 Monday, September 9, 2013 Library Cuts and the Looming Threat to an Institution in the Public Interest Tomorrow, the Miami-Dade County Commission will enter into negotiations over the county’s budget for the next year. Among the proposed cuts are dozens of staff and services offered through the public libraries. Public libraries are a vital resource for many communities where home Internet access is uncommon. Library programs serve the elderly and at-risk youth. Libraries are also one of the only places where people facing legal problems can find free information.  As law students, you are in a unique positi on to help preserve this vital institution. One way you can get involved is through Dade Legal Aid’s special event, “Lawyers for Libraries,” taking place the week of October 20 th . Volunteers will learn to give presentations to librarians and community members about legal resources and access to justice issues. 2013 Ars ht Ethics Film Series:

Glengarry Glen Ros s  Tuesday, September 17th  Adrienne Arsht, the UM EthicsProgram, School of Communications,and the Alumni Association are kickingoff a provocative film series. Each filmis followed by a lively debate.Glengarry Glen Ross is a 1992 American drama, adapted by DavidMamet from his 1984 Pulitzer Prize-and Tony- winning play with the samename. The film depicts two days in thelives of four real estate salesmen andhow they become desperate when thecorporate office sends a trainer to"motivate" them by announcing that, inone week, all except the top salesmenwill be fired. The screening will takeplace at UM’s Bill Cosford Cinema at6:30PM and is free to the UMcommunity.
