How to Improve Your Career
Career - Definition
• Career is a term defined as an individual's "course or progress through life (or a distinct portion of life)".
• It is usually considered to pertain to remunerative work (and sometimes also formal education).
Introduction• A career is mostly seen as
a course of successive situations that make up a person's occupation.
• Most frequently "career" in the 20th century referenced the series of jobs or positions by which one earned one's money.
Important Aspects
• A persons worth is often measured by the career success or failings.
• Our career process never ends, since we are constantly learning and improving.
Strategies to Develop your Career
• You want to make the best impression you can in the work place.
• Learn to develop some good habits and it won't be long before you have got the eye of management.
Don´t Do It Later• Procrastinating has
always been a major problem.
• Identify how you’re procrastinating and create a system to discourage yourself from doing so.
• It will dramatically increase your productivity.
Speak Up• If you have a good idea, say
something. • If you see a colleague in
distress, lend your hand (or ear).
• If you're unhappy with your work and you've got a great idea for how to improve the situation, offer up your solution
Pinpoint the Essentials
• One of the biggest myths in business is that those who work the hardest are the ones that get ahead the most.
• Working hard is important, but working smart is just as important
Call People
• You should also make a few phone calls to catch up with peers and others.
• It’s surprising how many times a contact phone call can lead to a new career opportunity.
Don´t Be Afraid to Associate
• If your career has an association, go beyond joining it and make an effort to be a regular participant in it.
• Your participation will put you in the position to meet those higher up in the organization.
Stand out and be noticed
• Don´t be afraid to be noticed and to participate in new projects.
• Your changes to improve your skills and professional experience could be important for new positions.
Find a Mentor
• One of the best ways to get ahead is to learn from someone who already has.
• When choosing a mentor, look for someone who represents your values and who supports your goals.
