8ince this activity was done during the first week of the practicumers in the

barangay they were not familiar with the members of the BDC. There was a scheduled

BDC meeting last November -/ -/!0 which was attended by the former members of the

BDC and - members from the upcoming one. The first scheduled meeting was not

finished because the former members suggested to schedule and conduct another meeting

with the new set of barangay officials which was done on the ne(t day. During the

meeting on November -! -/!0 there were some activities that cannot be discussed andelaborated since the needed collaborators were the BN8 and BH9 who were not around

in the meeting.

The practicumers presented the formulated activities and programs to the

Barangay Captain in a different schedule and it was conducted in his house. A separate

Two days prior to the activity the practicumers coordinated with the BN8 regarding the

schedule and venue of the activity. The practicumers also requested the feeding program to

be center-based instead of dry rationing in order to eecute the nutrition education

program planned for the participants. The resources that the BN8 and BDC can provide were

also identified. These include the transportation venue manpower and consumable supplies

2e.g.6anna rice other ingredients and disposable utensils and cups. The participants were then

identified and an invitation to the participants was done right after the meeting.

4t was agreed by the practicumers and the BN8 to conduct the feeding program in

a center&based form. However not everybody in the list given by the BN8 was able to

attend since most of them are students. Those who were not reached by the center-based

feeding received their daily food supply still through dry ration.

Out of 16 participants, 11 were

aged 2 to 5 and the last five were aged 6

to 11. The nutrition education strategy

for the day was storytelling using a large

colored and illustrated children’s boo.

This was used since the participants

belong to wide range of ages !2-12

years". #$parting i$ages, actions and

sounds would do to co$pensate the age

gaps. %fter the story telling co$es ne&t

for the children.

Then, for the last activity which also served as a review or recap for the

participants, uestionnaires !%ppendi& " were distributed to the children. The

uestionnaires contained i$ages of different nutritious and non-nutritious foods and the

participants are to identify and put circle on the nutritious foods. Twelve participants

were able to get perfect scores. The re$aining four were not able to answer the post-test

since they cannot still write and answer the uestionnaires. The $others helped their

The nutrition education $aterials that can be used for the feeding progra$ were

endorsed to the '(). This includes the boo that was used for storytelling as well as

videos and $usic about proper food choices. The group had also given a cooboo

co$prising of rice-based recipes since there had been a te$porary disappearance of

entury Tuna supply and only +anna 0ice was provided.

Pr'e,s E!$/!*ered a!d Less!s Lear!ed"

The program aimed to introduce new recipes of Century Tuna for the feeding program.

#owever$ during the duration of %ommunity Nutrition &ield 'ractice$ %entury Tunatemporarily stopped providing supplies to the barangay and gave them to (olanda

victims instead. )ecause of this$ for the mean time$ the practicumers did not insist on

changing the regular recipes mainly using the *anna +ice that the )N, had been using

since the tuna rations had stopped. The practicumers learned to be fle(ible adapting to the

communitys situation learning about their limitations and potentials utili:ing resources and

 being resourceful.

uring the actual i$ple$entation, $ost of the children were ust watching. (one

would answer the story teller’s uestions unless the $others around would assist the$.

This was $ainly because they were still too young or were ust shy to spea. The group

learned to adust for the audience eeping the energy up3 catching and $aintaining their

attention3 involving the children as $uch as possible. %lso, the activity !uestionnaires"

was not appropriate for the age of so$e of the participants. #n the end, 12 out of 16 were

able to answer the uestionnaires.

Another challenge was the call to continue the program in a center&based manner. The problem was with the schedule of the BN8 and the schedule of the practicumers

other activities. During the end of the year the BN8 was very busy with her reports

gatherings and also with her health condition. The group learned here to ad;ust and

negotiate to be able to meet half way with the BN8.

8/12/2019 Hnf198 Terminal Report

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/hnf198-terminal-report 7/53

The BN8 needed a space as feeding area. However there had been a problem

regarding the coordination with the BDC. The group learned that the BN8 works for her

love to the community. 8he had been giving more than what she had been receiving.

Community work really re>uires one to have a heart for the people a selfless one indeed.

or the unresponsive audience it is recommended that the profile of the

participants should be gathered before deciding what nutrition education strategy and

activity is to be used to find a better match for the participants.

8ince some political issues were involved the practicumers should bridge the gap

in between the officials by involving them into the activities especially with the

 preparations.

Before the seminar proper lecture handout was given to the resource speaker to

serve as her guide for the discussion. However during the seminar proper the topics

discussed were not concise. The practicumers were not able to give the resource speaker

specific topics.

The practicumers learned that the specific topics should be clarified with the

resource speaker so that in the seminar proper there will be a smooth flow of the

discussion instead of many topics that can be easily forgotten by the participants. Also

several mothers in Barangay Aplaya have misbeliefs about deworming that should be

corrected through different programs such as seminars.

Re$,,e!da*!s"

At least a day before the activity the specific topics to be discussed should be

should also conduct research and read some articles about the topic that can be added

,ooking for an instructor became a problem to the group. The municipal Gumba

instructor could not be found whenever the group would go to the municipal office. 4n the

end a known instructor around the barangay was found and was hired with the help of

the barangay health councilor. The group learned that for the activities that were being

remind the Barangay Development Council officials that would be involved.

Another identified problem for this activity was the venue. The venue was

supposed to be in front of the barangay hall but unfortunately it had to be changed

Thirteen mothers were oriented about the  Pabasa sa Nutrisyon. The group

After the orientation the mothers were given the pre&test. 'nly 0!K or 7 out of

reading and writing because she also wanted to learn.

The first session of Pabasa sa Nutrisyon was started after the pre&test since it was

only an introduction and was done for ;ust a short period of time. The session was all

about the three basic food groups and balanced diet. The mothers were still shy to raise

their hands and answer the >uestions since they were still in the phase of ad;ustment. un

learning activity entitled 6arket @ame ! was played by the mothers. The group had

And to test if they had learned a game was done and this was entitled ABC game for

the first topic and $adamihan for the second one.

The group had observed that the mothers still had confusions between iron and

iodine since some of the symptoms were interchanged for the two. A recap was made

after the game to clarify the confusions noted.

DAY 7

The session was started with a review of the previous discussion form the last
