Health Ministry: DUI-E Danger - What's That? Driving Under the Influence of Electronics. Driving is the most dangerous thing most of us do on a daily basis and it deserves our full attention. Driving distractions are numerous: besides those driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, prescription medications and inexperience, let's add those eating, drinking, grooming, and smoking while behind the wheel. And if this is not enough, include electronics which are present in today's cars…radio, temperature control, touch screens, Netflix, Google Maps and the list is growing. Probably the most dangerous electronic device - the handheld cell phone we bring along with us. Even though many of these devices can be controlled by "hands-free technology" (voice command) drivers at times develop a kind of "tunnel vision," losing focus on the actual task of driving...that is in attentional driving. There is a limit of human multi-talking abilities. Distracted driving is now the leading cause of car accidents in America. To put it in perspec-tive, "Taking your eyes off the road for about 5 seconds is long enough to cover the distance of a football field at 55 miles per hour." If facts don't sway your thinking, perhaps church humor might: "Honk if you love Jesus. Text while driving if you want to meet Him." Dayton Daily News/avvo.com/church sign

Introductions to Sunday Readings by Bishop Ken Untener, in collaboration with Catherine Haven and Fr. Bill Taylor
First Reading - Isaiah 25:6-10 The mountain dearest to the people of Israel was Mount Zion, the place upon which Jerusalem’s temple was built. The prophet Isaiah, preaching during a time of political upheaval, foresees a day when God will gather on Mount Zion all the people of the world for a great banquet. Second Reading - Philippians 4:12-14,19-20 On his missionary journeys, Paul took pride in supporting himself as a leatherworker. Now it’s different. Paul is in prison and dependent upon his beloved Philippians. They generously sent him help, the only Christian community known to do so. As he now concludes his letter to them, Paul thanks them for their support and encouragement.

Celebrating a Big Wedding Anniversary in 2018? If you’re hoping to schedule a Mass Intention as part of your celebration, call the office by Oct 31st! Couples who will be celebrating their 25th, 50th, 60th, 70th or 75th Wedding Anniversary in 2018 may be disappointed if they wait until a month or two before their special day to schedule a Mass Intention because Mass Offerings fill up so quickly. Because of this, you’re invited to call the parish office 422-0602 before the 2018 Mass offering calendar is officially opened on Wednesday, November 1st to schedule your Mass.
2018 Mass Intention Scheduling Available Wednesday, November 1st
Many parishioners like to schedule Mass offerings, and we do our best to accommodate as many requests as
possible, but we’re simply restricted by the number of Masses available. Guidelines are necessary.
* limit of three Mass intentions two weekends
* intention requests are ‘first come-first served’
* $5 stipend for each intention
Many parishioners make it a practice to pray for their deceased loved ones and to remember them at every Mass they attend. Thank you in advance for everyone’s consideration and kind cooperation.
Mission Appeal Next Weekend Next Sunday is World Mission Sunday. Each year, the entire Church is invited to support the young mission dioceses in Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, and parts of Latin America and Europe. Please use the special
envelope included in the October pack. Thank you!
Rosary Rally Celebrating 100thAnniversary of Fatima Thanks to Presider Deacon John Lyons,
Rally Captain Jim Martz, and 4th Degree Knight Jim Stabler and to the devoted crowd of parishioners who joined in the Rally last Saturday. The weather was lovely and the prayer joyful!
SVDP Outreach Ministry Need for October
BLANKETS - Winter’s Coming! If you can provide blankets, either new or used, please drop them at the church office and we will pick them up for distribution to the needy. Please mark the size on each blanket you donate! Thank you for your prayerful consideration of this special request!
Don’t Get Many Trick or Treaters in Your Neighborhood? Join the K of C Trunk or Treat! Saturday, October 28th Holy Trinity Parking Lot - 6 PM If you don't have many trick or treaters ringing your doorbell and you’d like to see the little ones dressed in their Halloween costumes, grab some candy, decorate your trunk, and join us in the Holy Trinity Parking Lot by 5:30 PM - early enough to set up for Trunk or Treat which begins at 6 PM. Bring your lawn chairs and set up by your open trunk, full of goodies. Trunk or treat is great - less walking for little kids, a safer environment for Halloween, and fun for everyone! And the best part of Trunk or Treat? Decorating your car's trunk! Some people keep it simple, and others go all out. The "trick" to it seems to be finding something you're passionate about - or have a lot of stuff for - and displaying it in your trunk as creatively as possible. If you've got Christmas lights, sports gear, cardboard, or fake cobwebs, you can have a creepy or cool trunk in a flash! Questions? Call the Knights Hotline 513-360-4760. This fun event is open to everyone - a new Halloween tradition!
Drivers Wanted!! Any parishioner who might be able to provide transportation to Sunday Mass for another parishioner who lacks transportation is asked to contact John Blake 425-8275. Thank you!

Any child in grades two through seven is encouraged to join our talented and fun-loving group. We rehearse from 5:45 p.m. until 6:25 p.m. on Monday evenings in St. John Church. If you enjoy singing, call the office 422-0602 and join us!
Check out our NURSERY located in the St. John Center during the 10:30 AM Mass. Parish teens babysit and the kids have fun!
Save the Date! Mark you Calendar! We hope you’ll plan to attend the SHALOM meeting on Wednesday, November 15th.
We’ll meet at 7:00 p.m. in the Holy Trinity Center where we’ll take sign-ups for meals, transportation, and over-night hosts for the SHALOM weeks here at Holy Family Parish - January 7th and 14th, 2018.
