Issue 5 Term 2 Week 10 2018
3-6 Bollywood Group Performs at Mount Druitt Refugee Week Festival On Friday 22
nd of June our 3-6 Bollywood dancers were
invited to perform at Westfield Mount Druitt as part of the Mount Druitt Refugee Week celebrations. Our students represented Colyton Public School superbly, displaying enthusiasm, timing and a talent for dancing. Special thanks should be given to Mrs Nadejda Mihova for choreographing and teaching the students throughout the year. Our students were the only primary school participants on the day, performing in front of a largely adult audience. Afterwards, multiple spectators commented on the excellent dancing by students. Mr Durkin, Mrs Suthan and Mrs Mihova are extremely proud of not only the performance on the day but the continued hard work and dedication students displayed every week. Well done Bollywood dancers!

Colyton Community Group
Painting at Blinkhorn Oval
Written by Aishwinderpreet Kaur 56L
I was involved in a community program to paint a
mural for the Colyton Colts Football Team that
was officially opened by the Mayor of Penrith at
the conclusion of the project in June. Being part
of the Community Colour- up was an exciting
experience because I felt I was contributing to
my community and I made lots of new friends.
Seeing my progress after 10 weeks was really
fantastic, knowing that I did part of it. It was
really fun and I highly recommend it to anyone
who loves art like me. You get to make lots of
new friends, learn spray painting skills and make
the community much more colourful!
During Weeks 6 and 7, 22 students from Years 3-6 represented Colyton Public School at the Synergy Dance Festival. The festival was held at Evan Theatre, Penrith Panthers and was a showcase of many talented dancers across schools in Sydney. On the 5th of June, our students had a full dress rehearsal during the day and then presented an exhilarating performance that night. The following week on the 12th of June, they took the stage again for a matinee performance in front of a large crowd including 40 students from our school who came along to absorb the amazing performances.
Our piece 'Arabian Nights' told the story of Aladdin and his journey through a variety of scenes to find love. The festival allowed our students to showcase their performance skills as well as their professionalism. We are extremely proud of them and are excited to announce that we were successful in our auditions for the Rooty Hill Public Education Concert and Schools Spectacular.

Refugee Week 2018
Refugee Week was celebrated at Colyton Public School during week 8 this term. #WithRefugees was the theme for Refugee Week 2018 in Australia.
Today, more than ever, we need a global movement to ensure that the safety and rights of refugees are protected. In Australia, it is the responsibility of each one of us to ensure people forced to flee from their homes can live with dignity and with hope.
To recognise this event at Colyton Public School, teachers and students created posters and poems to discuss and represent their understanding and empathy towards refugees and to welcome them to our school and community.
Parents were also invited to partake in a ‘Taste of Harmony Lunch’ that was held on Thursday of week 8. A wide selection of delicious meals and desserts from a variety of cultures were on offer. We would like to thank the parents, teachers and Lisa from the HUB for their contributions and attendance at this event.

Premier’s Spelling Bee
All students from Years 3-6 will be involved in the 2018
Premier’s Spelling Bee early in Term 3. This program
incorporates activities which encourage Stage 2 and 3
students to engage with spelling and also promotes
improved literacy in combination with the English
Syllabus.
The competition will begin at class level and progress
through to grade finals. The Grade Finals for this year
will take place during Week 3 Term 3. From there, 4
grade finalists will progress to the regional competition.
Words for the competition are provided by Macquarie
Dictionary and are divided into two categories-Years 3
and 4 (Junior) and Years 5 and 6 (Senior).
Children can access their word list by downloading from
the Arts Unit Website (www.artsunit.nsw.edu.au) using
the password provided by their teacher.
Thank you for your support of this competition.

56L’s visit to Rainbow Vomit!
Rainbow Vomit was an amazing experience. It was a
performance by 6 fantastic dancing gymnasts at the
Riverside Theatre at Parramatta. We had lots of fun
and the show was terrific. In the middle of the show
we got kaleidoscopic glasses and there were rainbows
everywhere. These magical glasses are made using
holographic diffraction film, which refracts light into
all colours of the spectrum, generating a myriad of
rainbows. The show had a lot of terrific stunts and
sometimes humour which made it more interesting to
watch.
After the show, we had the opportunity to buy from
a canteen. There were many delicious types of foods
including sushi. We were meant to go to a park after
buying as well but we couldn’t because it had rained in
the morning and the park was too wet to play in. But
we still got to play a little bit and many people were
being ‘tree huggers’. After we played in the park we
went back to school. Overall, it was fantastic.
