The objective of the S.U.R.E campaign is to maximise awareness of information literacy through the building blocks “Source, Understand, Research, Evaluate” to our target audiences who range from youths (Secondary 1 onwards) to working adults (age 20s-50s). The campaign hopes to achieve 5 million interactions. This includes both online interactions (such as number of resource downloads from S.U.R.E portal and number of likes and shares on S.U.R.E social media sites), as well as offline/real-life interactions that include number of participants trained/ outreached and number of S.U.R.E activities completed by students.

Our logo is symbolic of being able to see through information clutter. The image of a cloud is a friendly visual stand-in for information haze, while the acronym, S.U.R.E., in the middle represents ‘cut-through’. The colour blue is chosen to represent clarity, while the clean, rounded typeface selection complements the cloud design. Each letter of the acronym is explained below the cloud.

News Reports

24 October 2013 Berita Harian, Pg 2 “‘S.U.R.E.’ is correct and accurate” by Ervina Mohd Jamil The National Library Board (NLB) has launched an initiative to help the public better understand and evaluate information and distinguish trustworthy sources from non-trustworthy ones. The S.U.R.E campaign introduces four easy steps: Source ,Understand, Research and Evaluate. The article quoted Mrs Elaine Ng, Chief Executive Officer, NLB, who mentioned the importance to know how to distinguish between fact, fiction and opinion. One of the S.U.R.E club members from St Patrick’s School, Muhammad Nile Zaffar, mentioned that the S.U.R.E technique is easy to use and apply to help him in his school projects. NLB has also worked with Mr Johnny Lau, the creator of the Mr Kiasu comic series to produce a new Mr Kiasu comic for the S.U.R.E campaign.

News Reports

24th Oct 2013 LianHe Zaobao, Pg 13 “Singapore launches information literacy programme” by Hu Jiemei Zaobao reported the launch of "SURE", a national information literacy programme by the NLB. The goal of SURE is to raise awareness for information literacy and make fact-checking a natural habit among the public. NLB spokesman Wan Wee Pin said the NLB has worked with the Chinese Development Assistance Council, and placed publicity posters (including Chinese editions) have been placed at newsstands, food centres, etc, in order to reach people of all ages. To reach students, 700 teachers have been trained so far to weave information literacy principles into their class work, and "SURE clubs" have been set up in 24 schools where students investigate common myths and rumours from various sources. Besides a new website and a Facebook page, the NLB has also collaborated with Mr Kiasu author Johnny Lau and Epigram Books to raise awareness of the SURE technique.

Radio Coverage

23 October 2013, Warna 94.2FM (1.35pm) S.u.r.e. Programme

With plenty of information available on the internet, mobile phones and social media, one should be able to intelligently process all

this information to avoid confusion. To help the public, especially students, to research and evaluate information, the National

Library Board (NLB) launched the S.U.R.E. programme to help people obtain and understand the correct information. Librarian, Ms

Faridah Ibrahim, mentioned that NLB has also worked with schools to introduce the S.U.R.E. programme to teachers and students

and now they aim to share the programme to the public as well. Two new books in the “Sherlock Sam” and “Triple Nine Sleuths”

series carry the S.U.R.E. campaign message.

23 October 2013, 93.8 LIVE News (5pm) How do you tell the gurus from the 'gundus' National Library Board has the answer The National Library Board (NLB) has launched S.U.RE., a four step campaign to teach the public to become more literate when consuming information. S.U.R.E. stands for Source, Research, Research and Evaluate. Deputy Director, National Library (Engagement), Wan Wee Pin said that with the avalanche of information we receive on a daily basis, there is a sense of complacency and uncertainty as to whether the information we come across can be believed. The campaign is part of the National Info-Literacy campaign. NLB has been working with MOE to help students apply S.U.R.E. principles, and is now extending this to the national level, through toolkits and an online portal where members of the public can access resources to learn more about S.U.R.E. Plans for 2014

• To expand our current suite of IL resources to include multi-lingual resources (Chinese, Malay , Tamil)

•To develop bite-size e-learn modules to park in SURE portal so that members of the public can learn in their own time at their own pace (eg module teaching how to cite resources) •To pilot a curated learning journey (an advanced IL workshop for students)
