Education
Akshaya Vidya: The ‘Akshaya Vidya’ programme which provides holistic education to the
children in slum areas with a view to change their life by inculcating good values and self-
image in the society has commenced in 60 centres located in the slum areas of
Visakhapatnam (20 centres), Hyderabad (25 centres) and YSR Kadapa (15 centres)
Districts through the Ekalavya Foundation. Through the above project supplementary
classes are provided for children of 1st to 6th standards for a duration 2 hours per day at
the slum areas.
‘Siksha’: With a view that ‘Education is a key enabler to social change’, RINL is providing
quality education to 1600 students belonging to BPL families from the surrounding villages
of Plant and Mines.
Health Care
Mid-day meal to School Children: “Classroom hunger affects children’s ability to learn
and grow”. RINL, with a view to mitigate hunger and malnutrition, has taken up a project
for providing mid-day meal to the poor and needy children of the Visakha vimala Vidyalayas
at Ukkunagaram and Pedagantyada as a CSR initiative. A MoU has been inked with The
Akshaya Patra Foundation, the house hold name in mid-day meal sector, for providing hot
and nutritious mid-day meal to the needy children in both the above schools for a period of
one year from 1st November 2019. RINL has also taken up a project for providing
infrastructural support to the Akshaya Patra Foundation’s centralized kitchen at
Visakhapatnam

Manakosam’ Community CCTV surveillance system
RINL as a responsible corporate has joined hands with Visakhapatnam City Police for
installation of Community CCTV surveillance system at identified locations around the Plant
at Visakhapatnam as a CSR initiative. The initial payment has been released to the
Visakhapatnam City Police for commencing the installation. The initiative will help in
reduction of crime against women and enhance their safety and security 24X7 thus directly
contributing to women empowerment.
Sanitation
Water purifiers at Annavaram: Shri .VV Venugopal Rao, Director (Finance), RINL,
inaugurated the Water Purifiers with Chillers installed at eight identified places in the
premises of Annavaram temple as a CSR initiative of RINL. The project is benefitting
thousands of poor pilgrims and visitors to the shrine to quench the thirst.
Swachh Vidyalaya: Maintenance of toilets constructed in 32 schools under “Swachh
Vidyalaya” has been taken up through Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) Govt. of AP for a further
period of one year i.e. August’2019 to July 2020. The toilets are maintained by respective
School Management Committees and periodic visits are made to the schools to ensure
proper maintenance of the same for better utilization.

Swachh Bharat activities were carried out in various Departments of VSP during the
Month. Daily Reports on “Swachh Bharat” Campaign received from plant areas are
compiled and sent to Ministry of Steel (MOS)

Swachhta Puraskar: During the 150th birthday celebration of Mahatma Gandhi at RINL
on 2nd October 2019, Shri P.K.Rath, CMD, RINL, presented ‘Swachhta Puraskars’ to 15
departments recognizing their contribution towards achieving higher levels of
cleanliness at RINL

‘Safai Pakhwada’: Fortnight long intensive cleaning drives were organized in the Town
Administration Department during first fortnight and SED, CED, Plant Design and Technical
Services departments during the second fortnight of October 2019 respectively.
