excellent Facilitiesthere are many facilities available to students at grantham college. From purchases of food and drink in our bustling café, nixx, to burning off the calories in the Power sport gym. the Hairdressing and Beauty therapy salon is open to students and the general public, where a full range of treatments is available at reasonable prices. students and the general public can also choose to have a sumptuous meal in the Witham room restaurant on the top floor most lunchtimes and two evenings a week.

IQer- top Marks grantham college has been awarded the highest possible result for the quality of it’s Higher education provision following a recent review by the Quality assurance agency (Qaa). Qaa, similar to ofsted but for university level courses, introduced a new method of inspection called iQer, which is specifically devised to assess how Further education colleges meet their responsibilities for Higher

education and maintain the level of the university type courses.grantham college was successful in all areas which included academic standards, quality of learning and accuracy of public information.

accommodation on siteaccommodation is available on campus in sedgewick hall and sedgewick mews. 67 places are available and all rooms are furnished with most having their own en-suite facilities. Within short distance of the town centre they are based in an ideal location.

small class sizeour small class sizes of between 12 and 15 students mean that you will always get lots of contact time with staff; this also offers a more personal approach to learning in an environment where you matter.

Personal tutors and supportall students who enrol onto a course are allocated a personal tutor. they will monitor and support you with your academic progress and provide help when necessary. there are also a wide range of support services available to you whilst studying at grantham college. these include learning support tailored to your needs, careers advice and guidance, counselling, mental health worker and a nurse on site.

Level: 4/5duration: hnc 1 year/hnd 2 years you need: this is a course which will suit students who have an interest in a wide range of Visual art specialisms and will provide opportunities for learners to focus on the development of higher skills in an art, craft and design context.

Method of assessment assessment is through continuous coursework, such as practical projects, visual and oral presentations and written assignments.

course contentthe Higher national certificate (Hnc) is the first year of the two year diploma (Hnd) course and can be taken as a standalone qualification or as the first year of a two year programme. it comprises a wide range of creative units. the course will introduce you to a broad range of practical skills in both two and three dimensions and develops a critical awareness of the historical, contextual and social issues relevant to contemporary art and design practice. the first year of the course, the Hnc, is made up of a variety of modules including:

Level: 5duration: 2 year full-time /part-time options are availableyou need: to have attained a minimum 120 ucas points from a level 3 programme of study to be accepted onto the programme. You are also required to have a level two or a grade c or above in english and/or maths. You will need to provide references and to attend an interview prior to acceptance.

Method of assessmentassessment will be carried out for each module using a variety of methods including assignments, presentations, research projects, personal journal and other locally devised assessment.

tHe course oF mY liFe

as a young adult, i neither had the support or the motivation to succeed in education. after having spent years travelling and living abroad, i returned to england and found very limited job prospects. i saw the access to Higher education course at grantham college as a first step back into education and as a way to open doors for new opportunities.

the Foundation degree in Families, Parenting and communities presented an alternative route to a ‘traditional’ degree. i was able to enter higher education whilst starting a family and continuing to work. on completion of the course, i progressed onto the final year of the Bsc (Hons) degree in Public and community Health at de montfort university.

returning to education has provided me with the opportunity to face new challenges, and acquire invaluable skills, understanding and confidence. since my graduation in 2008, i have been employed at grantham college as a Personal tutor. i continue to welcome opportunities to further my professional development and have recently completed a Postgraduate certificate in education.

engineeringcase studY laWrence Keeni first came to grantham college to study for a Btec national diploma in operations and maintenance engineering. after completing the course i found that i wanted to continue learning. i decided to stay on at grantham college to enrol on the Higher national certificate in electrical engineering course. i enjoyed my previous course so staying on at college was the best choice for me rather than going to university, not to mention the difference in cost!

i loved the practical side of the course, especially having the opportunity to make circuit boards and build electrical circuits which i then had to test. i was also able to design and develop my own project.

shortly before i completed the course, i applied for a role with Froment power test solutions. after seeing that i was close to gaining my Hnc, they invited me for a further interview and i got the job! i now work as a trainee electrical technician within the company.

WHat is tHe ilm? grantham college offer two management courses through the institute of leadership & management (ilm). the ilm is the uK’s largest management body, combining industry-leading qualifications and specialist member services.

Method of assessmentall assessment takes place in the workplace. assessment methods include observation of the candidate carrying out their role; witness testimony; physical evidence from the workplace; knowledge and understanding.

You will be allocated an assessor who will judge the evidence of your performance, knowledge and understanding against the units of competence in order to determine whether you have demonstrated competence at this level.

course contentthe course is suitable for senior managers who have: operational responsibility for substantial programmes and resources; a broad span of control; who pro-actively identify and implement change and quality improvements; negotiate budgets and contracts; lead high level meetings.

my employer moy Park was looking at external methods for staff development, and came across the ilm management courses at grantham college. this course was chosen as it best suited their needs and it offered a general overview on all areas of day to day management.

one of my favourite parts of the course was being able to speak with managers from different organisations to discuss different management styles; it was highly beneficial as it allowed me an insight into how other people manage. also as the lecturer had first-hand experience of working in industry they were able to relate course units specifically to my role.

completing the course has helped me to progress within my career, as it enabled me to improve my ability to achieve and improve in my then role as department manager; i have since been promoted four times and am now the supply chain manager!

a wide selection of meals is available from the main refectory at very competitive prices. snacks are available from vending machines throughout the college and also from nixx, our shop and cafeteria. nixx has seating for over 100 people and provides a choice of hot and cold snacks, including confectionery, paninis, bagels, salads and jacket potatoes, as well as stationery, cards, personal items and postage stamps. Hot meals are available from 4.30pm tuesday-thursday. students, staff and the general public are also welcome to dine in the college’s Witham room restaurant (open for lunch monday, tuesday, thursday and Friday, and for dinner on tuesday and thursday evenings) which is run by the Hospitality & catering department. located on the top floor of the main Building it offers an outstanding view of grantham! stepping stones nursery is the partner nursery for grantham college. the nursery is a short distance from the college grounds and provides full-time day care for children aged from birth to 11 years old. stepping stones aim is to provide a secure, caring and stimulating environment in small, homely, age specific areas. children are encouraged to progress at their own pace and to fulfil their potential in all areas of development.

in august 2010 the nursery was graded outstanding by oFsted.

nursery opening times are 7:30am to 6:00pm monday to Friday. nursery fees

are charged at £3.85 per hour, although discounts are offered for grantham college students.
