Who says a lack of space is reason not to pursue your passions (aka hobbies)? As
these homes show, you can carve out space for something you love, whether you
live in a landed house, condominium or HDB flat. Here are the most popular hobby
spaces that homeowners commissioned special designs for, on Houzz.
1. Home bars
Home bars are the most popular space – probably because you can squeeze one
into a kitchen cabinet, as in this photo.

This semi-detached home’s attic is a dedicated entertaining space, with well-
stocked wine fridges.
An apartment’s breakfast
counter easily doubles as a
bar when you have duly-
supplied shelves.

2. Home cinemas
Home theatres or cinemas come in a far second to home bars, but those with an
extra room certainly splurge on an entertainment centre…
…some even buy recliners just for their viewing pleasure.

3. Home gyms
These homeowners are serious about their workouts – look at their home gyms!
From the fully equipped, mirror-walled gym in a landed house, to a spare room in a
HDB flat that’s been converted into a relaxing yoga retreat, having a home gym
means no excuses for missing a workout!

Don’t knock this modern-day music room, located in the basement of a landed

6. Game room
We were expecting to see more game (read: mahjong) rooms from Singapore
homes; but mahjong is so convenient – there are folding mahjong tables! – that
nobody seems to have designed one yet…
