Sometimes a group of people can be united in one purpose and still fail miserably. One of my favorite stories in the New Testament is found in Acts 19 when Paul enters into the city of Ephesus for the first time. The city of Ephesus was a mess to say the least, when Paul arrived. Not only was the worship of Greek Gods prevalent, but also practices of witchcraft and sorcery as well. How could the Gospel prevail in a place where Satan has such a firm hold on it? Verse 11 tells us that God was working incredible miracles through Paul. Even clothing that Paul had touched was being passed around Ephesus, and everyone who touched it was healed. Due to Paul's great success a group of Jews decided to attempt to cast out demons through the name of Jesus Christ. All united in purpose, these seven Jews attempted to cast out a demon from a man in the name of Jesus Christ. The demon answered them "Jesus I know, and Paul I know about, but who are you?" One single demon possessed man beat these seven Jews so horribly they ran away naked and bleeding. The image is both disturbing and amusing, but the message is so significant! Due to the failure of these men and the success of Paul the people in Ephesus burned all their sorcerous scrolls, and they held the name of Jesus in high regard. The lesson the people learned is that it is God that has all power. A group of men may be able to do some impressive things in a lifetime, but Jesus said a man cannot even take a single hair from his head, and through will power change its color. We only become successful as a team, and as a church when Christ dwells in us. If we are not living out God's purpose then we will surely fail. However, if we do his will, and let Christ work through us, the spreading of His Gospel will be an unstoppable force, and if we cling to Christ, the unmovable object, we will not be moved. The Power of Team Work

Mankind has produced incredible feats over thousands of years. When you look at accomplish-ments like the Great Wall of China or the Pyramids of Giza it's easy to be amazed at what a group of humans can do. However, team work is not always successful. Sometimes a group of people can be united in one purpose and still fail miserably.
