It always makes headlines, the dire Priest Shortage in the United States. Some newspapers want to make it top news. A few weeks back I had the op- portunity to spend a few days with the seminarians at Sacred Heart Seminary and School of Theology in Hales Corner, Wisconsin. They have nearly 100 men of all ages studying for the priesthood. The oldest who will be ordained this December is 67 years of age! God calls men of all ages to be priests. Anyone who has ever been called to a religious vocation is asked this question more than any other, “how did you know God was calling you”? It seems from my observation that the seed of a vocation is planted young in life. God is calling each of us to a vocation, maybe not to serve the Church as priests, deacons or religious, but to serve Him. Most men I have asked that question usually respond, “I have always felt called since I was a young kid”. In my own Deacon Vocation I can say exactly that. If you looked at my life you would see years of preparation, years of service, prepared me to answer my calling. My job is service related, and I am a member of charitable service organizations. God has a plan for each of us! We have free will and sometimes we say NO to what He asks of us. As for the dire priest shortage. Did you know that our Dio- cese has only three - that’s three - men presently studying as seminari- ans? There are some diocese’s across this nation that are blessed with many vocations. It is hard for me to believe that the seed was only plant- ed in three men out of the thousands of single Catholic men in Southern Illinois. When was the last time you went up to a single man and said, “have you ever considered the priesthood”? Let’s do our part to nurture vocations. Pray daily for vocations. Wanted: Parishioners who are willing to serve on St. Boniface Parish Council. Submit candidate name to Father Ben, Deacon Steve, Parish Office or any Council Member. The Council meets only 6 times per year. Please consider serving your Parish as a Council member. Respect Life Corner Mary, Pro-Life Inspiration—”Queen of Heaven, rejoice, alleluia.” So be- gins the Regina Caeli prayer. On this day when we honor all mothers, we turn to Mary, Patroness of the Americas and Patroness of the Unborn. Marian devotion can be a wonderful help in pro-life efforts. Learn, Act, Connect, PrayWe see Mary’s sensitivity and her spirit of charity when she visits her cousin Elizabeth, her love and maternal care for new life when she shelters her infant son Jesus, and at the foot of the Cross opening her heart to be the mother of all humanity. Mary can be a tremendous source of inspiration and hope for women in today’s society. Let us remember our own mothers and their love for us as we share the Gospel of Life. Our deepest Condolences to Mark & Jo- Ann and the McConachie Family on the passing of Brian McConachie this past Wednesday. Our Prayers are with you. May he rest in peace. We express our deepest condolences to Bill & Mary Ann Taylor on the passing of their son Morris this Wednesday. Please keep the Taylor Family in your prayers during this time of loss. Several people have requested for someone to make visits to homebound parishioners on a regular basis to give caretakers a few hours of free time to run er- rands or just to get away for a short time. You would not be responsible for meals or care. This would be a great min- istry to begin on our parish. Adult Education Summer 2015 Martin Luther and the Reformation

In 2017 people from around the world will celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. Numerous political, economic, social and reli-gious transformations caused the reformation as well as the personality of one Augustinian monk fearing for his own salvation. Join us in this special series as we examine the life and teachings of Martin Luther. Rather than simply dismissing Luther’s work as polemical or uncritically accepting his teachings we will watch a DVD series by Dr. Phillip Cary who balances differ-ent perspectives regarding this remarkable man. We will meet on Monday evenings from 6:30—8 p.m. in the St. Boniface Meeting Room. Please join us for food, fellowship, and learning. (July dates are listed below) Date Topic

Sacraments: New Perspectives

Traditional religious education emphasizes the function and role of the seven Sacraments, but our Theology on Tap sessions will provide a broader perspective of what the sacraments mean and how we can live them out. Sacraments force us to re-think our notions of reality, our purpose, and our destiny. Join us for humor, intellectual stimulation, fellowship, and tasty beverages!
