Exodus 17: 5-135And the Lord said to Moses, Pass on before the people, and take with you some of the elders of Israel; and take in your hand the rod with which you smote the river [Nile], and go. 6Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at [Mount] Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water shall come out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. 7He called the place Massah [proof ] and Meribah [contention] because of the faultfinding of the Israelites and because they tempted and tried the patience of the Lord, saying, Is the Lord among us or not? 8Then came Amalek [descendants of Esau] and fought with Israel at Rephidim.

Exodus 17: 5-139And Moses said to Joshua, Choose us out men and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand. 10So Joshua did as Moses said and fought with Amalek; and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the hilltop. 11When Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed; and when he lowered his hand, Amalek prevailed. 12But Moses' hands were heavy and grew weary. So [the other men] took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Then Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on one side and one on the other side; so his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. 13And Joshua mowed down and disabled Amalek and his people with the sword.

Page 5: Holding Up Your Leaders

Simply Human Moses represents pastors and spiritual leaders who watch over

your precious souls and guarding your spiritual welfare. (Hebrews 13:17)

People’s perceptions of a pastor or a spiritual leader: Always super loving, serving, caring and forgivingAlways patient and never get angryAlways ready to sacrifice and has humilityAll powerful, all knowing and almighty Fact of the matter is: Pastors and Spiritual Leaders are SIMPLY

HUMAN The difference is only the office that God entrusts:CG leaders, CG coaches, WLs, ministry leaders, Satellite pastor,

Senior pastor, junior pastor, youth pastor, evangelists, prophets, teachers, apostles, etc.

Page 6: Holding Up Your Leaders

Simply Human Preconceived notion:

A pastor or a leader, anointed preacher, gifted WL, talented musicians, knowledgeable teacher = Spiritual Maturity

Matthew 7: 21 Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father Who is in heaven. 22Many will say to Me on that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name and driven out demons in Your name and done many mighty works in Your name?

How can you be anointed, gifted, talented and not spiritually mature?Ex: Samson, Jim Bakker, James Swaggart, Ted Haggard

Spiritual maturity is determined by our obedience in doing God’s Word and God’s will faithfully in our life.

Page 7: Holding Up Your Leaders

Simply Human Without taking responsibility of living an exemplifying life, pastors

and leaders are simply human.Yakobus 5:17 Elia adalah manusia biasa sama seperti kita James 5:17 Elijah, for instance, human just like us

They: Are not Superman Have weaknesses Have feelings Feel lonely Are not perfect and fall short Are vulnerable to sin and schemes of the devilEx: Elijah wants to die, David’s adultery & murder, Peter’s denial,

Samson’s flesh indulgence, Moses’ failure to enter promised land, etc.

Page 8: Holding Up Your Leaders

Simply Human Your pastors & leaders need your support. The picture of Moses in the middle with his

hands being held up by Aaron and Hur should be the picture of every local churches.

As long as Moses hold up the Rod of God, Aaron and Hur must support.

Purpose: Joshua to win the battle

Simply HumanHow do we hold up the arms of our pastors and leaders:1. PRAY for them

2 Thessalonians 3:1-2 1Finally, brothers, pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you. 2And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men, for not everyone has faithHebrews 13: 18-1918 Pray for us. We are sure that we have a clear conscience and desire to live honorably in every way. 19I particularly urge you to pray so that I may be restored to you soon.

Simply HumanHow do we hold up the arms of our pastors and

leaders:

2. ENCOURAGE them

2 Corinthians 7: 13 By all this we are encouraged. In addition to our own encouragement, we were especially delighted to see how happy Titus was, because his spirit has been refreshed by all of you.

Page 11: Holding Up Your Leaders

Simply HumanHow do we hold up the arms of our pastors and leaders:3. Extend grace and forgiveness to them 2 Corinthians 2: 5If anyone has caused grief, he has not so much

grieved me as he has grieved all of you, to some extent—not to put it too severely. 6The punishment inflicted on him by the majority is sufficient for him. 7Now instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. 8I urge you, therefore, to reaffirm your love for him. 9The reason I wrote you was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything. 10If you forgive anyone, I also forgive him. And what I have forgiven—if there was anything to forgive— I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, 11in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.
