HILLARYS PRIMARY SCHOOL
NEWSLETTER
Week 8 - TUESDAY, 16th June 2020
Principal’s Pen .
Building Projects and Improvements
This year, we have placed a significant emphasis on what we would like to improve and refresh
at Hillarys PS. Our direction and many visible changes have stemmed from the feedback
provided by students, staff and the school community.
This term the leadership and administrative team created a portfolio and powerpoint presentation
to share our vision with DoE representatives. This process has been influential in developing
momentum and support for positive change at Hillarys PS.
The new staff toilets, block area upgrades, concertina door replacements and new classroom flooring have been part of this ongoing improvement process. In addition to this, we have recently been advised that our kindergarten buildings will be replaced in readiness for 2021. This is very exciting news for early childhood teaching and learning at Hillarys PS.
Semester 1 Reporting
Teachers are finalising reports at the moment. While there will be no grades or attendance data,
teachers will be writing comments for key learning areas. Reports will be emailed out on
Wednesday 1 July. Please contact the office if your email address has changed recently or you
have not been receiving emails from the school.
School Development Day – Term 3
Our next School Development Day (Pupil Free Day) will be held on the first day of Term 3; Monday July 20. All School Development Days (Pupil Free Days) are approved by the School Board.
Cross-country Faction Carnival - Friday June 19
Thank you to Mrs Armstrong for her outstanding organisation of this event. Please read the separate letter recently sent home to parents which outlines event times, organisational details and procedures for spectators. I hope all students will try their personal best and earn valuable points for their faction at the same time.
Community Engagement – School Board
Our next School Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, 30 June at 6:30 pm in the school library. Agenda: School Culture, Community Survey Results, Policy Updates and Sub-committees.

Celebration
Congratulations to Mrs Sheriff for winning the EdConnect Coordi-
nator of the Year Award. Formally known as the School Volun-
teer Program, EdConnect Australia provides the school with
trained mentors to support students to be more engaged in their
education. Well done Tracey!
Mentors are a sounding board, guiding hand or someone to talk
to. They are young or old with life experiences and knowledge
that can assist students to manage the many obstacles they may face at school or within their
family or community.
Mentors are people who are non-judgemental and willing to offer support, guidance and en-couragement. Screening processes are required for all mentors.
Celebrating Cleaners Day, 15 June 2020
On Monday, across Australia, school cleaners were recognised and celebrated for the incredi-
ble work they have done to keep our school safe and clean throughout the COVID-19 pandem-
ic.
We are extremely grateful to the wonderful, dedicated cleaning team at Hillarys Primary School. Our team have all worked above and beyond expectations to ensure the learning envi-ronments, bathrooms, high traffic areas and playgrounds have been cleaned thoroughly in or-der to keep us all safe and healthy. Thank you!
Thank you to our MCS

Kindy Enrolments are now open for 2021.
If you child is born between 1st July 2016 and 30th June 2017, and you wish to
Enrol, please contact the front office for the correct Enrolment forms.
Sick Students
Thanks to the significant numbers of families who have kept their unwell chil-
dren at home. We appreciate that it is often difficult to determine ‘how unwell’ a
child is and therefore whether to send him or her to school.
If children have a fever, have vomited or have had an upset stomach that
morning or the previous night, they should not be at school.
Sending unwell children to school heightens the chance of others becoming sick, including
staff; which can then impact the continuity of the teaching and learning program for all stu-
dents. Advice through the Department of Health provides the following information for fami-
lies:
• children should stay at home if they are likely to be infectious and spread the virus or bacte-
ria through coughing, sneezing, contaminating surfaces and personal contact
• children who are still ill should not return to school while unwell; they should be symptom
free if they have a cold or flu; and remain at home for at least 24 hours if they have had gas-
troenteritis
• parents are encouraged to seek medical advice if their child has ongoing symptoms of ill-
ness.
Further resources regarding Influenza are available at HeathyWA and Preventing Flu and
Other Respiratory Infections.
Have a great week everyone!
Yours truly

HELP US CONTINUE BUILDING
INDEPENDENCE
We are enjoying a smooth and calm start to
each day with students and teachers enjoy-
ing uninterrupted quality time before the
siren to start the learning day.
It has been wonderful to watch your chil-
dren unpack their own bag and getting
ready for the day.
Let’s work together to con-tinue this!
HELP US KEEP OUR
SCHOOL SAFE
To align with DoE regulations, our
school playgrounds need to be
cleaned.
We need to continue with no playing on
equipment before and after school.
LET’S BE PARTNERS
Build on the positives.
Keep the independence and resilience going!
We’ve got this!
Remember – social distancing is still a thing!

NEW STAFF TOILET BLOCK
An exciting day for all at HPS, when the big truck arrived, and squeezed into Lym-
burner Drive holding the new staff toilet block.
The ooooo’s and ahhhhh’s were heard from all the students watching the crane lift the
block up from the truck and swing it into position, and the applaud and cheers were
appreciated by the fantastic team working on the installation.
More photos to follow, when open and ready for staff use.

Term 2, Week 7
With Winter upon us….
At Camp Australia, we’re experts at having fun, regardless of what’s happening with the weather. Rain, hail or
shine we always have fun, with engaging and enriching activities on offer for all ages of children to participate in! If
there is a loved activity that we have missed for some reason, please let us know.
Still in these difficult times…
Child care is still provided free of charge until 30th June as per the Federal Government's announcement on the
2nd April. Whilst care is free, we still need to know if you are coming. We ask that you get your bookings in as
soon as you can. It’s first in, first served! If you have any issues in booking in your child, please make contact with
us!
Outdoor Play:
Even though the season is turning, we are still requesting from parents and encouraging the children to wear a
wide brim hat while playing outside.
Reconciliation Week:
We had a wonderful 2 weeks of Reconciliation Week. We have looked in depth into the culture of our Native Aus-
tralians and have covered activities such as music, food, outdoor games and arts. Please see our displays on the
fence, as well as our entrance gate.
Drop Off / Pick Up:
We are still in the process in keeping parents/carers out of our centre room. Parents are allowed inside the gate
but not allowed to pass the Yellow line infront of the Kindy entrance.
Incursions for Term 3 and Term 4:
We are happy to announce that we are in the process of planning wonderful incursions, for in Term 3 and Term 4.
More details will be provided closer to the date. We are asking for your help in collecting plastic 1.25L bottles for
one of our upcoming incursions.
Incursion on 15th
June 2020:
We were very privileged to receive a visit from an ex – Australian Army soldier. He provided us with great insight
in the life of an Army soldier. The children were very excited and bombarded him with very interesting questions.
Thank you to Cameron in arranging this incursion for us.
If you as parent have any input that you would like to share with us, please contact us at the service.
We look forward to seeing you and your family soon, From the Friendly Team at Camp Australia Anna, Cameron and Jessica
