Pamphlets Available

The following pamphlets are available in the vestibule. There is no charge for any of the pamphlets.

Why Go Back To Confession Welcome! Thank You For Coming Finding Freedom From Pornography Blessed Solanus: God’s Doorkeeper An American Martyr – Father Stanley Rother Love One Another: Finding Peace In A Divided Nation On Care For Our Common Home: Laudato Si Declaring Saints: How The Canonization Process Works

Dear Parishioners,

Omission: In last week’s bulletin, I thanked all those who helped in any way with our Easter celebration. I inadvertently left out our maintenance man, Robert Maziarz, who prepared the fire at the Easter Vigil. Robert has taken care of the fire for as long as I have been here at OLC and does so on his own time. I would like to thank Robert for preparing the fire and also for so many other ways that he helps our parish. Thank you, Robert!

Pantry Response: I have noticed over the past several months that parishioners are bringing in many more food items for Margaret’s Pantry. On Monday mornings when I walk into the church, I see all of the items that have been brought in over the weekend and gratitude fills my heart. This is certainly one way that we care for those in need, by feeding the hungry in our community. And so, I take this opportunity to thank those of you who bring in the suggested food item (and other items) every month. I am grateful for your generosity. I also want to thank Neil Lunney for transporting all the food to Margaret’s Pantry every Monday. Thank you, Neil!

Another Way To Feed The Poor: The Rice Bowls that we passed out at the beginning of Lent was another way to feed the hungry. Many of our parishioners used the Rice Bowls this Lent for their alms for the poor. We have not yet counted the money from the Rice Bowls but when we do, I will let you know how much was collected.

Annual Catholic Appeal: Last weekend we gave an update on our parish’s response to the ACA. In today’s bulletin, you will find the latest update. If you received the most recent issue of the Catholic Mirror, you may have noticed that our gifts to the ACA have increased significantly since the publication of the Catholic Mirror. I once again express my thanks to those who contributed to the ACA and ask those who have not done so, to please consider making a gift soon. We still have a way to reach our goal. I would like to remind you that the contributions that are made to the ACA are used to help many different organizations and ministries throughout western Massachusetts.

Our Anniversary: This year marks the 10th anniversary of the founding of Our Lady of the Cross Parish. It doesn’t seem possible that it is already 10 years. The pandemic has made it very difficult to plan any type of celebration so far but at our Parish Council meeting last week, we decided that we would like to do something. We will have a special Mass followed by a lunch, probably in early September. Once we have more details, we will share them with you.

Peace, FR. ALBERT

Annual Catholic Appeal

As of April 13th, 184 parishioners have contributed/pledged $30,235. Our parish goal is $50,000. We thank all those who have made a contribution to the ACA. If you have not yet made a gift, we ask that you consider doing so soon. Flyers and contribution envelopes may be found in the vestibule of the church. Thank you!

Margaret’s Pantry

During the month of April, we are collecting cake and brownie mixes. Please place your donations in the baskets located near the doors of the church.

FULL OF GRACE Women and the Abundant Life Study

Women…Find your purpose….Feed your soul At last, a powerful Catholic study just for you. Full of Grace: Women and the Abundant Life Foundational Study is being offered at Mary’s House of Prayer. Vatican Council II asked women to accept God’s urgent call to “aid humanity in not falling.” Based on Johnnette Benkovic’s book, Full of Grace, this study will teach you God’s purpose and mission for you by delving into prayer, Sacred Scripture, Church documents and teachings, the Catechism, the lives of women saints and the example of our Blessed Mother. You’ll be nurtured and fed spiritually, mentally and emotionally. You’ll learn to embrace your gift of authentic femininity and your dignity as a daughter of God. You’ll be equipped to fulfill your call and mission as a woman of grace in the world today. The program begins on Monday mornings, April 26 thru June 28, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. to Noon. Evening classes begin on Tuesday April 27 thru June 29, 2021, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Mary’s House of Prayer, 202 East Main St., Chicopee. There is no cost for the study, the cost of the books is $45.00. All women are welcome! Come, Learn, Make New Friends and Enjoy! Be a Woman of Grace, a blessing to others. For more information call Jean at 413-452-0511 or email: [email protected].

Grounds Crew

It’s that time again! The daffodils are blooming and so are the dandelions! For many years we have had a group of very dedicated parishioners who keep our church grounds looking beautiful. If you are interested in helping with the planting and weeding this year, please see Fr. Albert or call the parish office. Your help will be appreciated by everyone.

Heritage Missal Songbooks

We have received another order of songbooks. If anyone would like their own personal copy to use when you come to Mass, please see Fr. Albert or Fr. Adam or call the parish office.

For Flowers That Bloom

For flowers that bloom about our feet; For tender grass, so fresh, so sweet; For song of bird, and hum of bee; For all things fair we hear or see, Father in heaven, we thank Thee! For blue of stream and blue of sky; For pleasant shade of branches high; For fragrant air and cooling breeze; For beauty of the blooming trees, Father in heaven, we thank Thee!

- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Worldwide Marriage Encounter

To support married couples during this time of social distancing, Worldwide Marriage Encounter is sponsoring virtual marriage experiences. Some are on weekends and some span multiple weeks on a given weekday. Couples will explore their individual personality styles, improve listening and communication skills, understand God’s plan for their marriage, and learn how to keep their relationship a priority. Registration is limited and a $100 application fee is required. For more information or to apply, call Frank & Margie Pearson at 860-337-2447 or visit them at https://wwmectw.org/. Like in the gospel today, sometimes our minds need to be opened to know what God has done for us, and what he wants for us in our marriage. Deepen your communication, strengthen your relationship, rekindle your romance and renew your sacrament by attending a Worldwide Marriage Encounter experience on:

Mondays/Thursdays May 3-24 Thursdays/Mondays Jun 3-24
