DESCRIPTION

A well defined clinical protocol strikes a balance between evidence based standards and practical delivery of medical care; while addressing the needs of a clinician and compliance officer at the hospital. Calance presented a solution at HIMSS 2013 to automate clinical protocols using existing data warehouse. Our approach allows the hospitals to define the protocols at department level and use a rule engine for detecting deviations.

Clinical Protocols

Evidence based medicine, outcomes focused medicine, pay for performance – all are based on the use of standardized clinical work flows.

Protocols are the framework of assessment, diagnosis and treatment – they provide decision logic and parameters – but are secondary to the actual decision making of the clinician.

Extensive literature exists to substantiate the value of care guidelines or protocols

Our Approach

Cohort Analysis

Technology should support the protocols that providers prioritize in the form and using the data THEY determine is important.

EMRs and Quality Monitoring cannot be flexible and specific enough for emerging pathways and protocols.

Provide real time physician feedback on protocols – integrated with workflow so that they can take action.

Data Collection

Identify the data required & choose the reporting mechanism

Local definition of protocol

Map the data from Amalga

Provide an aggregated view

Alerts & Feedback, Patient Chart, Orders
