FAREWELL TO
MRS DUNLOP
At the end of this term we
will say farewell to Mrs
Dunlop, who has been
working at Lynwood Park
Public School since 2002.
Mrs Dunlop has contributed
in many ways to Lynwood
Park Public School and will
leave a lasting impression.
She has dedicated her heart
and soul to the students
here, creating a reading
system that has given our
students a strong
foundation for their
academic lives; improved
student ability to speak
publically through the implementation of our annual Poetry and
Public Speaking competitions; pioneered the Garden Club, allowing
our students to learn about fresh fruit and vegetables first hand;
wrote the words to our school song to instil a sense of pride and
community spirit within our staff and students. Mrs Dunlop’s
dedication to educating students is appreciated by the communities,
staff, students and families that she has worked with. We wish her all
the best as she takes long service leave next term, which will then
lead into retirement. She will be missed at Lynwood Park Public
School but we know she deserves a wonderful and exciting
retirement when she leaves. Farewell Mrs Dunlop!
STREET PARKING/PICKUP AND DROP OFF SAFETY
We ask all families to ensure they are parking and picking up or
dropping off students in a safe manner. Please park in appropriate
street spaces along Turner and Frederick Streets. Take note of and
comply with the “NO STOPPING” and “BUS ZONE” areas near the
school and keep our neighbours driveways clear. Please ensure that
you do not park in the Turner street turning circle. Also, it is NOT a
safe practice to stop a vehicle to let children get in or out of the car
on the pedestrian crossing. The students participate in annual road
safety lessons and we ask our parents and families to help in
keeping all of our students safe!
GYMNASTICS
The Sydney Academy of Gymnastics program began in Week 7 with
all 3-6 classes enjoying their introduction to skills, equipment and
collaboration. Students engaged with apparatus including the mini
trampoline and beam, focusing on balance and strength exercises.
There were a few sore hands from the grip needed to stay on the bar
and some strange noises
coming from the students as
they stretched. It was great
fun and we now know what
we can do to improve. The
students in 3-6 will continue
their participation in the 30
minute sessions each
Thursday until the end of
term. We are very grateful
for the sporting grant from
the Australian Sports
Commission which has
allowed this opportunity for
our students.
PSSA SOCCER
Last week our soccer teams played against Vardys Road Public
School. Both Teams put in a great effort and are starting to improve
their positional play.
Senior Lost 4-0 and Juniors Lost 5-2.
Although both teams lost last week, it was great to hear them
encourage each other through the challenges. This week we play
against Bert Oldfield Public School at the Stephen Street oval.
Mr Taylor
PSSA NETBALL
Last week both Jjunior and Senior teams faced tough competition in
Kings Langley. While both teams didn't win their games, I want to
congratulate all players on their behaviour and especially the
sportsmanship they showed.

AREA CROSS COUNTRY 2018
On Wednesday 13th of June, Chloe and Izabella went to Eastern
Creek to represent Seven Hills/Wentworthville at the Area Cross
Country Competition. They both had a gruelling 3 kilometre run to
complete. The girls started late in the day, which meant they had to
keep their nerves at bay for the morning, this is always tough and
tiring. When their races were about to commence, they started with
great power and continued throughout the race. Chloe and Izabella
endured rough terrain and a crowded racetrack, but persisted. Their
efforts paid off, not only for the Seven Hills/Wentworthville Zone, but
also for Lynwood Park. Chloe and Izabella have done themselves,
and the school, proud. Congratulations to them and for the continued
support the community gives our sporting competitors.

Swimming Scheme 2018
Each day, during weeks 6 and 7, 47 students attended an intensive
swimming program. Students were split into 2 time sessions. The first
group attended the swimming pools with Miss Stanaway/Mrs Cook
and the second group with Mrs Davis. Despite the cool temperatures
each morning, all students were excited to go swimming and learn
something new. They were assessed at the completion of their
lessons and each child received a certificate acknowledging their skill
level.
Being able to swim is a valuable and essential skill. If you are
interested in your child attending school swimming lessons, keep an
eye out for information next year in the school newsletter. We look
forward to being able to help provide further opportunities to develop
swimming skills.
Stage 3 Enrichment Program
On Thursday 14th June, Charlie, Caylan, Emanuella, and Carlie from
Stage 3, attended a day of activities at Longneck Lagoon. The
students participated in activities designed to develop skills in the
use of a topographic map, compass and Global Positioning System
(GPS). The program also explored environmental issues and
enabled students to develop their problem solving and teamwork
skills. All students came back very excited and eager to share their
experiences. A big thank you to Mrs Hawkins for driving the students
to and from the venue.

LEARNING SNAPSHOT
Focus on Personal Development and
Health
Students have been building their
interpersonal skills and exploring their
personal safety during Personal
Development and Health (PDH) lessons.

These websites are two of many online resources useful for parents
to view and discuss with their own children. They cover personal
safety topics such as safety with friends, recognising trouble and
acting promptly with e-books, online videos and discussion points to
assist families to develop safe practices at home and around the
community.
MID YEAR REPORTS 2018
Teachers are in the process of completing mid-year reports. All
students will receive their reports on Friday, 29th June. The reports
comprehensively cover student progress for Semester 1. As parent-
teacher interviews were held in Term 1, they will not be held at this
time. The front cover of the report explains the levels of assessment.
Please note: if your child is working at the expected level for their
grade, then he/she is working at a SOUND level. Your child has
been assessed against a number of indicators on which the stage
has been working this semester. The end of year report will be
reported against another set of indicators. Included in the report will
also be your child’s self-assessment of their progress this term. The
staff has spent many hours in preparing the reports on the students
and they have been checked many times for errors. However, as we
are all human, it is possible that a report slips through the many eyes
that check it and it goes home with an error in it. If you do find an
error and would like a corrected copy of the report, please let your
child’s teacher know so that an amended copy can be produced for
you. If you wish to discuss the report, please see your child’s
teacher.
Poetry Winners
Congratulations to the students who were chosen as the grade
winners in our poetry recitals. The staff and students were delighted
to hear the winners recite their poems at this weeks assembly. The
students were expressive and humorous with the poems they had
memorised. Sanawbah wrote a lovely poem about her sister.
Unfortunately, some winners were away and we are looking forward
to hear their poem at the next assembly.

