HORROR MOVIE MAGAZINE COVER
ANALYSIS
By Selina Argyrou
The title of the magazine itself is
placed underneath the central image.
This shows how the magazine want the
image to be the main focus. This
also shows how the magazine is so well
known that the audience can
recognise the name and brand without
showing the full title.
The magazine usually has lots of cover lines but for
this one the magazine decided to make them small so it doesn’t overcrowd the central image.
The central image is of the main
character from the film ‘Carrie.’ She takes up all of the
front cover and has a bold contrast of
red compared to the black background. The blood that covers her is very eerie
and mysterious and her hair is also red which gives connotations of violence
which would be seen in the film.
Unlike the previous magazine cover, the title of the magazine is big and bold and covers the central image. This is also
true about the cover lines which cover half
of Johnny Depp’s head. This could be because this story is
not as famous or wanted as ‘Carrie’ is.
The image of Johnny Depp is brighter than the previous. He has pale skin and the
background is grey, there are now
colours that stand out apart from the title. This is not as
eye catching or mysterious as it is
very plain.
Johnny Depps facial expression is stern and he is frowning. This is serious, but
does not portray horror like the
previous ‘Carrie’ magazine cover did.
The title of the magazine is very large taking up half the page. It
is bright red which is contrast to the dark, black
background.
The image of the film, ‘The Shining’ is very famous, which would appeal to the readers.
The cover line “500 greatest movies of all time” shows how the magazine has a good knowledge of films, not just horror films which would appeal to all film lovers.
