homes.wenatcheeworld.com Homefinder’s North Central Washington WEEKEND Agents Featured VikkiGildenRealEstate.com What got you into real estate and why do you stay there? I arrived in Wenatchee in 1982. I was married at the time, living in Ten- nessee, and my husband received a promotion and corporate move to Wenatchee, with Alcoa. The company referred us to a real estate firm - Mullen Korfiatis. The owner, Pete Korfiatis, a real estate legend in Wenatchee, thought I had talent and asked me to get my license and work with his firm. The rest is history. I have built a successful career and have helped hundreds of people through the hurdles of buying/ selling real estate. After being licensed for almost 30 years, I am now working with the grandchildren of people I once helped purchase their first home. This is satisfaction! What did you do before that? I worked my way through school working at the Health Sciences Library at SUNY - the State University of New York at Buffalo - which is where I was raised. When I moved to Tennessee (which is a story in itself!) I worked for a private, start-up company and established both their home health care agency and a private duty nursing division. What is the most interesting property you have ever listed or sold? For years I called it ‘The Lizard House”. A beautiful, Craftsman style home in the Historic District of Wenatchee. The owner raised lizards, which, needless to say, made it a dif- ficult sell. But I did!!! What digital tools do you utilize in your day to day business? Simple - the Internet & my Droid phone. It’s funny, more and more people text & email rather than call directly. Thus, I just keep lowering my monthly minutes! What is an interesting place you have visited? Oh, there are many places. I have been very fortunate and travel often, and far - over twenty-five countries to date. One of my favorite trips was to Switzerland where I spent a week harvesting grapes in a vineyard overlooking Lake Geneva. What is your forecast for our region’s real estate prices and sales in 2012? I have a very positive and realistic outlook. In the past three years, our local real estate market has sold approximately 60 houses a MONTH - every month. Yet, we do not hear this statistic shared in the media. I feel it is important for people to know that locally, our banks have money to loan with very little down - including 100% loans, interest rates are at an all time low, and housing values have adjusted and leveled out. Overall, our real estate market is strong and will continue to be a viable resource. During my career, I have seen the Wenatchee real estate market grow - and then level out. I have not seen it crash like other communities in America. Wenatchee has something that many other markets do not have - economic diversity. If you look at examples like Las Vegas, Phoenix, Colorado, Florida...they are all areas that speculated ONLY in real estate and construction. In Wenatchee we have diversity within our community - agriculture, medical, technology, and manufacturing. All areas are growing. Consider this: When big box stores/retailers come to a community, they do so because they have done their research and know the geographic area can support their product. In the past few years, while the USA was in decline, Wenatchee had the privilege of seeing growth in business with the arrival of Olive Garden, National Tire, Sonic, Jack in the Box and Walgreen’s. WalMart designed a superstore, and the Douglas County Port has a new manufacturing business tenant. Ours is a solid, growing economy. How would you describe the value of living in the Wenatchee Valley? There have been a few times that I have considered leaving Wenatchee, but in my travels, when looking for somewhere else to call home, I realize that Wenatchee has it all! We have the lowest power rates in the country, four seasons, great airport, thriving economy, community college + extension classes, a fiber hub, and no state income tax. But, the bottom line for me is the people. We have an amazing valley filled with people who have a strong sense of community. Which living person do you most admire and why? Admiration.........respect. I respect so many people...the journalists who bring us information from around the world, single parents raising their children without support, law enforcement officers risking their lives for all of us, teachers reaching out to our children. It is an endless stream of admiration. Lisa Day Herring & Associates, Inc.
