Dear Parents, It is an honor for me to welcome you all to Sekolah Mentari Grand Surya this school year 2012-2013. I am Ms. Christine, the class and Mathe- matics teacher of Grade 5—Arimbi. I am glad to be a part of your child’s quest and journey at this grade level. We started the week with our “house rules” and daily rou- tines inside the classroom. The students tried their best to behave and follow the school’s rules and regulations. Moreover, our students wore red and white clothes as we had our own Independence Day celebration last August 10, 2012. Grade 5—students led the flag ceremony of the said event. We had a great start so far and for sure this year is going to be a successful one. Thank you for your continued support to our school’s activities ! Sincerely yours, Ms. Christine A new beginning... In Mathematics, students enthusiastically made their own time budget plan and presented it in a pie chart. We had a quick review of other topics we learned last year. They enjoyed our fun activities like our “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” game. For sure, more activities are planned and prepared for them to enjoy while learning Mathematics. The Grade 5 students learned vocabulary words including homonyms, synonyms and antonyms .They also studied the different prefixes and suffixes commonly used in the English language, as well as extracting the root words from words with prefixes and/or suffixes. Students learned how to use the globe and world map in Geo-History. They also discussed the six parts of the map and made a map of their own. In Science, we reviewed the Science processes and Laboratory tools and equipments. We tackled about classification and the needs of this in the animal and plant kingdom.
