Lesson 8 -- Prayer

Our new life in Christ creates a new relationship with Jesus. And for a new relationship to grow

with Jesus, like with our friends, families or loved ones, we need a healthy and strong

communication. God delights to communicate with His children, through the written Word of

God, the Bible. And we, His children, respond to God through prayer. Many believe that prayer

is a passive activity. It is not! It is the most active and dynamic force in the whole universe!

Prayer is the power house of God.

Let them recite the Model Prayer-- Our Father, which the Lord Jesus taught to his disciples

which can be found in Matthew 6: 9-13 and Luke 11:2-4.

The mechanics of prayer:

P - pray to our Heavenly Father and worship Him

Matthew 6:9 -- “This, then, is how you should pray: Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name, your kingdom come…”

Who should we address in prayer? How do we worship God?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

R - repent of your sins

Luke 11:4 -- “Forgive us our sins…”

Psalm 66:18-19 -- “If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not

have listened; but God has surely listened and heard my

voice in prayer.”

Why do we need to ask for forgiveness for our sins?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A - ask, seek, knock in Jesus’ name

Luke 11:9-10 -- “So I say to you: ask and it will be given to you; seek and

you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For

everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him

who knocks, the door will be opened.”

Luke 11:3 -- “Give us each day our daily bread…”

John 14:13-14 -- “And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the

Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask for

anything in my Name and I will do it.”

In whose name can we ask something from our Father?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Y - yield to God’s will

Matthew 6: 10 -- “…your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

1 John 5:14-15 -- “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: if

we ask anything according to His will, he hears us. And

if we know that he hears us – whatever we ask – we know

that we have what we asked of him.”

Why is it necessary that we ask in accordance with His will?

E - empowered by the Holy Spirit and everything is possible for him who believes

Romans 8:26 -- “ In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do

not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself

intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.”

Mark 9:23 -- “Everything is possible for him who believes.”

Mark 11:24 -- “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe

that you have received it, and it will be yours.”

How can you say that you have faith to believe that God will answer your prayer?

R - release forgiveness

Luke 11:4 -- “…for we also forgive everyone who sins against us.”

Matthew 6:14-15 -- “For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your

Heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not

forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”

Have you forgiven those who have hurt or offended you? This is the best time to do it.

Note: Get a prayer partner and pray for each other with faith in your hearts.. Pray to God, our

Father in the Name of Jesus and with the help of the Holy Spirit.
