminal activity could be involved, which wouldrequire law enforcement involvement.
Since there are likely to be consequences from an internal investigation, yourability to properly lead and/or conduct an investigation into the matter can bethe difference between discovering what really happened, or not.
The six chapters in this title cover:• Workplace Investigations• Investigative Interviews• Interviewing the Complainant• Interviewing the Accused• Investigation Conclusions

TerminationsOf all the difficult tasks a supervisor might have to perform, terminating theemployment of an individual might be the toughest emotionally. In addition, the ramifications of conducting a termination can be traumatic; there isalways the threat of the unknown such as a lawsuit or even, potentially, anact of violence. Not handling a termination in the proper manner can alsocause a loss of morale in the remaining employees.
In four chapters, author Peter Garber covers such ground as:• Is the termination for cause or performance?• Making a plan for the termination meeting• The five-stage response model: How to deal with the stages of shock, anger, rejection, acceptance, and help
• How to properly conduct the termination meeting
Coverage of other termination considerations such documentation, employeeassistance, and security considerations
