1 May 2013 Do Now: Is there a beast on the island? If not, what do the boys have to be afraid of? If so, what is the nature of this beast? Happy May Day! In the last class you learned about Freudian psychology and discussed the ways in which the main characters in Lord of the Flies represent the id, ego, and superego. Today we will continue to discuss Lord of the Flies as a psychological allegory by discussing the beast before discussing the ways in which the characters embody common archetypes.
