Team USA’s 1980 gold-medal-winning Miracle on Ice squad was led by four Boston University Terriers, including captain Mike Eruzione and starting goaltender Jim Craig. That inspired the first generation of Hockey East superstars, like BC’s Bri-an Leetch and BU’s Keith Tkachuk, who would go on to dominate international tournaments for much of the 1990s and lead a group including eight former Hockey East players to capture the silver medal for Team USA at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City.

Boston University’s Kevin Shattenkirk and New Hamp-shire’s James van Riemsdyk represented Team USA at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, British Columbia, helping the U.S. bring home the silver medal.
