Looking at the previous slide, all three images connect in one way or another. For example, when looking at the theatrical poster and the footage of the film, the link between them is clear as four characters are shown walking away from the camera and in the poster there are also four characters. This indicates the connection between them. Furthermore, racial representation is also seen here as all the characters in the poster are silhouetted in black whilst the characters in the film are also black. I was able to take advantage of this as the four characters all have a criminal past hence the reason they’reblacked out.

The magazine review also combines well with the theatrical poster as the same type of house style is also used as the masthead remains the same on both ancillaries. Furthermore, the colour scheme also remains the same with black, yellow and white. This works very well between both tasks because if the audience were to see this for the first time they would see that the products connect. In addition, the text used in the magazine review follows the poster as the tagline “What Would You Sacrifice For Your Desires?”. This gives the reader another indication the way all three link especially if they have watched the film. I believe the tagline is effective because it is thought-provoking and it shown throughout all three tasks.

The magazine review and the film footage also correlates well together as what links them together is the content with the magazine and what is shown in the film. For example, I used the conventions of the magazine review to signify the correlation between “The Racketeer” and the magazine review as I included features such as information about the film and also the headers. The header of “Fate chained me to evil, for that I must pay the penalty” is a quote that is used in the

film which works as a sneak peak.

Location is something that all the three products have in common as all the locations are similar, for instance in the theatrical poster, I used a London skyline graphic in order to show where everything takes place and it is also the emphasise that it is the city of crime. Then when looking at the film the locations used are very urban and modern. This has been shown by the graffiti written on the walls which gives off that urban atmosphere.

The uses and gratification theory can be applied in my ancillary tasks and the short film. Looking at my theatrical poster, escapism would be applicable. This is because the silhouette image is something that is not possible in society today. It would be difficult for people to hide their identities in our current society, so the use of the silhouette create that feeling of escapism. Escapism is also seen within our film this is because, our film has elements of fantasy, for instance, a gun fight scene where a characters evades bullets for quite a while until he eventually dies. This feeling of escapism for the audienceis something that we are able to exploit as we know now in our society stories such as this does not happen everyday.

Another example is "Personal Relationships" this is used is in the chase scene, as the character running away is able to evade the civilians, until eventually he gets caught but he is the an innocent character. This should attract emotional attachment and pathos towards the character from the audience.

The similarities between the “Only God Forgives” products and my own products are many. The reason for this is because I wanted to copy the motifs that are used in these products. For instance, the relation between all three products is that Ryan Gosling is the face of all of them as he is the central character in the film. This is something I haveapplied with my products as the antagonist is in every product. This indicates to the audience who the film is based around. Another motif that is used is the type of images used, serious and sombre. Through the images the audience are able to guess what the genre may be. This is something that I have been able to do in my products because when looking at the theatrical poster of “Racketeer” I used features that are iconographic such as the gun on that has replaced the letter “R” on the masthead and also the blacked out characters that symbolises evil and danger.