Lynwood Park Public School Newsletter Term 2 Week 8 21st June, 2018
Kindergarten Kindergarten classes have been learning to
identify people who can help, safe and unsafe
people and places and to describe actions such
as ‘no or stop, go, tell’ that might be taken in
unsafe situations or when dealing with strangers.
Stage 1 Classes have been exploring their social
development following the completion of a ‘Child
protection’ unit during Term 1. Students are
learning to identify the qualities of positive
relationships with their peers through
cooperation and caring for others.
Stage 2 and
Stage 3
Stage 2 and 3 have been looking at the
mandatory unit Child Protection. While this unit
of work sounds very formal, it is a great way to
open up discussions about day-to-day life and
how others can help. It has been a most
rewarding experience talking with the children
about who they value and what makes a safe
environment.

Ninja Academy episode 2…
On a normal average school day at Woodlyn High the new year 7 class were heading to their lockers to
get out their books for their first class of the day. Matthias opened his locker and out fell a shiny black en-
velope with a golden shell design. Matthias is hesitant to open it in front of the other students so he quickly
hurries into the closest empty classroom to open it...but inside two other students are sitting there in the
dark staring at a computer screen whispering to each other. They spin around and quickly stash something
under the computer desk. “ What do you want?” they ask and before Matthias can even answer the door
opens and … someone trips and falls through the doorway onto the ground. “Oops sorry guys, I should
have tied up my shoes properly.”
From behind him a sassy voice says “ Tie up those shoes? You mean burn those shoes.” A glamorous
girl holding another black envelope walks into the room too. They stare at each other in awkward silence
for a moment until Poppy the artistic twin calls out in a loud cheerful voice, “Hey Clover these guys have
black envelopes like us!”
Clover reluctantly pulls out the crumpled black envelope he was holding and says “ Well if they didn’t
know we had one before, Poppy, they do now.” “That doesn’t matter now what matters is what they say. I
don’t know about you guys but I’m opening up mine.” Still on the floor Bobby finally stands up dusts him-
self off and says “I’m with ya, Bro.” The others all nod and open up their envelopes. Inside there is a gold-
en calligraphy writing saying
‘Congratulation you have been selected to take part in a secret challenge to see if you
are worthy to join an elite group of talented students who work together for the good of
all. Follow this map to our secret location by 1 o’clock tonight if your heart is worthy.
Tell no one.’
Later that evening several shadowy figures slipped into the deserted school library. Suddenly the 5
students noticed a flickering light from under a far away shelf. A whole shelf swung open and standing in
the doorway was Miss Beauty the school’s music teacher in a ninja outfit…
Meanwhile, unbeknownst to the 5 chosen students there were several other figures hiding in that dark
library. Two students Megan and her side-kick Jelly Bean had noticed the other students sneak away from
the school dining room before dinner was finished. Ever curious and out for gossip, they decided to follow
our future heroes in order to get money by blackmailing them.
At the same time as a cloud rolled away from the moon a beam of moonlight glinted in two green cat’s
eyes as a graceful black cat was curled up on shelf watching the entire scene.
The cat waited until the students were distracted by the entrance of Miss Beauty and slunk away out a
crack in a tiny high window and down the ivy plant growing outside the library’s wall. She follows a myste-
rious path through hedges and between the boarding school’s building where the rest of the school are
slumbering peacefully. Until she arrives inside a dark cavern in which a powerful and intimidating man
dressed in midnight black ninja robes sits on a black stone throne. She leaps up onto his shoulder and
whispers in his ear. He lets her curl around his shoulders as he rubs his chin thoughtfully and murmurs to
himself in a gravelly hoarse voice, “ So, Sensei Shells has found another team of talented students for me
to defeat, ” then tilts his head back and laughs, his voice echoing around the rocky cave as his left hand
touches the rough scar running through the eyepatch covering the place where his left eye used to be...

Who Am I ?
Guess The Teacher
I was born in Wagga Wagga and in my spare time I enjoy
watching cooking shows and being involved with football.
My first job was at the Kmart checkout. I have 3 siblings
and 3 children (2 sons and 1 daughter). I have 5
pets, they are a dog, cat, fish, turtle and
snake. An interesting fact is that I enjoy
working with kids and a cool thing about me is
that I can cook. I am female. My favourite
colour is purple and my favourite food is salad. My favourite
holiday is Halloween and I have a great sense of humour.
Riddles:
1. A cowboy rode into town on Fri-
day. He stayed in town for three days and rode out on Friday. How was that possible?
2. What starts with an ‘e’ and ends with an
‘e’ and has one letter in it?
3. Lives in winter, dies in summer, and
grows with its roots upward. What is it?
4. What belongs to you but is used more
by others?
5. I’m light as a feather, yet the strongest
man can’t hold me for more than 5 minutes. What am I?
