Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Mass Schedule at Holy Martyrs
Saturday
4:30 pm (in the church)
Sunday
9:30 am (in the church)
11:30 am (outside on the lawn)*
Weekday
Monday - Friday at noon (in the church)
Holy Martyrs has added an 11:30 am outdoor
(weather permitting) Mass to its schedule. We made
this decision, in part, to accommodate families with
young children who struggle with wearing masks.
We continue to encourage attendees to wear masks
but this will provide some flexibility for those with
small children.
This Mass will take place, at least initially, on the
grassy area between the church building and the
picnic pavilion. For ease of access, you should plan
to park in the back parking lot.
Please plan to bring your own lawn chair
to sit on during Mass.
*Important Note:
This Mass will be held weather-permitting !
If the weather is not conducive to sitting
outdoors, Mass will be moved inside to the
Worship Space.
If you are attending Mass in the Worship Space,
face masks MUST be worn. For more details,
please refer to the

I Can Do That
By learning to see and appreciate beauty, we learn to
reject self-interested pragmatism. If someone has not
learned to stop and admire something beautiful, we
should not be surprised if he or she treats everything as
an object to be used and abused without scruples. … Our
efforts at education will be inadequate and ineffectual
unless we strive to promote a new way of thinking about
human beings, life, society and our relationship with
nature. Laudato Si
One of the most important things we can do is to
teach future generations to love creation. Take your
grandchildren, children, nephews, and nieces on walks in
nature. Point out the beautiful and amazing things you
see. Talk to them about how we are all dependent on the
health of the planet and about the interconnectedness of
all creation. Plant a garden with them. Let them help to
harvest its bounty. Set up a birdfeeder and teach them to
identify the birds that come to feed. Play with them in
the snow and the leaves as you point out the beauty in
all seasons. When they are older, talk to them about the
importance of the choices they make in life. Encourage
them to vote for and work towards a healthy
environment. The single most important thing to do is to
set a good example.
The acorn doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Awareness on Care for our
Common Home, Earth
Pakistan is facing many
environmental challenges,
which pose serious threats
to human health and life.
First, climate change is a
non-traditional threat for
Pakistan. Pakistan has been
declared among top ten countries most affected by
climate change. Climate change is negatively
impacting health, agriculture, and overall economy
of the country. The main reasons are carbon
emission, deforestation, population explosion and
lack of finances to mitigate and adapt to climate
change effects. Water scarcity and clean drinking
water is the talk of the town these days. Pakistan is a
water scarce country. The main causes are climate
change, lack of enough reservoirs to store water,
water issues with India, and old irrigation system and
water wastes in domestic consumption and lack of
awareness. Air pollution, poor waste management
and population boom are major hurdles behind the
availability of clean drinking water for everyone in
Pakistan. The Dominican National Commission for
Justice & Peace will arrange seminars, awareness
sessions and workshops with 400 youth of different
Dominican parishes in Pakistan. We will plant (1000)
trees in different parishes and promote cloth bags
and discourage the use of polythene bags.

Consider a Gift of Stock to
Support the Ministries of Holy Martyrs
In gratitude for all that God has given us, we, as
Christians, are called to give back to our community
and our church. In addition to the Sunday offertory, one
way of giving back might be transferring appreciated
stock to help Holy Martyrs continue its mission to lead
people to encounter Christ, grow in faith, and make
disciples. By transferring stock directly to our parish,
you may be able to avoid capital gains taxes.
For more information about what you need to do to
make such a gift, please contact

Safe Practices When Coming to Holy Martyrs
Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Social distancing of at least six feet, except with family members who live with you, is required in the church and other indoor areas.
Everyone must sanitize their hands before entering the worship space. “The faithful are obliged to wear a mask or other face covering upon entering church and during the celebration of Mass, except for the brief moment of receiving Holy Communion.”
For the time being there will be no sign of peace at Mass. There will be a single Communion line up the main aisle with marked 6 foot intervals on the floor to maintain social distancing. Communicants seated in the middle sections will advance first up the main aisle then return to their seats
down the side aisles, followed by the side sections who will walk to the back of the church and up the main aisle then return to their seats down the side aisles, maintaining a six foot interval.
Please Note: For the health and safety of all, receiving Communion in the Hand is normative.
When approaching the minister for Holy Communion, the mask should be pulled down over the mouth only to receive the Host and immediately pulled up again.
The scheduled time for confession at Holy Martyrs is on Saturday from 3:00 to 4:00 pm in the reconciliation room, entered through the chapel.
a) A mask or facial covering must be worn when in the church buildings, including before and during confession.
b) Enter the chapel as usual and wait for the priest to be free.
c) Maintain social distance of at least six feet from others while in the chapel.
d) When entering the reconciliation room, you may either sit face to face or kneel behind the screen. The penitent and priest must maintain a social distance of six feet while in the reconciliation room.
For your safety and others, if you are not feeling well or have been exposed to someone with the COVID-19 virus you should stay home. You must self-quarantine for 14 days if you have been exposed to the virus. These steps will help keep you and those around you safe and healthy.
