Make sure the machine is OFF and UNPLUGGED

Note that the plug is in front of the cabinet with no chance of it being plugged in without YOU knowing.

This is a chassis in a cabinet….

Typically, these are mounted towards the back on the side of the cabinet as pictured.

This is the back of a monitor in the cabinet….

Note the copper wire towards the top. This is called “the yoke”, or “deflection coil”.

The small PCB attached to the bottom of the monitor is called the “Neck Board”.

This is how the chassis will be attached to your monitor. Chassis and monitor are on

the bench to show you easily how this looks with a camera.

To get your chassis off your monitor and send it to us for repair is one thing, getting it back on after the repair is

another. We would suggest that if this is your first time at removing a chassis from a monitor you should mark the

connectors like this…..

Mark and remove all connectors that go to either the monitor or the cabinet, DO NOT remove connectors that go to another part of the chassis.

This is the tricky part…. Brain must be in gear from this point onwards. Attach the alligator clip or piece of wire to the earth

rail running around the monitor.

Page 9: How to get a chassis off your monitor without giving yourself a nasty boot! A very simple guide to discharge the monitor and remove the chassis so that

Attach the other end of the alligator clip to the flat blade

screw driver.

Make sure the alligator clip is clipped onto the screw driver away from the handle.

Holding the very end of the screw driver handle, slide the screw driver

under the suction cap.

Be prepared for a CRACK noise, and maybe even a little flash. Or maybe you will get nothing at all. Just make sure your screw

driver is touching the little metal connector underneath the suction cap, and your earth (The alligator clip) is still attached at BOTH ends. (Both the screw driver and the earth rail around

the monitor.)

Remove the suction cap from the monitor like this….

You will notice when you lift the suction cup on one side how it is clipped under to hold it on, when you replace the chassis after repair make sure it is clipped back the same way.

Then remove the neck board like this….

Notice how the fingers are on both sides of the neck board. Gently rock the neck board back and fourth with a slight pulling motion. The neck board will eventually come off.

Remove the chassis with your Phillips screw driver…..

(generally)

There you have it, ready to pack and ship for repair.

Page 16: How to get a chassis off your monitor without giving yourself a nasty boot! A very simple guide to discharge the monitor and remove the chassis so that

When you get the chassis back after repair and you go to put the chassis back in, discharge the monitor again. Some

monitors can build up a small charge even without being turned on.
