FutureEverything is among the organisations leading the chargetowards Open Data Cities in the UK. We were funded inNovember 2009 by the Manchester Innovation Investment Fund*to work to make Manchester the UK's first Open Data City. InJanuary 2010, the office of Boris Johnson will announce thatLondon will take a massive step towards making its data systemsopen by creating the London Data Store. The signs are thatchange is now inevitable.
The cities in which we exist are vast repositories of information, endlessly collecting and archiving data. Following the exampleset by cities such as San Francisco, Vancouver and Edmonton,

This project aims to sse Manchester City Council Meeting's Minutes asa basis for highlighting the good work that Councillors do, and to findout further information on the activity of Councillors and the decisionmaking process of our Council.
We will be using a Minute Scraper as a basis for a Meeting AttendeeList and moving on from that towards a http://TheyWorkForYou.comlike functionality but based on Manchester Council.
It's early days, but we had a hack day on Sat 29th November, 2008and came up with a few basic scrapping scripts, and an idea of how itmight move foward. On Saturday February 7th, 2009 we met up, andmore progress was made. Everyone went away motivated to do more.On Saturday March 7th, 2009 we met up once again teaming up withthe National Hack The Government Day on http://tyoc.co.uk for thedetails. The Next tyoc collaboration day will be held in held in onSaturday May 2nd, where it's hoped to make progress on this andother development streams.
Please get in touch (http://ianmoss.com/contact) if you'd like to helpout, and we can add you to our mailing list.
If you can't make this one you are welcome to contribute online, andthere will be further date annouced shortly after that that you maybeable to make.
This project is taking place under the banner The Year OfCollaboration. More information can be found out about this athttp://alteris.blogspot.com or why not see what people have beentweet'ing about it: http://search.twitter.com/search?q=%23tyoc

OSM is mapping ManchesterThe Mapchester weekend ran over Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th May, 2006. Over 40 individualsattended, some for both days. The vast majority were new to OpenStreetMap and to GPS, so we had funexplaining how the process of gathering track data occurs and how to use a GPS receiver in order to getthem out logging streets and gathering their street names. Most of those that attended were on foot andtherefore the central area of the city within the inner ring road became the focus, which was a also thefocus for Futuresonic anyway.
Thanks therefore go to: Louise Bennett, C Boyko, Sarah Burns, Emily Campbell , Daniel Catt, DavidCoast, Steve Coast, Ben Cowburn, Damian Doyle, C Ekweozor, Stephen Elves, Ava Fatah, Anne HillFernie, Karen Gaskill, Lucy Gibson, Victor Gonzalcz, Zoe Goslyn, Steve Goslyn, Ian Harford, ConorHartnett, Drew Hemment, Karl Hennermann, Alex Hough, Shreena Joshi, G Knox, Giacomo Lacava, MickLockwood, Karyna Luna, Gavin Macdonald, L Mackay, Cristina Porro, Ian Pattinson, Chris Perkins, SamPrince, Lilesh Prodham, Andy Robinson, Jaime Solis, Mario Solis, Ian Stewart, Anna Thomson, DavidTunbridge, Martin Turner, A Wilson.

First an event!
maanantaina 22. maaliskuuta 2010
Data Visualisation Weekend
10th & 11th April 2010, Central Manchester
: A weekend of data visualisation app development,by creating partnerships of developers and designers to create adata visualisation over a weekend.
100 developers and 100 designers will be chosen from entries to the event, based on creating a diverse and mixedtalent & experience based group of individuals. Each designer and developer will be matched with each other, eitherby themselves from the pre-event networking night (PARTY!), or by us early the morning of the event should a matchnot have happened by then. Each partnerships' goal is to create a visualisation using data from data.gov.uk, BBCBackstage and any other sources they care to.
Teams will have from 10am Saturday until 4pm Sunday, with judging on visualisations happening between 4pm-6pmSunday evening. The winners will be announced at 6pm on Sunday, and awarded prizes and further support todevelop their ideas.
All apps will be uploaded and blogged about on data.gov.uk, BBC Backstage and the MDDA websites.
