PlaceYour

Our students say that they’ve found their Place here. Whether

they’re rehearsing their lines with classmates on the Hill-Murray

stage, sharing lunch with friends in the cafeteria, or ministering

with fellow students on a service project off campus, Hill-Murray

students are connected, joined together by a sense of Place.

They belong here. This is their home away from home. This is

their safe haven. This is their Place.

We invite you to find your Place here at Hill-Murray.

academics

We prepare students to succeed in college. Our coursework is rigorous and the bar is set high. Our students work hard. But, they get the support they need to achieve their academic goals. Students are placed in course levels depending on their strengths and learning styles. Honors courses in math, science, English, social studies, world languages, music and religion are available. They have the option to earn college credit through Advanced Placement courses in Calculus I and II, English, Music Theory, Statistics & Probability and U.S. History.

Our graduates go on to some of the finest colleges and universities in the country.

Mark Santrach ’09 was the 2014 Valedictorian for the University of Notre Dame. He said Hill-Murray not only prepared him for college but propelled him to the highest level of achievement.

“I came to Notre Dame with 25 college credits and was able to test out of classes, which allowed me to move right into course that interested me and were part of my major,’’ said Mark. “I was familiar with a college-level workload and already understood what it took to get my work done. Hill-Murray prepared me to succeed at Notre Dame.’’

"The ultimate satisfaction for our coaching staff is witnessing the process of a team finding its own personality, its own bond, its own place.

Success can’t happen without it."

athletics

Hill-Murray athletes repeatedly come home with honors from conference, section and state appearances and championships. But, it is character for which Hill-Murray athletes are widely respected.

Whether it’s in a game, on the sidelines, in the classroom or out in the world, our student athletes are held to the highest standards. They’re taught that team comes before individual. They’re taught to win with grace and to lose with dignity. They’re taught to shake hands with their opponent when the game is over – whether they've won or lost.

The discipline they learn at Hill-Murray helps prepare them for the next step. Academic requirements ensure that our athletes are well-rounded and learn to live a life that is balanced.

Being a Pioneer means putting your best effort forward in everything you do.

student life"I was nervous at first about going to Hill-Murray. I always loved theatre so decided to give it a try here. It was the best decision. I have met so many awesome people. I knew right way that this is where I belonged, that it was MY Place. I have grown as a person and as a leader. I found my confidence on the Hill-Murray stage, but now it’s a part of me wherever I go."

Our academic rigor is balanced by the learning support services

provided through The Nicholas Center. Here, students receive

individualized assessment and are provided with a plan that meets

their learning needs and works with their learning styles.

Learning specialists in The Nicholas Center customize learning

programs for those students who need additional support in reading,

math, writing, as well as organizational and study skills.

Students get help in studying for tests, taking notes, setting

priorities and managing their time. As their self-esteem grows, they

learn to advocate for themselves and take responsibility for their

own learning. The program is set as a series of building blocks that

eventually result in strong, confident young people with the tools

they need to succeed in college and beyond.

“School is kind of a struggle but the teachers

in The Nicholas Center help me stay on task.

When I get all of my work turned in, I feel relieved and then I can focus on other things like football

and friends.’’ Ray, ’19

Your

faith & service

We invite students of all faiths to explore, develop and deepen their relationship with God. Navigating through our world can be confusing and frightening, especially for a young person. We can help you find your Place here. We can help you get grounded and set yourself on a path that leads to a life of serving and honoring God in all you do.

Masses, prayer services and spiritual retreats allow students to explore, contemplate and celebrate their faith. Our Campus Ministry team, along with members of our Peer Ministry, is always ready to guide and support.

Our faith in centered on treating others as Jesus would. In that spirit, we have spread our arms wide. We help the homeless, care for the elderly and provide resources to the poor and vulnerable. We work with inner-city school children and visit hospital patients. We raise money to aid those who are physically and mentally disabled. And, because we are stewards of God’s earth, we are part of programs that protect and preserve the environment.

At Hill-Murray, students are required to participate in community service experiences. In doing so, serving others becomes a part of who they are; it becomes a life-long habit.

Our students are accepted into some of the finest colleges and universities all over the country.

Here's a snapshot of where some of our Pioneers ended up after graduation!

PIONEERING the Future!

Page 10: Hill-Murray School

A Hill-Murray education is an incredibly valuable investment that reaps rewards long after your student graduates.

Not only do Hill-Murray graduates leave here with a deeper understanding of self, God and community, they have the skills needed to succeed in a challenging world. Once a Pioneer, they are connected to generations of graduates bonded together by faith, family and friendship.

With service at our core, Hill-Murray has created generations of alumni who are making a difference. In our neighborhood, across the state, throughout the country and around the world, our graduates can be found feeding the hungry, building shelter for the homeless and caring for the poor and vulnerable.

Academically, our graduates have an advantage. Alums come back and tell us that the knowledge they gained in critical thinking and writing – especially -- have set them apart from their college peers and allowed them to advance more quickly to achieve their academic goals. Alums regularly tell of how they were able to forego college prerequisites and jump right into their major areas of study. Fewer college courses mean fewer college dollars.

Financial rewards of a Hill-Murray education also come in the form of college scholarships. In 2014, our graduates were offered more than $8 million in scholarships. Colleges and universities have spoken: Hill-Murray graduates are wanted! And, post-secondary institutions are willing to pay to get our students to join their ranks.

As members of the Hill-Murray community, graduates go out into the world rooted to a community grounded in the same values. This community wraps its arms around its members and takes Pioneer Pride in stepping up and showing its support. Once a Pioneer, Always a Pioneer.
