TRANSCRIPT
Last week we held two open events to welcome prospective pupils and parents to our school. This is an
important event in the school calendar and my heartfelt thanks to all the staff and pupils who showcased our
school brilliantly. I also want to thank parents from the Parents Association who not only provided delicious
refreshments but also were on standby to offer warm and encouraging advice to prospective parents.
All years have been busy with more events than ever. From a huge array of sports matches and tournaments in
Years 7-11, auditions and now rehearsals for Little Shop of Horrors, enrichments activities to theatre trips and
competitions.
Our enrichment programme is now in full flow. This year our enrichment programme will continue to operate
in two cycles; September 2018 – February 2019 (half term) and thereafter February 2019 –July 2019. There are
opportunities throughout the week from Monday-Thursday after school from 4.00-5.00pm focusing on Creative
& Performing Arts and Sports. On a Friday afternoon 2.10-3.30pm there are a wide range of activities on offer.
We recognise that not every child will have their chosen preference in Cycle 1 but we will do our best to make
sure that their preferences are taken into account for Cycle 2.
Equally, our Sixth Form students have started their first term with enthusiasm and energy and have been
extremely busy with educational trips to give an insight into future educational options of University and careers
and a recent, very successful Cake Sale to raise money for the 'Women of Wandsworth' group.
Thank you again for your patience regarding our IT systems; all parents should now have received notification
from us with regard to your Wisepay accounts. Please do ensure that you log in to your account for your child
as we will be backdating charges accrued from this last term.
Have a restful and enjoyable half term break, we look forward to welcoming you all back for the Autumn 2
term.

Friday afternoon saw our first Week B Enrichment session. Pupils took part in a huge range of
activities designed and delivered by our staff. These ranged from running to set design, coding to
street dance! It was a pleasure to see all of our pupils so engaged and trying something new. We
would also like to say well done to our year 12 and 13s for supporting in the enrichment
sessions and using this time to build relationships with the lower school. It has been a great start
to the enrichment cycle this term and we are looking forward to seeing our pupils develop and
refine their skills in new areas.

It has been a very close and hard fought half term in the run up to the House Spirit Day. The year 7 Oddono's ice cream competition being won by Victor Guihaire (making him the second highest house point earner in the winning house, behind Darcey Hanson by only one point) and Ms Gelder's year 8's contributing the most house points per pupil of any Civitas so far this half term (closely followed by Mr Savile's group). All this has meant, that I can announce this half terms winner as ... Klein house! and as such they were rewarded with a non-uniform day and a special pudding on Thursday 18th October. Below are the house point totals this half term and when you consider there is around 170 pupils per house, there is only a few house points per pupil in the race at the moment, so all is still to play for!
1st - Klein 19431 2nd - Erskine 18628 3rd - Verbiest 17993 4th - Smyth 16286

News from Maths
Happy half term to all of our pupils! It’s been an incredibly full-on start to the academic year, with pupils
working right up to the end of assessment week on lots of new material. We’ve been particularly im-
pressed by the way Year 11 have started this all important year and wish them well in their upcoming
mock exams.
Congratulations to our new Year 7’s who have successfully completed their first half term at Bolingbroke
and also to our new Year 12 students rising to the challenge of sixth form. All Year 12 maths students are
making an amazing contribution to promoting maths within the school by helping within lessons and are
impressing with their leadership qualities – keep up the good work!
Year 11 Additional Maths
We will be running an Additional Maths group for our
Year 11 pupils on Wednesday at 4pm.
The club will offer pupils the opportunity to look at extra
maths problems to help stretch their thinking. Any pupils
that were part of the programme in Year 10 have been
invited along.
Don’t forget that your child can log into www.ttrockstars.com
to do lots of practise and build their rock star status. Our sub-
scription means that they can also download the app for their
phone or tablet.
CGP Revision Guide
With the mocks about to begin and the
students having nearly finished the GCSE
course it is time that our Year 11 students
start preparing for their GCSE exams next
summer. The Maths department have
purchased revision guides, exam practice
work books and some practice papers for
the new 9-1 system. It is essential that
students start the revision process and this
bundle is a great resource.
Packs are priced at £7.50. Parent Puzzle 2
How many integers are greater than 20 + 18 and also less than
20 x 18? Email entries with the title “Parent Puzzle 1” to
Correct entries, as ever, are placed into a termly prize draw to win
Maths equipment for your child – and a treat for you!
The solution to Puzzle 1- 10!
Hegarty Maths is a new and improved version of the revision website set up by Colin Hegarty (who was a finalist in the
Global Teacher Prize). His website is designed to support pupils to be independent. Every task has a video explanation
and links to other “building block” tasks to support pupils to be successful. We launched this last year and we’ve been
really impressed with the response of our pupils. We have decided that all our students will be set an online homework on
the Hegarty Maths platform every other week. Sometimes this will be more than one task. We think that this will be a
particularly useful tool for us as it is designed by teachers so all of the feedback we get about the pupils’ work helps us to
help them. There is a guide attached to website to give more information on how to support your child in the use of He-
garty Maths.
After All Year 10 pupils should log in to www.hegartymaths.com (using their school, name and date of birth) for weekly revision and
practice. There are useful videos and the opportunity to comment to their teacher as well if they find any task challenging.

