Resume Lengthfor Individual Contributors

• Two pages should be sufficient.

• Promote the last 10 years or so of your professional experience.

• In rare cases, where your last 10 years of work was with the same organization, one page will support your entire career history.

Resume Length for Managers

• Balance the 10-year rule of thumb with your titles.

• Brand yourself effectively.• Focus only on the last 8

years--or perhaps the last 15. • Avoid highlighting lower-level

positions that don’t support your future goals unless they provided you the platform and the technical experience to launch your management career.

Resume Length for Executives

• Balance the 10-year rule of thumb with the types of titles you have.

• Focus on your president and vice president roles in depth, relegating lower-level experience to a smaller space.

• Your resume should be two to three full pages.

• If you don’t have enough data to complete three pages, stick with two.
