The Industrial Revolution was the transition to new manufacturing processes in the period around 1760.And sometime between 1820 and 1840.

This transition going from hand production methods to machines, new chemical manufacturing and iron production processes, improved efficiency of water power, use of steam power was increased, and the development of machine tools.

Textiles were the dominant industry of the Industrial Revolution in terms of employment.

We find the big class division because of the industrial revolution. Upper class- the ruling people and on the other hand there is working class that they suffer a lot because Of poverty.

The Industrial Revolution marks a major turning point in history; almost every aspect of daily life was influenced in some way. In particular, average income and population began to exhibit unprecedented sustained growth.

Some economists say that the major impact of the Industrial Revolution was that the standard of living for the general population began to increase consistently for the first time in history.

Child labour played an important role in the Industrial Revolution.Perhaps only half a children in London who actually had any schooling. Many children worked 16‐ hour days under atrocious conditions, as did their parents.

More and more machines were built in factories and with that, the companies needed cheap labour.

Here Dickens shows how children were starved, neglected, inappropriately dressed, and mistreated. His statement also claims that many of the times, the children died in a result to the poor environment.

The lower class struggles to survive by resorting to crime, the women are reduced to prostitutes while children and men are subjected to low paying jobs such as factory workers, dustmen and chimney sweepers.

Workhouses were places where poor homeless people worked and in return they were fed and housed.

In 1834 The Poor Law Amendment Act was introduced which wanted to make the workhouse more of a deterrent idleness.

Because it was believed that people were poor because they were idle and needed to be punished.

So people in workhouses were deliberately treated harshly and the workhouses were more like prisons.