(y9), Ludo Cuenat (y8), Pooja Barabino (y7) and Amari Brampton (y7) took part in the Wandsworth Prima-
ry and Secondary Boccia Competition at Burntwood school. They were competing against lots of other
Wandsworth Schools in this exciting inclusive sport. After some very close heats the team came first overall
meaning they will be invited to compete for their borough in future events.
Ms Wilson, Mr Rands and Ms Charan were very proud of the students and their
sportsmanship towards the other teams.
Well Done Bolingbroke!

Y9 Rugby vs ARK Putney Academy
The Rugby season begun with a big victory over ARK Putney Academy. Straight from kick off there were a lot of
yards being made by strong running from Frankie Hutchon and Louis Day. After 4 tries were run in quick
succession ARK Putney had a good spell in attack. We defended with heart and passion with some thunderous
tackles being put in by Sam Clacher. In the middle phase of the game Bolingbroke’s dominance began to tell
with Yvan Digbeu making some lambasting runs and crunching tackles. This was followed up by some great
footwork and some great linebreaks being made by electric fullback Ellis Roff. The base of the ruck and scrum
was well controlled by Felix Halton who was fizzing passes around for the backs and forwards to attack.
The substitutes came on and had a tremendous impact in attack and defence with Regan Tahi and Sebastain
Flori contributing well to the team. Regan showed great pace to get himself over the line for a try. Special
mentions must go to Bolingbroke Rugby debutants: Blaine Russell and Raphael Taylor for great
performances.
Tries: Frankie Hutchon, Sam Clacher, Yvan Digbeu, Regan Tahi, Blaine Russell, Paul Kerambrun,
Ellis Roff.
U15 Football vs Ernest Bevin School
Year 9/10 Football team fought valiantly during a narrow 2-1 loss to Ernest Bevin on Wednesday. The match
was hanging in the balance, with the score being 0-0 at half time due to some solid defensive work by Day-Jon
and Jack Hedges at the back. Equally, the midfield was the battling ground for several midfield duels, with the
strength of Bolingbroke exemplified by Emir's constant work rate and Michael's swift passing. Zafir provided
needed width from his role at wing back with Skender and Fred consistently winning balls further up the pitch.
After conceding two unfortunate goals early in the second half, Bolingbroke fought back to 2-1 thanks to a coolly
taken penalty by Yvan. A solid performance by the team with many positives as the team embark on a league
campaign.

Careers and University Success update
Are you in year 11? Have you thought about the next steps after GCSE’s? Make sure you book an appointment
with Ms Robinson to discuss your options.
Reminders
Year 10 will be planning their work experience over this academic year and will be out on work experience from
Mon 2nd Sept – Fri 6th Sept 2019. Please keep this in mind when booking holidays for next summer 2019.
Work shadowing will take place for year 10 on Tuesday 5th February 2019.
Year 10 will be sitting the Morrisby Careers assessment in January – cost is £26.
Year 12 University planning
Preparation has already started to focus the minds of our
year 12 students, especially those that have their sights on
Oxbridge, Medicine or Vet Science. 20 students visited King’s
College London last night to launch the Elephant Access pro-
ject which forms part of our programme to ensure that stu-
dents get to the university they most deserve regardless of
their background.
The students had the opportunity to learn about the path to
university and join other students from other schools to
learn about university life, what it takes to get in, how to
choose subjects and the things they will need to do between
now and complet-
ing Sixth Form to
stand a good chance of receiving an offer at a top university. They met
and Oxford Admissions tutor and 2 current Oxford students along with
having the opportunity to question to current King’s College London
students.
There will be a number of events, tutorials and holiday schools through-
out the year to help prepare our students for the application and inter-
view process.
Please make sure your child has access to Show My Homework as most
activities will be advertised this way.
Year 12 students must make sure they have started taking part in extra-
curricular activities this year in order to ensure they can show their pas-
sion for learning and their subject in their UCAS applications. One vital
element of this is for students with Medicine and Vet Science aspirations
to have gained relevant work experience.
Speak to Ms Robinson for support and look out for the opportunities
on offer. Congratulations to Yahya Miah who has already won himself a
place on the Sutton Trust’s Pathway to Law programme with
Roehampton University and the LSE.

Theatre Group
For parents and friends of Bolingbroke Academy Penni Coe is able to secure really good deals by reserving large numbers
of seats in advance being groups deals nearly always on mid week dates. Monies are paid directly to her and seat numbers
are allocated when tickets are paid for. She adds a small amount to the ticket price which will go to Parents Association
fundraising. She has also organised sporting and music events as well as theatres tickets in the past so if you have any ideas
for shows or events (the minimum number usually needs to be 15-20 and usually the bigger the group the cheaper the
price) please send her an email ([email protected]) and she'll see what she can do.

Parents and students are really positive about improvements made with school dinners over the last year. Maria Ackenhoff
has worked hard to establish a positive relationship with the catering team who are open to suggestions and extremely
enthusiastic. Maria can be contacted with any queries [email protected]
