HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL
In May, ninety students took to the stage for the Disney smash hit High School Musical at George Jenkins Theatre. Performing to sell out audiences, students from Years 7 through to 12 impressed with polished vocal, acting and dance skills. Students have been working hard on the production since the start of the year, working after school and at weekends. It was great to see students of all ages take on lead roles onstage and backstage. Brooke Simmonds in Year 12 stage managed the production, whilst students as young as Year 9 had significant lead roles alongside older students.
Students commented on how much they enjoyed the social aspect of production and working as a team.
This year I've been given the opportunity to stage manage the production of high school musical, an experience which I've enjoyed immensely. Through stage managing I've been able to learn a range of new skills and strengthen bonds with the cast and crew. Brooke, Year 12
High School Musical has been one of the most exciting journeys of my life at Balcombe Grammar so far. We were so lucky this year to have had such a dedicated and very talented cast, to support one another throughout this experience, with the ongoing support and love from the teachers and parents/families who supported us every step of the way. The musical was full of fun, incredible costumes, brilliant sets and all the hard work payed off, with 2 sold out shows!! This is definitely a production that i will never forget and it was very special to watch those curtains close for the final time in our “East High” journeys, hand in hand with our Year 7s through to our Year 12s. Leizl, Year 11
High School Musical has been both an exhilarating and demanding experience that I would never give away if given the chance. Working together as a team with many other amazing actors, singers and dancers over the past six years has been incredible, however there is something about High School Musical that brings everyone closer together. Will K, Year 12
Congratulations to all staff and students involved.
SOUTHERN INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS (SIS) AFL
Throughout Term 2 our Year 10 boys have been competing against other SIS schools playing AFL. It would be fair to say the team has experienced the highs and lows of competitive sports. Being well beaten by some larger schools it has been inspiring to witness the resilience of our football team. The boys have always participated with a smile and their endeavour could never be questioned. Last week the team was rewarded for their persistence with a 100 point win over Cornish. Well done to all.
IN THE LIBRARY
One of the key ideas that drives Balcombe library is that engaged readers are socially interactive. Our library has moved away from the thought that it must be silent at all times. Instead we want the students to share the experience of reading, to discuss their discoveries and feel a part of a wider learning community.
