THE SHAME OF SO SOULS I S THA LIVED A LI FETIME SATISFIED WITH SOMETHING IESS THAN GOD INTENDED FOR THEM. TH Y VE SETT D THING THAN THE BEST .
GOD'S WILL FOR EACH OF US IS THAT WE GET THE MOST OUT OF THIS L1 FE. CHRIST PEARL OF GREAT PRICE TELLS US HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF LIFE.
To Get The Most Out of You Must Have A:
I . Definite Fur ose - -vs . .
: The Gk. denotes not a mere shopkeeper, but one who to he wants. The merchant knew what his goal wa s seeking for pearls. Not simply anything of value but one definite thing of value - -pearls.
1 . s a (1) That can never be found in aimlessness
• No urposeless soul 1s ever happy. Much of the restlessness and wretchedness of our day born of sheer aimlessness .
r. Too many are possessed by the · rider's attitude toward life. They are
IJI~ both to direction & 'i<r -t ion . have as much business at one
place as at another. They only b urn up their energies without getting anywherE but they also miss the the ride .
}--Tri-at n u ..---in<.>...'T o • Having a & striving toward 1t
imparts a satisfying sense of accomplishment. Sense of
2. produces poweT (1) only comes by concentration of energJ
There 1s enough heat in a single acre of sunshine to melt rocks the raJ are only focalized. There are
in the wea~es-t" of us to accomplis the nobelest of tasks, they are focal
That which is to focal ize them is a dominate purpose in life.
(2) That only total dedication : is the power behind the Comm-
unist movement? It a total to the cause of communism!
Which avoids pitfalls (1) That would lure you
: Keeping your eye on one single pose will not allow you to be distra cted
6:3 "And I sant messengers unto then saying, I am doing a great work , so that I cannot come down: Why should the work cease, I leave and come down to you?"
(2) Tha t would cause you to for less than the be s t
(3) Tha t ultima tely would de grade you • forgot the one purpose of
being King thus fell into the pitfa ll of degradation.
II. Hi gh Standards --vs. 45
This merchant is simply seeking the good--he is see king the very best--"goodly pearls. 11 The was the most priceless jewe J
1 . t be satisfied : The merchant could not be
with just anything that were high--i t must be
(1) Becaus e you know a bet t er way of life • Merchant had seen pea
would settle for no less. Because their demands a re heavy
2. Whi ch to com romise (1 Because comprom se wouid defeat your whole
purpose The merchant was
wa s his sole purpose. To compromise seek imitation pearles have defeated his whole purpose
(2) Because compromise forbids you from ·gettin the most out of life
/ · cornpr omise? It is sett lin for something less than .what you want. You want the most out of life--comp. mean that you will settle for something less.
3. Which win the res ect of others This merchant a oo reputation
the pearl business because he ,handled only the best of merchandise.
(1) Because you a re above the ordinary (2) Because you are what they would to be
• Never win them by compromise
of Values --vs.
: This merchant to be confused--when he found the priceless pearl he its worth. ro his keen eye it dimmed all other pearls as the sunrise dims the stars.
1. Which does not confuse value with How often we are confused by the
see the crowds madly scrambling af ter cer-tain things & then decide that because so ma are seeking to win these prizes they must of necessity be of great value.
• Feeding chickens when boy. Plenty of but one foolish chicken would
greedily grab a & takes off running a s desperately as if he had gotten the only scrap in the yard. of ignoring this
chicken, 6 or 7 others would set after him, leaving behind heap of untouched scraps. Many of us have never outgrown this chicken-philosophy.
2. Which chooses values that are worth : Boys on bank of f oode River
saw rabbit on lumber stack about 100 yrs. One went after 1t 1n frail canoe-
caught it, killed it, put it in pocket of his overalls. Started to sho~e, treacherous current capsized boa.t--drowned. Three days later found body & it on shore. One of his friends drew dead from his pocket &, holding up, said, the for which he gave his HOW CHEAPLY HE SOLD But how about What are you after? If u win the for which ou
what Will have?
• Which chooses values that meet our dee est needs
Because worldly values never satisfy : The farmer was just as rest
less and s piritually starved when his barns were full a.she was when they were empty.
(2) Because a proper of val. detects those needs
• Which chooses values --Prov • : 10 Receive my instruct ion, & not s 1J
ver; & knowledge rather than choice gold •11
(1) Because of the brevity of life -- : "Only one life, Will soon be
(2) Because of the fleeting pleasurers of sin --Heb. ll:24-26a

• All of the merchant's of high standards, & of his proper sense of vaJ ues would have issued forth nothing if he not been willing to sacrifice all he had to ob
the pearl of great price. -- t is just at this that so many who really seek the fail to obtain it.
1 . 'Nbich forsakes all that comes between and od ~ (1) Because of a genuine love for God (2) Because of a genuine need for God
• When a hie need will give up anything to meet that need, 1.e. Man & money belt in sea.
Which inca able of ore than : Even tho the mere be had
for the pearl,. it was st 111 ·worth much more than he for 1t.
: can never out God ~11
Which does not follow the multi~udes 1 content to simply talk about
becoming a Christian • Some try to themselves by
talking about the the pearl & piously wishing it was theirs.
• priceless 1s ot for those who merely for it--it is for

(2) Who would discredit salvation · There a re those who, finding the
price of the pearl greater than they are willing to pa~, seek to persuade themsel-ves that it is not so valuable after all.
: Aesop's fox & the sour grapes - Ten Spies & promised land--la.cked
to see the battle through. the courage to possess the
pearl, some criticize it & make of their criticism a smoke screen which to hide their cowardice.
(3) Who are waiting for "dollar day" in God's Kingdom ~ -
-- • for the price to be marked down. They admire the pearl & feel sure that one day they will it. But they a re going to until it is cheaper.

To express her feelings as she approached graduation, Pam Youmans wrote this prayer
Dear God,
I've got a problem. I'm graduating in a couple of days, and the world is outside waiting for me. But it seems so big and messed up. I don't know if I really want to step into it.
I believe I have a purpose, but how do I know what is is? And how will I know I'm fulfilling my purpose?
I want to get a lot out of life, but I don't know exactly what.
God, I'm so filled with questions. Help m find the answers.
